15 Minutes of Fame is our look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – from the renowned to the relatively anonymous, the remarkable to the player next door. Tip us off to players you'd like to hear more about.A couple of months ago, WoW Insider reported on the immortalization of WarcraftPets.com founder/owner Breanni with an NPC in Wrath of the Lich King. In the expansion, Breanni of US Scarlet Crusade-A appears as a NPC selling pet supplies in Dalaran. Curious about the growing public enthusiasm ("Obsession"? We think Breanni might agree ...) with non-combat pets, we contacted Breanni for more perspectives into the vanity pet craze -- as well as what it's like to run into yourself in the game as an NPC. 15 Minutes of Fame: Vanity pets – who knew? How many vanity pets are out there now, and how can players get them?Breanni: Vanity pets (also known as companions, small pets, non-combat pets and mini-pets) are those adorable little critters that follow your character around the game world, catching the eye and imagination of others. Currently, there are 98 vanity pets, and new ones are added to the game nearly every major content patch. However, not all of these pets are available in the United States - a few are region-specific.There are six ways to obtain vanity pets. Vendors, drops and quests offer players some of the most familiar pets. Additionally, there are a handful of pets crafted by engineers. Some of the rarest pets are obtained through real-world promotions, such as loot cards from the WoW trading card game and trade show giveaways. Finally, a new source has emerged for collecting certain pets: they can be earned through various feats, such as battleground victories or collecting a certain number of pets with a single character.

  • Preparing for 2.3: Post-patch item farming, part 2

Yesterday, we took a look at some of the new items in patch 2.3 that will be in the crosshairs of farmers across the servers. Today we'll finish off that list. First, blacksmiths will want to keep their eyes out for the new craftable weapon chain being added to the game. While the source of the Adamantite Weapon Chain is currently unknown, it is speculated to be an Outland-wide world drop. If this is true, then the plans will have a low chance to drop from any creature in Outland. Hopefully this will prove not to be the case and it will be discovered on a specific creature's loot table, since the only other weapon chain is a world drop thus and notoriously difficult to obtain.

As patch 2.3 draws ever nearer, the question once again arises; when it finally hits, where will you be, and what will you be doing? First and foremost, I think I will spend some quality time a) celebrating its arrival while b) lamenting server downtime.Personally, I'm going to try to be diligent about monitoring updates for my addons (which is what we all know Mike won't be doing). It's my new-patch-resolution. Unfortunately, there likely will not be fixes for my every woe immediately. While bemoaning my misfortune, I may pop into a battleground and check out what life is going to be like sans deadzone. Heck, I may as well try to get some dailies credit for it!I'll also have to show my hobbies some lurv. At some point, you might catch me meandering through Azshara with my sights set on a shiny Azure Whelpling, as soon as I feel like hunkering down in farming mode. I'll definitely have to go check out what The Rokk has cooking, and of course, /cry and /whine that my addons are on vacation. What will you be doing when 2.3 finally arrives? Will you be testing class changes, playing around with your professions, popping into PvP, or starting up "nerf huntarz sine here plzkthnxbye" and "NO U" threads on the forums? Or will you bearly be all business (okay, horrible pun. /slap self), heading out to Zul'Aman?

If you have been keeping up with the latest patch news (and who hasn't?), then I'm sure you've noticed that despite some grievances, everyone has something that they are greatly anticipating. If you happen to be a fan of pets of the non-combat variety, then 2.3 is turning out to be the patch for you!Hot on the heels of the latest seasonal pets, the elusive Wolpertinger and the Sinister Squashling, those who obtain exalted status with Sporeggar will be able to purchase the Tiny Spore Bat for the reasonable fee of 30 glowcaps. While Elizabeth did mention the little tike briefly in a recent update on the patch notes, I wanted to give him his own spotlight. As if these two weren't enough, there's also Mojo, the adorable blue frog who is not afraid to show you some love. If you collected the Tiny Crimson Whelpling, Dark Whelpling, and Tiny Emerald Whelpling, then you'll love the new Azure Whelpling! Based on the original whelpling models, this new pet has a bluer outlook on life. If you want to snag one for yourself, you'll have to hit up Azshara after the patch drops. Park yourself in amongst a group of level 51+ elite Blue Dragonspawns, and prepare to farm for the long haul, as there is no current data regarding this little guy's drop rate. Whether you enjoy non-combat pets or not, one thing is for sure; Breanni is absolutely right. Azshara might actually get busy! In much the same way that Mr. Pinchy has helped to revitalize fishing, maybe this whelpling will add a little pizazz to the zone - or at least kick its tourism scene up a notch. Will you be spotted in Azshara post-patch farming 'til you drop? If so, will he be your new pal, another notch in your belt, or a nice addition to your AH-for-mount fund?
