1 roll of refrigerated biscuits
Vegetable or canola oil
1 large, flat-bottomed skillet
1 Tablespoon butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cocoa powder for chocolate frosting, or food coloring for plain
Sprinkles, coconut, whatever else might tickle your fancy!
Remove the biscuits from the roll and lay them flat on a cookie sheet.
Using either a knife or a bottle cap, cut holes in the center of the doughnuts. Save the holes!
You want 1 inch of oil in the bottom of your skillet. Heat it on medium until it's ready to fry. Remember those doughnut holes? Toss them in the oil and use them to test whether or not your oil is hot enough. This isn't just to make more doughnut bits to eat, I swear. Really.
Carefully place your doughnuts in the oil using tongs -- you don't want the hot oil splashing on you or anything else in the kitchen!
When the doughnuts are golden brown on the bottom, use your tongs and carefully flip them over.
When your doughnuts are brown on both sides, remove them from the oil with your tongs and set them on a paper-towel-lined cookie sheet to drain.
Put your butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract in a bowl. The brown stuff in the picture here is vanilla powder; I use that instead of vanilla extract.
Add milk a little bit at a time until you get the consistency you're looking for. If you want a glaze, make it fairly thin; if you want frosting, make it a little thicker. If you've made the frosting too thin for your liking, just add a little more powdered sugar to thicken it back up.
If you want chocolate frosting, add one heaping tablespoon of cocoa to the finished frosting, plus a shot of chocolate syrup if you want a stronger chocolate flavor.
Beat together the frosting and the cocoa until it's completely blended. If the frosting is too thick, you can add a little more milk.
Or if you'd rather not have the chocolate, you can always add a dab of food coloring to your frosting to brighten it up a bit!
After your doughnuts have cooled, drizzle the frosting over the top. Add sprinkles, coconut, or whatever else your heart desires. Don't eat them all at once!
