ZVOX intros 430, 440 soundbars and 525, 575 soundbases
The limitations of typical crappy built-in TV speakers just can't be overstated, and with the current "thin is the new black" trend in TVs, things aren't likely to get better. ZVOX has introduced two soundbars and two soundbases to its lineup of all-in-one speaker systems that are pretty much guaranteed to make you wonder why you ever put up with your TV's craptastic sound. The 430 ($450) and 440 ($550) soundbars each come in at only 5-inches deep and 5.5-inches high, but pack a trio of 3.25-inch cones along with a 4-inch woofer for the bass. Flanking the speaker/TV stand Z-Base 550 we liked so much are the slightly smaller, $400 Z-Base 525 and the 35-Hertz-reaching, $800 IncrediBase 575 (pictured). Yes, that kind of money could get you a whole HTIB setup -- along with the wires and boxes that shoppers considering an all-in-one are looking to avoid. Hit the links for details. Last-minute bug holding up LG Trax launch?
Anyone worried that AT&T might actually manage to get the LG CU575 "Trax" out the door today can probably put those fears to rest now; it seems a software issue has cropped up on test units that is preventing DRM-enabled music from playing under certain circumstances. Wasn't a similar issue rumored to have held up the Nokia N75 for a while? Sheesh. Anyhoo, no word yet on when this thing might get fixed and relaunched, but we'll have our ear to the ground.[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
LG CU575 for AT&T drops by FCC
We saw this hot little number all up in the CTIA's business a few weeks back, and sho' nuff, it's the FCC's turn to check it out (wow, how often is it that we see a phone before the FCC does?). A worthy upgrade to the CU500? Yeah, we'd say so; details are still disappointingly slim, but we can assume HSDPA, Video Share, and comprehensive media support (on account of the touch strip external control) are all in the cards. Now let us relish in the moment of our pre-FCC scoopage while you go check out the documents, will ya?
LG's 575 for AT&T
We were just casually wandering the expanses of LG's slick booth here at CTIA (stay tuned for more goodies from it) when we happened across this gem: a glass-encased flip simply known as "LG575." What caught our eye, though, was the telltale stylized AT&T globe on the OK button, so yeah, we pretty much know where it's headed. Judging from its appearance, we'd say its a midrange 3G piece in the same vein as the Samsung SYNC, but with an exterior that might be real metal (we couldn't be sure) and a clever-looking touch strip below the external display, presumably for music control. Judging from LG's recent naming convention for Cingular handsets, we wouldn't be terribly surprised to see this one turn into the "CU575," but who knows? LG's 575 for AT&T
