Nokia's new 110 and 112 dual-SIM phones are cheap and chatty (video)
Nokia may be serving up polycarbonate slabs of smartphone with one hand, but the other is still dishing out candy bars for the masses. The new 110 and 112 models, announced today, are perfect examples of this. Once again, these phones are dual-SIM, which should appeal to the Asian / Indian markets, and offer money-saving features like crunching websites in the cloud first -- which Nokia claims reduces data consumption by up to 90 percent. As for the rest of the phone, it's all about being social, with direct access to Facebook and Twitter from the home screen, and the eBuddy IM service preloaded. Those 1.8-inch displays might not be ideal for watching movies, but are likely adequate for viewing the shots taken with the VGA camera. These stripped down specifications thankfully equate to a stripped down price, with the 110 landing at around 35€ and the 112 just three euros more when they show up sometime this quarter. Verizon prepping HP Mini 311, Mini 110 for launch
Wait, hold up -- before you sprint down to your Verizon store (sprint... Verizon... never mind) to pick up that catchily-named Gateway LT2016u that just launched, you might want to mull over the next batch of netbooks primed to hit the carrier's outlets in the coming days. Subsidized netbooks still haven't proven themselves as viable products -- at least, so long as they're not subsidized down to $0 -- but Verizon's ready to keep on trying with the launch of a global 3G-equipped HP Mini 311 on October 22. Sickeningly, they want a full $249.99 on contract after $100 mail-in rebate -- but in exchange, you'll be getting ION, Windows 7, 1366 x 768 resolution on a 11.6-inch display, and a 1.6GHz Atom N270. Moving on, the carrier's current Mini 1151 will ride off into the sunset and be replaced by a Windows XP-equipped Mini 110 featuring a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM; it'll launch once 1151 stock is depleted for $199.99 after rebate with a new two-year deal. HP Envy, dv8 Quad, Mini 311, and numerous other Windows 7 machines now available to order
Since today really needs a good heap of news to somewhat balance out yesterday's glut, HP has updated its online store to give it an abundance of new and revised Windows 7 machines, including the Envy series (Beats edition and all), Pavilion dm3 with AMD Neo or Intel CULV chips, Core i7-packing dv6t/ dv7t / dv8t Quad editions, and the not-so-netbook CQ61. We're still not seeing the previously-leaked dm1 ultraportable anywhere, but the Mini 311 and a slightly updated Mini 110 are, with the option to jump from Windows XP to 7 for a cool $50 / $30 respectively. Most everything in the store, desktops and laptops, has been updated to at least include Windows 7 as the standard shipping OS, and while all claim free 2-day shipping, estimated shipping dates begin sometime the week after 7's Oct 22nd launch -- no early chances here, folks. Browse the read links and keep an eye on the shiny red "new" icons (no flashing GIFs, we're afraid) for the entire revised lineup. Update: As a number of you have pointed, the Envy product page is a bit, well, sloppy. Typos and missing commas notwithstanding, it seems to biggest laugh is the cost of customization, i.e. $800 more to downgrade from a 500GB HDD to 320GB or 250GB (same price), or $900 more to downgrade from 6GB or 4GB of DDR3 memory. HP Mini 100 available for online ordering, Vivienne Tam safe and sound
All you crazy kids keepin' an eye on the HP Mini 110 are in for a real treat. The company is now listing the machine as available for ordering on its website, superseding the Mini 1000 (don't worry, fashionistas -- the Vivienne Tam model is still available, at least for the time being). As reported previously, these guys are priced at $279.99 (Mi Edition) or $329.99 (XP Edition), with the 6-cell battery option adding $40 to the price, and an Intel Atom N280 CPU costing an additional $25. HP Mini 110 netbook gets examined on video
We've already gotten a decent look at HP's new Mini 110 courtesy of the usual carefully chosen press shots, but the folks at Tech65.org recently had a chance to get up close with the netbook, and they've now thankfully provided a thorough hands-on video for folks considering it or those simply curious. While there's not exactly a whole lot of surprises, we do get a good look at the new, slightly recessed "anti-glare" display, along with the revised trackpad, the new LCD-intergrated speakers, and the rearranged port and card slots. HP unveils Mini 1101, Mini 110 XP / Mi editions with optional HD video accelerator
HP's got more additions to its Mini netbook lineup coming your way with the 1101 and 110 XP / Mi. All three models sport a 10.1-inch widescreen LED, autosync software for easier connectivity to your primary PC, and the standard 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 / 1.66GHz N280 processor options with GMA 950 graphics, VGA output, 3 or 6 cell batteries, and 802.11b/g. The Mini 110 XP edition takes the trend even further with -- and we're sure you're surprised here -- 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD or 32GB SSD, as well as optional WWAN and a Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator, which HP claims will let you watch 1080p video smoothly -- yeah, we'll believe it when we see it. Those who go with the company's Linux-based pet Mi can bump up to 250GB HDD and 2GB memory. As for the Mini 1101, it looks like it's basically the business-centric 110 with XP and Vista as your OS choices and no apparent video enhancer. As for pricing and availability, the Mini 1101 is coming at ya on June 1st with a base price of $329, while Mini 110 will follow shortly after in black swirl on June 10th, and white swirl / pink chic on July 8th. Those will start at $279 with Mi and $329 if you want Windows XP instead.
