  • Rumor: New Marvel vs. Capcom game may be coming 'sooner than you think'

Though we imagine there are those who will find this rumor too inconclusive and uninformative, anyone who has ever experienced the visceral thrill of watching Mega Man beat the mutant gene out of X-Men's resident pansy, Scott Summers, should appreciate even the slightest glimmer of hope for an encore Cyclops massacre. When asked at San Diego Comic Con 08 if a new Marvel vs. Capcom game was a distinct possibility, Marvel Studios' President of Production, Kevin Feige, slyly answered, "Yes. And maybe sooner than you think."With two days of cosplaying goodness remaining at Comic Con, could Feige have been hinting at a big reveal still to come during the event? Perhaps, though considering Marvel's main panel took place on Thursday, it's somewhat unlikely. If a new Marvel vs. Capcom title is approaching as swiftly as Feige suggests, though, we're sure to hear something more concrete from one of the two companies involved sometime soon.

Most of you probably skipped over Draglade, since the title flew under the radar in a slew of great games this holiday season. We think it's a fun game, though, and shouldn't be ignored -- especially now that it only costs $14.99 at Amazon. The quirky 2D fighter by Atlus is worth a look at that price. We're sure Cheapy D and the folks at CAG are fond of it as well, since the sale was put on the front page of the site.Of course, if you'd rather have a pure rhythm game for cheap (as opposed to the fighter/platformer/RPG/rhythm hybrid that is Draglade), Atlus has you covered there, too.[Via CAG]

If you've heard of Draglade, one word that may have come to mind is, "What?" On the surface, you might expect another anime-like fighter akin to Bleach: The Blade of Fate. Then, upon further reading, you might see bizarre words like "Grapping," "Glade," and "G-con," with claims that the game is a rhythm-based fighter. Whether such strange details send you running to the hills or make you want to learn more, it's important to the video game industry that unique titles like Draglade don't slip through the cracks.Draglade, in its essence, is a 2D fighter that introduces you to the world of Grapping. Combining elements of martial arts and music, Grapping is a new sport that seems to have taken the game's world by storm. The characters you can choose for the story mode all have the same ultimate goal: to become a Major Grapper. Each character has a different motive for wanting to do so, but each must go through a series of tournament-style exams to earn the coveted title. The weapons used in the game are called Glades, which can emit sounds when they strike (this is where the musical element comes in).

  • Capcom unveiling new 2D fighter soon

Two dimensional fighting games are pretty rare these days, but rewind time a decade or so and you'll find Capcom's name everywhere. This is mainly because of their Street Fighter franchise. Now, a new teaser site has emerged and it beckons us to wonder: what new 2D fighter is Capcom going to announce soon? While rumors abound that it could be the next Street Fighter, we wouldn't want to jump on that wagon too quickly. There's nothing on the teaser site that remotely reminds us of the classic fighter. If we read Japanese, perhaps we could provide some more proof. But we can't. Our guess? A new IP. Yep, we're taking the road less traveled and hypothesizing Capcom is making a completely new cast of characters for a completely new 2D fighting game. Doubtful, but it'd be exciting![via CVG]

Wildcat, creators of Mortal Kombat Zero, sat down to talk with a GP32 fansite about their upcoming 2D fighter Chosun Musa. While we don't usually report on games that are coming to PC (it was canned for GP32), the interview did mention PSP, and thus piqued my interest. When asked if there was a possibility of Chosun Musa coming to PSP, the creators answered: "If we have money and enough free hands, I may be able to convert something. If I still like the PSP when I publish this game ..."Let's hope Wildcat continues to like the PSP then. There aren't many competent 2D fighters on our portable. [Via insert credit]

  • SFII on Xbox Live: what's taking so long?

While attention has largely been drawn to the barrage of new titles announced for Xbox Live during E3, those gamers who prefer flaming punches to plummeting blocks are likely to have wondered as to the whereabouts of one of Capcom's most revered franchises. Way back in January, Microsoft revealed that Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting was destined to hit Xbox Live Arcade in March. An accompanying Capcom press release was more vague and instead claimed that the title was due for release in "early 2006." It seems neither one was correct.A June 10th release was most recently rumored, but that has since been crushed by the Capcom PR machine and replaced with a friendly notice that reads: We'll tell you about it "sometime in the near future." It's hard not to be amused by this situation, especially given the deadly efficiency at which Capcom has released Street Fighter II games in the past few years. You'd think it would be second nature to append Hyper Fighting, a game that's already been made, to a list that includes Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition, Street Fighter II The World Warrior, Street Fighter II The New Challengers, Street Fighter II Anniversary Edition and Street Fighter II Ultra Supreme College 2K6 For The Win Alpha Championship: Fourth Beating. This isn't the first time the series has gone online either, so the explanation that poor net code is holding them back doesn't seem entirely effective. Perhaps the thing that's more frustrating than waiting so long for a classic game to be emulated on a $400 console (dubious d-pad and all) is the lack of information regarding a release date. Or worse yet, what about the price?
