If you think the the absence of Brett Ratner is the only thing holding Farmville back from becoming a truly exciting cross-platform brand, then you're probably Brett Ratner. The brash bad boy director of Rush Hour fame is adapting Zynga's game for television. Ratner will serve as executive producer on the half-hour animated series, aided by Canadian television production firm Six Eleven Media."FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless," Ratner said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal. "I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience." Zynga is no stranger to cross-promotion, having already struck up a deal with Hasbro to produce a line of board games based on its properties last year, one of which was – you guessed it – Farmville. Zynga also just reported a $209.4 million loss for 2012, subsequently shutting down three of its games, including CityVille 2.

Members of the Kratos Fan Club, you may now officially stop holding your breath: Brett Ratner is not directing the God of War movie. Please pass the word on to members without internet access. We wouldn't want anyone turning purple, now would we? According to Production Weekly (via Worst Previews), Ratner, who confirmed he was pursuing a green light on the picture in September 2008, has put God of War aside to instead make Trump Heist. The film is set to star Chris Tucker and Eddie Murphy, and tells the story of employees robbing the residents of the Trump Towers.Trump Heist sounds a bit more appropriate for the man behind X-Men: The Last Stand. That movie was hilarious.[Via Kotaku]

Having recently confirmed his involvement with God of War's assuredly violent journey to the big (albeit considerably less interactive) screen, film director Brett Ratner is all set to combine his particular track record with the games-to-movie stigma and create the internet's greatest bitchfest. Not everyone's predicting a Greek tragedy, however, with God of War's creator, David Jaffe, earnestly informing us (via video, embedded after the break) that while the adaptation "could be shit," he's nevertheless satisfied with the pedigree of the director, as well as the producer (from Batman Begins!) and the writer, who penned the screenplay for Road to Perdition.Mind you, he also says he liked X-Men 3, so perhaps he's just pulling our leg on the whole thing. That Jaffe is a rascal, we tell you!

Speaking to UGO, Hollywood director Brett Ratner confirmed that the God of War movie is in fact a project that he's currently working on. The only thing is, he's still waiting for the "green light" and the go signal to start destroying filming the Greek epic that is the story of Kratos. So what's keeping Ratner from going into full production? That little problem with a certain lawsuit over God of War's "copyright infringement" is probably the main cause. What do you think, dear readers? Are you happy that Ratner will be working on the God of War movie? [Via 1UP]

  • Ratner: 'I would love to do a Guitar Hero movie'

What's more upsetting: that rumored God of War director Brett Ratner thinks the Guitar Hero brand is good movie material or that someone actually pays this guy to consult on their brands? In an interview with the movie mangler, MTV managed to get Ratner to say (ostensibly with a straight face), "I would love to do a Guitar Hero movie, if Activision would ever let me. I'm trying to convince them, but why would you have a movie screw up such a huge franchise? Not that I would make a bad movie." Oh no, what could be bad about a movie based on a video game that tasks players with hitting colored dots in time with rock music? Wait, don't answer that. Joystiq spies report that Ratner is also considering adaptations of video game classics Pong and Tetris. So there's that. Then there's this: Brett Ratner was paid real money to "come up with a name" for the latest Guitar Hero. Ratner says, "I did, and it became Guitar Hero: World Tour." In other words, the geniuses at Activision couldn't figure out a name on their own, so who better than the guy who directed Rush Hour? In other news, we're apparently in the wrong line of work.

We always think it's so bizarre when fanboys and girls start filling up our tips box with vitriol about the latest unpopular decision made by Sega, Square, Microsoft or practically anyone involved in the gaming industry. "Where do they get all that hate?" we wonder aloud, before going to donate more hugs down at the clinic. They would be a complete mystery to us were it not for Brett Ratner, who, according to a passing mention in a recent press release from MGM, has been tapped to direct the God of War film.See, we hate Brett Ratner. Well, no, we don't hate the person. We're sure he's a perfectly nice man. But we hate everything he's ever put on film from Money Talks to X3 aka Brett Ratner's First-Person Theatrical Abortion. ... You know what? Forget what we said, we do hate Brett Ratner as a person. And if he directs God of War, it'll be awful, because all of his movies are awful and we don't know why he keeps being allowed to make them. The end.

Video game movie adaptations haven't been all too successful, and it doesn't look like that trend will change once Brett Ratner joins the ring. The director of films, such as X-Men III and the Rush Hour series, is looking to go into the ever-growing genre of games movies. Currently, Ratner is producing a commercial for the Guitar Hero series. He is also directing the first non-Hannah Montana music video for Miley Cyrus. A man of many tastes, to be sure.A quick blurb at the end of a recent Advertising Age article also suggests that his next target may be Sony's esteemed franchise. According to the article, "[Ratner] also mentioned that he might be working on a movie adaptation of the video game God of War." While the God of War franchise would make for an excellent film if in the right hands, we're still weary about the quality of games films. We'll see if anything comes to fruition.

You may have noticed Guitar Hero popping up in some unexpected places, like last week's American Idol finale or in the new Mariah Carey video "Touch My Body." What may come as a surprise is who you have to thank for the product placement: None other than Brett Ratner, responsible for the epic Rush Hour trilogy and for murdering the X-Men franchise. Ratner's new branding company has tasked itself with melding popular culture and marketing.Ratner's gaming connections won't end with plastic guitars though: The director says he'll "be doing movies that come from videogames," specifically citing his access to the Activision brain trust. We've already begun hoping for Call of Duty while fully expecting Soldier of Fortune: Payback.[Via Eurogamer]
