If you're looking to spend your long weekend in a quiet, relaxing way, you could do worse than to check out NightSky, the meditative rolling-ball platformer by Knytt creator Nifflas. And now's a good day for it, because Steam has reduced the price to five bucks through 1PM tomorrow. If you're in the mood for less tranquility and more Tom Clancity, the ongoing Ubisoft sale continues today, with 66% discounts on pretty much every Tom Clancy game ever, including various Splinter Cells, Ghost Recons, Rainbow Sixes, and HAWX ... es.

It seems Sam Fisher has hacked into Xbox Live, reducing prices on a large selection of Tom Clancy-related DLC for Gold members. What's that? You say Sam Fisher isn't a real person? This is just the Deal of the Week? Well fine, Mr. Smarty Pants. Find the deals after the break.

Get ready to play around with boys one more time! Ubisoft just announced HAWX 2, presumably one of the two new Tom Clancy games mentioned by an Ubisoft producer late last month. HAWX 2, in development at Ubisoft Bucharest, gives players the chance to "become elite aerial soldiers in control of the world's most technologically advanced aircraft." This is, oddly enough, the second aerial combat game to be announced today, though the other one is slightly different in tone. It's currently scheduled for a fall release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii. Ubisoft released one really exciting piece of artwork, which you can examine in more detail in our gallery. %Gallery-92365%

  • Two more Tom Clancy games in the works at Ubisoft

In a recent interview with Dutch gaming news site Control Online (that is to say, the site itself is Dutch -- it doesn't exclusively cover the booming Dutch video game industry), Ubisoft's Tom Clancy brand manager Michel Verheijdt explained "at this moment I'm working on two Tom Clancy games which have just gone in development." He remained tight lipped about the identities of the two franchises, warning that if he exposes any more info, he'll "have to send Sam Fisher after you." Fortunately, Joystiq was able to get the scoop on these two games, and you'll never believe what they are. For the first time in ... hold on a second. Someone's at the door. Hello? Who are you, and -- hey, why are you grabbing our neck? This doesn't seem very safe, begoggled, gruff-voiced stranger. [Via Eurogamer]

Hey, did you know Ubisoft is still releasing DLC for HAWX? We know, we're as surprised as you are! And apparently this latest pack, "Supremacy," is even pricier than usual at $9.99. But don't worry, it's a greatest hits package, with all of the planes released for the game so far lumped into one big chunk. After the break, we've got a collection of letters, numbers and acronyms that apparently represent some of the planes you'll find if you download "Supremacy." For the rest of us? We've got pictures.

Let's just say it before you do ... old! Over a month ago, we spotted signs of future DLC for Tom Clancy's HAWX and were proven correct when Ubisoft revealed the US Eagles pack at the beginning of May. Although we knew aircraft from Russia was next on the list, we've waited patiently. Today, we wait no more.Ubisoft has finally confirmed a new DLC pack for Tom Clancy's HAWX en route to the Xbox 360 and PS3. The Russian Falcons pack clocks in at 400 / $4.99, adds five new flying, killing machine variations and is available now. If you'll excuse us, we need to translate this Kenny Loggins album into Russian.%Gallery-50757%

Ubisoft has revealed new DLC for Tom Clancy's HAWX is on the way, but some might call the announcement old news. When Ubisoft sent us images of its first DLC pack -- titled European Assault -- last month, it also attached two additional folders of aircraft images; one labeled US Eagles and the other marked Russian Falcons. At the time, deductive reasoning told us the two folders were hints at future DLC; today our theories were proven to be correct. The US Eagles DLC for Tom Clancy's HAWX is set to hit the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store tomorrow. The pack will set ace pilots back 400 / $4.99 and includes five aircraft variations, from the sleek and stealthy A-12 Avenger to the battle hardened F-4 Phantom II (pictured). Now, we eagerly await the release details for the Russian Falcons DLC.%Gallery-50758%

Ubisoft announced its financial results (PDF link) for fiscal 2008 (which ended on March 31, 2009), and for the most part news (or Newz, if you prefer) is good. Full-year sales for 2008 grew to €1.058 billion, up 14% over last year's €928 million total. The company explained the strong results of its last quarter with "a continued very strong showing" for its Wii lineup, including Raving Rabbids TV Party, Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip, and My Fitness Coach. One million units each of Shaun White (not just limited to the Wii version), Tom Clancy's HAWX and the Petz and Imagine games were shipped to retailers in Q4.Ubisoft's sales target for the 2009 fiscal year is €1.1 billion. It expects the first quarter sales of 2009 to be weaker than 2008's, due to the relative lack of major releases (Q1 2008 included Haze and Assassin's Creed on PC), with growth to occur in the second half of the year.Source (PDF document)

A folder marked Russian Falcons included images of five yet-to-be-announced aircraft and a folder titled US Eagles revealed another five, including the sleek A-12 Avenger. HAWX fans should keep their discs handy, as it looks like this one is getting a few more upgrades in the near future.%Gallery-50756%%Gallery-50757%%Gallery-50758%

Ubisoft's HAWX is one of the few PS3 games that take advantage of one of the systems' most under-utilized features: YouTube video uploads. You can record footage from the game and upload it directly to YouTube -- and now, with a new contest from Ubisoft, you have more reason to give this feature a try.To enter the contest, players must simply upload a video, up to two minutes in length, to the video sharing service. You can only use the in-game upload feature; you cannot edit the video on a PC, for example. The title of the video must also follow this format: "HAWX UPLOAD CONTEST [PSN ID]." There's no limit to how many videos can be submitted, but prizes are limited to one per person. The top three most viewed videos until the end of March will each receive a Saitek Aviator Flight Stick. For full details on the contest, click here.

