One of the safer enemies to come across in Hyboria, the Tarantula usually hunts things no bigger than small birds, and would not normally attack a human without provocation. They tend to prefer creeping around to hunt for prey, rather than trapping it in webs, and their venom, while painful, is rarely lethal. You would do a lot better to run into one of these than our next monster ...
Not much is documented on the Spider Demon yet, but it looks a lot scarier than the Tarantula. The large stinger on its abdomen obviously spells trouble even without taking into consideration any possible venom, and standing at almost three times the height of the humans around it, a strike from one of its legs would carry immense force. As well as this, being a demon, who knows what other nastiness these foul creatures could have in store?
Shadows congregate at the Border Ranges, where they derive pleasure from ripping people apart while they're still alive. Nice. There's often good reason for you to risk your life to face them however, as they tend to guard valuable treasures. There is a particular hill in the Border Ranges that they now seem to be drawn to, but the reason for that is currently unclear.
Bat Demons are another monster that not a lot has been written about, but they look equal parts horrifying and awesome. Flapping about above their enemies, with large talons on their two-toed feet, if they're not overly dangerous they'll at least be kind of annoying.
Flesh Eaters inhabit the Frost Swamp, and it is in fact the swamp that spawned them. The human presence in this area has thrown the natural balance out of order, and in the swamp's defense, the Flesh Eaters were born. They consist of muscle and slime, with skin as hard as stone, and have an insatiable hunger for human flesh. The Frost Swamp is located in the northern region of Cimmeria, and is home to more horrors than just the Flesh Eaters ...
Another abomination that came about as a result of the tainting of the Frost Swamp, Frostcrawlers look roughly like an eel crossed with a serpent, but with a humanoid torso -- the stuff of nightmares, really. They can thrash at you with their serpentine tail, slash you with their clawed hands, and bite you with their eel-like mouth. You can only hope that if you encounter a Frostcrawler, it's going the other way like the one in this picture.
Yetis are towering beasts with enough strength to wield oversized tree trunks with a single hand -- suffice to say, if you get in the way of their swinging attack, you will feel it.
It would be hard to look much more evil than these guys. Blood Defilers are made purely of -- you guessed it -- blood, and are held together through evil sorcery. The purer the blood used to summon them, the more control the sorcerers have over them. Tainted blood will result in an out of control Blood Defiler that will surely be twice as much fun to deal with.
Traditionally, an incubus will attempt to have sex with its target to spawn more incubi, and this coupling can result in sickness or death, so if you're propositioned by one of these -- it's a trap!
Mummies are the victims of dark sorcerers, often criminals and slaves or those unable to fend for themselves. You can only imagine the torture they went through to end up this way, but little humanity remains in them. They can be found in the Onyx Chambers, a dungeon below the Black Ring Citadel.
Scaleskin lizards are thought to have come about due to some serious pollution in the sewers, and they have been blamed for many disappearances in the city above. They worship primitive gods, and these gods grant the most faithful shamanistic powers.
The Acheronian Warlord, Durkhan Blackblade. A champion of Acheron, he is a ruthless leader and is feared by enemies and allies alike. Even without his massive army backing him, he is one of the most dangerous foes you could come across in Hyboria.
