Two cool in-game events we've heard about recently: First up, our friend Gutrot, the naked Troll Warrior, is finally hitting 80, and he's throwing another party over on EU Aerie Peak to celebrate. He had another party about two years ago at this time, and it went pretty well, so expect this one to be fun, too: he'll have some drinking and merriment (Brewfest will be going on, so that will be fun), lots of naked dueling, we're sure, and probably an Alliance capital raid as well. That all starts on EU Aerie Peak a week from Saturday, September 26, at 9:30pm UK time. If you're on the EU servers, roll a Troll and go say hi. If you're more of the Gnomish persuasion, there's a party for you, too: Slice and Dice is throwing a Gnomestock party this Saturday, the 19th, and it sounds like a good time, too. There'll be Gnaked Gnome Racing, two mini-games going in Ironforge, a zonewide game of hide and seek, and since Saturday is Pirates' Day and the sponsoring guild is called Bucklers of Swash, there'll probably be some piratin' going on as well. That's this Saturday, 9/19, at 7pm Eastern (which is also 6pm server) on the US realm of Mug'thol. As usual, if you go to either event, please do take pictures and send them along -- always fun to see big player-run events like these.

  • 15 Minutes of Fame: Gweryc on WoW's nonconformity backlash

15 Minutes of Fame is our look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – both the renowned and the relatively anonymous. Know an interesting player you'd like to see profiled? E-mail us at 15minutesoffame AT wowinsider DOT com. We knew when we sat down a few weeks ago to interview Noor the pacifist that the whole concept of a WoW character who didn't kill anything would start the flames rolling. The idea definitely lit some bonfires around the interwebz: incredulous readers Dugg it, StumbledUpon it ... it even showed up on Fark. But the real heat was in the reader comments, as readers at WoW Insider and across the 'net flamed, lambasted, reasoned, cajoled, ranted and otherwise worried the topic to bits like a pack of ravenous worgs. Seeking some perspective in the aftermath, we turned to Gweryc the melee Hunter. We suspected he might offer a shoulder to cry on about being misunderstood in the pursuit of eccentric, concept-driven gaming. Instead, we got an inspired dissection of current thinking on who plays MMORPGs and why -- and what playing a purposely gimped character has to do with it. Join us after the break for a conversation with Gweryc on metagaming, gaming achievement ... and of course, being a Hunter who hits stuff.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playable_web_games/Warcraft_Player_Trying_To_Level_Without_Killing_Anyone'; 15 Minutes of Fame is our look at Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – both the renowned and the relatively anonymous. Know an interesting player you'd like to see profiled? Send your tips to 15minutesoffame@wow.com. Back in November 2007, columnist John Himes took a look at a special breed of player who levels from 1 to 70 in a decidedly unconventional manner: hunters who only melee, a naked (well, except for his loincloth) warrior – and Noor the pacifist, who levels without intentionally killing anything. Now, this isn't the first time we've heard of players who've given this idea a whirl, but Noor, a gnome rogue on Maiev, and his Horde counterpart, Reinisch the undead priest, seem to have the gumption and persistence to make it to the top of the XP tree. We checked on Noor and Reinisch's progress this month and found them plugging along merrily through battlegrounds, quests ... and yes, levels. Intrigued, we contacted the player behind the toons to find out what's behind this novel way of playing World of Warcraft. Read more about the attraction of playing a pacifist character, how to go about getting XP without killing anything – and of course, whether or not Noor thinks he can actually make it to 70 ... all after the break.

  • Self-imposed limitations on leveling

There is a special breed of player who's not content to level from 1 to 70 in the ordinary manner. Instead, they choose to place hindrances on themselves to create a more challenging experience. Gutrot of the European Aerie Peak realm is one example. He finally attained level 70 a few weeks ago after months of questing and killing creatures naked, with no weapons or visible armor aside from his trusty loincloth. His feat has made him a minor Wow celebrity and there was a huge party when he finally hit the level cap. Other players have placed different limitations on themselves, seemingly inspired by Gutrot. For instance, Gweryc and Kakita are both melee-only hunters while Noor is a pacifist, trying to reach the level cap without killing anything.I've always been intrigued by this sort of idea, and have even made a character or two myself that had such limitations placed upon them. Recently, during the long dark night between patches, I got bored with my mindless and aimless farming and decided to create a new alt. I decided that this character would be a Draenei warrior, but that he would only fight unarmed, with a staff or with a throwing weapon. I also decided that he could only wear cloth or leather items. I suppose my idea was based somewhat on a sketchy notion of some kind of fighting monk.

Perhaps you've heard of Gutrot? If not, now's as good a time as any to get to know him. He's a Troll Warrior playing on Aerie Peak (EU). But he's not just any Troll -- Gutrot spent his journey through Azeroth and Outland without armor or weapons, equipping himself only with a loincloth. This weekend, Gutrot made it to level 70 and decided to celebrate with, what else, a naked Troll party! I wasn't there, but at least I can enjoy the fun vicariously with this video.Previously on Moviewatch...

Gutrot, who has earned some acclaim for leveling an entirely naked Troll Warrior (no armor, no weapons, no nothing) has almost finished his quest, and he's throwing a party on his server, EU Aerie Peak, so everyone can watch. He's going to hit level 70 on Saturday night at Sen'jin Beach just outside the Orc and Troll starter area (not sure how he's going to level up there, but I guess he's got plans), and he's inviting everyone on the EU realms to come over, roll a naked troll of their own, and celebrate with him. Sounds like a lot of fun-- I can't make it, as I'm in the US, but it definitely seems like a good time to hang out as a bunch of naked trolls, not to mention that making it all the way to 70 naked and unarmed is quite an achievement.Things are set to kick off at 9:30 pm UK time-- if you head over, take lots of pictures, and send us the galleries. A bunch of naked trolls is something I've got to see. Thanks, Centipede!