HP clarifies iPaq situation: 210 delayed, 110 shipping now
Looks like HP finally noticed that people were a little confused about the shipping status of its newest iPaqs, so the company dispatched Worldwide Public Relations Manager Mike Hockey to clear things up: according to Mike, the iPaq 110 should be in stores soon, but "a supply issue discovered in the development of the recently announced HP iPAQ 200 products will cause the availability to be later than we had hoped in some regions of the world." So much for that optimistic ship date HP had listed, which appears to be a glitch with the web ordering system that always promises an "estimated ship date" of two days in the future. Also, it never comes to your Little League games. Stupid promises.
HP's iPAQ 110 and 210 delayed?
If you were waiting patiently for HP's iPAQ 110 and 210 models that were due for release earlier this month, you may already know that you're out of luck. jkOnTheRun pieced together a few reader reports and discovered that HP's official site for the 210 now features the text "Coming in 2008!" That's a shame, since the last we heard these two PDAs should have been shipping by the 8th of this month. Anyone else had their order canceled? We know that you're all on pins and needles right now waiting to find out when you can get your hands on those new HP PDAs, the iPAQ 110 and 210, and how much it will cost you when you do. Well, you're in luck, because the company has just added shipping dates and pricing to its website, thus making your Fall plans a little bit easier. If you'll recall, both WiFi equipped, Windows Mobile 6 devices feature color TFT touchscreens, Marvell PXA310 624 Mhz processors, and Bluetooth 2.0. Sony's new NR-series laptops get a price, release date
Those shiny new VAIO NRs we told you about a couple of weeks ago have gotten the US nod and a price tag, and we thought we'd share the good news. The model, which Sony is referring to as "entry-level," touts a 15.4-inch, XBRITE-ECO display, a Core 2 Duo CPU, and all the regular bells and whistles, like 802.11a/b/g, DVD-RW, and an ExpressCard slot. The new laptop comes in a "fabric-like" casing, is available in three "stylish" colors (wenge, silk, and granite), and will be selling next month for the surprisingly low price (at least for Sony) of $750.
HP unleashes iPAQ series 100 and 200 PDAs
As we've mentioned recently, HP has been readying a handful (no pun intended) of new iPAQ handhelds. Luckily, today we get to move from rumor to fact, as the company has officially announced the next wave of its mobile line. Along with new 3G phones and a GPS navigator, HP is launching the 100 Series "Classic" and 200 Series "Enterprise" edition (pictured) PDAs. Both models are based around Windows Mobile 6 Classic, and sport 64MB of RAM, 256MB of ROM, a Marvell PXA310 624MHz CPU, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, and color touchscreens. There are some notable differences between the two models, however, with the 100 sporting a 3.5-inch, 240 x 320, RGB screen, Mini-USB, and SDIO card slot, while the 200 sports a 4-inch, 480 x 640, 260k screen, 24-pin and Mini-USB connectors, plus SDIO and CF card slots. No word yet on pricing and availability, but you'll know when we do.
JVC shows off 110-inch RPTV - uses questionable demo material
Ok, let's get the TV details out of the way. JVC, some sort of rear-projection, 110-inches, 5,000:1 contrast ratio, ¥6,000,000 ($50,331 USD) and should hit the Japanese market by December. Cool. Now, check out their demo material. We look at many pictures each day and let us tell, we really doubt they are using a HD source on that 110-inch screen. Even worse, it looks like a video file you download of one of those pirate sites we have been hearing about lately -- not that we know any so don't ask. Funny thing though, check out the subtitles - we always thought Americans get Japanese subtitles on downloaded videos and Japanese get English subtitles but apparently not. [Via BornRich]