There was a rumor floating around today about NXE shipping on Xbox 360 game discs (via MCV) and, as you can imagine, we were surprised. So we put in a question to Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, who confirmed that Microsoft has begun including NXE with Xbox 360 games. As to whether Tom Clancy's HAWX and 2K Sports' MLB2K9 will be the first games to feature the NXE update -- as the rumor suggested -- Major Nelson could not confirm. But, from here on out, expect the update to be included on all retail game discs.

  • PS3's H.A.W.X. supports YouTube video uploads

Thanks to the H.A.W.X. development blog, we just learned that the Playstation 3 version of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. will support YouTube video uploads. It's a feature that'll really showcase the game's satellite-generated landscapes.Embedded above is a video demo of the new uploading system and, from our brief analysis, the entire process looks relatively easy. Simply record a short jet-fighter clip -- featuring some amazing dogfighting, a few barrel rolls and lots of "pew-pew-pew" action -- and then log in and upload to YouTube in game. No computer required! Now, if only we could find a reason and a way to integrate H.A.W.X. into our Twitter feed ...

  • $100 million GeoEye satellite used to map Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.

    by

    02.27.2009

GeoEye's $100 million dollar commercial-use satellite imagery system will serve as the backdrop for Ubisoft's upcoming air-combat title, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. The Washington D.C.-based company -- that supplies data for Google Earth, among others -- allowed Ubisoft access to satellites 423 miles high to photograph real-world locations for the game's multiple missions. How powerful can a 423 mile high satellite be? The GeoEye-1 satellite that launched in September has the capacity to see objects on the ground that are just 16 inches long.VP of communications at GeoEye, Mark Brender, told Venture Beat that using such a sophisticated technology to map H.A.W.X. will help in "immersing the player in the experience" rather than using "cartoon maps." So, a South Park, Colorado, mission cannot be confirmed at this time.

Didn't preorder Killzone 2? Your time to try the game out has finally come. Unless you've already grabbed it from the European store, that is. Other than that, there's plenty of downloadable content, a new episode of Pulse and a Killzone 2 video guide. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Today's update is slightly disappointing, but at least there's a playable demo of HAWX. There's also the normal DLC for your rhythm games but, sadly, no sign of any LittleBigPlanet DLC. PSP owners have two full games to purchase and SCEE might finally have got their pricing right. Street Fighter IV players who might want a new look for their favorite character also have the opportunity of buying new costumes. Though it may lack the mind-melting insanity of their first H.A.W.X. effort and definitely lacks the paper-thinly-veiled homoeroticism, there's still a simple pleasure in watching the Mega64 team recreate every toddler's favorite pastime: Pretending to be an airplane.Of course, few toddlers are grown men, let alone grown men doing it while wearing military uniforms in public. But when you see the joy they bring ... well, it's hard to judge them too harshly.[Thanks, Willzay]

Even if you have no idea what H.A.W.X is (it's about Tom Clancy flying airplanes, right?), Mega64's promotional video for the game is a delight. As is often the case for most Mega64 videos, we don't want to say too much about the content and risk ruining your special memory of seeing it for the first time. We will say that the group has managed to make a video that is manlier than even the Tom Clanciest game.Chances are, one question will be dominating your thoughts after you watch this: where can I get that song? Good news! Anticipating the riotous clamor for the background music, the Mega64 boys have made an MP3 available at their site.

As the late, great, Kenny Loggins once sang, "Ride into the Danger Zone!" What? Kenny Loggins isn't dead? Awkward. Moving on... On February 11, a demo for Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. will hit the Xbox Live Marketplace for Live Gold members. The demo, which tracks experience and includes three unlockable fighters to test drive fly, allow up to four Mavericks to play cooperatively. It sports two missions for the upcoming air-combat game: Operation - Off Certification, one of the game's training missions that showcases maneuvers and tactics used throughout the adventure, and Operation - Glass Hammer, another training mission that teaches pilots how to blow stuff up in the air and on land. Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. lands in stores this March.

  • Rumor: Ubisoft's HAWX flies over to Wii

    by

    02.05.2009

It's been rumored for a while now, but Tom Clancy's HAWX still appears to be circling the Wii. See, there's this listing for the game over at Ubisoft's official site, complete with a March 2009 release date. But, before you start jumping up and down with joy and spill coffee all over your computer, know that there are a couple things making us uneasy about all of this.First of all, there isn't much on the listing -- box art, a release window, some key features, and a link to the game's official site. Secondly, those features listed look identical to the PS3/360 versions of the game. Drop-in and drop-out gameplay doesn't really sound like a Wii game, seeing as how we've not really heard of any game incorporating that feature (unless you want to count Animal Crossing: City Folk ). Finally, there's no mention of the Wiimote. Usually, when a publisher is putting a game on the Wii (especially in the case of multiplatform games), it tends to boast about the Wiimote's power and how it affects the game. Nothing like that here. But, you know, if it turns out to be true, then consider us pumped.
