The Humble Store has kicked off a week-long sale offering steep price drops for Saints Row 4, Metro Last Light, Dead Island Riptide, and other digital PC releases from publisher Deep Silver. Starting today, buyers can pick up choice cuts from Deep Silver's catalog for a minimum of 50 percent off. New deals and additional discounts will roll out every 24 hours as games like Risen 2: Dark Waters Gold Edition and Metro 2033 rotate into the sale's spotlight category. Humble Bundle donates 10 percent of all store proceeds to charity, and all featured games include Steam keys. Deep Silver Week will continue through March 3. [Image: Humble Bundle]

  • Drunken Robot Pornography takes (it all) off on February 19

Drunken Robot Pornography, the high-flying robot shooter from Dejobaan Games, launches in full on February 19 via Steam and the Humble Store. DRP has been sitting pretty on Steam Early Access since the day that service launched in March, and next week it's finally ready for deployment. In the game, players don jetpacks to battle giant robots called Titans – Dejobaan started working on DRP two years ago, ages before that other game about titans showed up – and attempt to stop the metal beasts from destroying Boston with their fancy lasers, rockets, bullets and claws. It's a first-person shooter in a bullet hell (not Boston – that's just the game style). DRP will retail for $15, but it may come with a Steam discount on launch day. That's all outlined in Dejobaan's open marketing document, a Google Doc that displays the studio's launch plans, marketing strategies and hopes for the game's release, including the repeated phrase, "NOTE TO SELVES: None of this matters if we don't make a great game." This open marketing plan joins Dejobaan's public design document for Drop that Beat like an Ugly Baby as an example of transparent development in the indie world. Dejobaan will stream DRP in a Twitch marathon on February 20 from 10AM ET to 10PM ET, featuring a lineup of fellow streamers. And giant, drunken robots, of course. [Image: Dejobaan Games]

The Humble Store's Winter Sale wrapped up (with a bow on top) today, but there's one more surprise: It's not over. The Humble Store's 72-hour encore sale begins now, starring the best-selling games from the Winter Sale. Games on sale include Gone Home for 66 percent off, Monaco at an 80 percent discount, plus Dust: An Elysian Tail, Shadow Warrior and Guacamelee Gold Edition for 75 percent off. For the next 24 hours, Europa Universalis 4 is 75 percent off – after that day is up, it'll be half off for the remainder of the sale. The encore ends Friday, January 3 at 2PM ET. Most games in the Humble Store are PC and Mac compatible, with a strong showing from Linux and DRM-free games. Plus, most come with Steam keys. Looks like 2014 is off to a well-priced start.

  • Gone Home, Europa Universalis 4, more discounted in Humble Store Winter Sale

The Humble Store has kicked off its Winter Sale with a number of big discounts, most notably indie hit Gone Home, which will be reduced to a mere $5. Other notable sales include Europa Universalis 4 for $20, Shadow Warrior for $10 and Legend of Grimrock for $3.75. A full list of the current deals can be found on the Winter Sale website. So what's the catch? These deals are only available for a limited time. These discounts in particular are only valid for the next eight hours, after which time they'll be replaced by new, different discounts. There's no telling what might pop up next - an earlier version of the sale only reduced Gone Home's price to $10, instead of its current $5. As with all Humble Store sales, 10 percent of all proceeds go toward charity. It's up to you which charity you'd like your money to benefit, though between the American Red Cross, Child's Play, the Electronic Freedom Frontier, the World Land Trust and Charity: Water, wherever your cash goes it will be put to good use helping the less fortunate.

The Humble Store Thanksgiving sale runs from November 27 to December 3, and it's stuffed with savings on 18 games, including Kentucky Route Zero ($12.50), Rogue Legacy ($7.50), Gone Home ($10), Frozen Synapse ($5), Game Dev Tycoon ($7), Godus ($15), Vessel ($3.75), Worms Reloaded ($6.50) and The Bridge ($3). The Humble Store is the latest installment in the Humble franchise, normally offering daily deals on sweet indie games. It's like a Steam sale, but every day – most games in the Humble Store come with Steam keys anyway. Games previously featured in the Humble Store are still available on the sale page, in a list underneath the current deals.

Have you bought Guild Wars 2 yet? If not, there's no time like the present thanks to The Humble Store. The title is currently on sale for $29.99, and the best part is that 10 percent of the proceeds go to charity. Better hurry up, though. The site's ticker says the current deals expire in just under 18 hours. [Thanks burnhaus!]

In case periodic Humble Bundle releases and weekly sales aren't enough to sate your appetite for wildly cheap games that directly benefit charity, the people behind the Bundle have now launch the Humble Store. The video above serves as a mute demonstration of how the Humble Store works, but anyone familiar with Steam or Good Old Games should feel right at home. The virtual retailer offers a number of games (largely independent titles) at sizable discounts, only unlike those aforementioned digital distribution services, the money earned by the Humble Store will be partially earmarked for charity: 75 percent of your purchase goes to the game's creators, 15 percent goes toward administrative fees, and the remaining 10 percent goes to charity. The game selection on the Humble Store is a bit scant at the moment, but it's a quality over quantity situation. You'll find games available on Windows, Linux and Mac, and standout releases such as Don't Starve, Gunpoint and Rogue Legacy - none of which are currently priced higher than $7.50. If you prefer the old way of doing things, you're in luck: Despite the Humble Store's debut, the Humble Bundle will continue to appear on a regular basis. Joining the Humble Bundle mailing list will now inform you both about upcoming Bundles as well as new deals on the Humble Store, which are said to change on a daily basis.

Die Gute Fabrik's indie platformer Where is my Heart? will arrive on PC and Mac in September through Steam and the Humble Store, and then on Linux at a later date. The game launched as a PlayStation Mini in November 2011 for PS3, PSP and Vita. Where is my Heart? has players guiding a family of forest spirits that live in a tree whose roots hold the world together. The game's environment is also broken into square segments that shuffle around, adding a puzzling element to the family's journey. The PC/Mac version will include a new menu system and levels. Die Gute Fabrik hasn't listed a price for Where is my Heart? yet. It will be playable in the meantime at PAX Prime in Seattle this weekend, at booth number 866 located in the Indie Megabooth (along with over 80 other games).

  • Sir, You Are Being Hunted lines up on Steam, Humble Store on Aug. 19

Sir, You Are Being Hunted hits Steam and the Humble Store in an alpha version on August 19. For someone being hunted, it seems odd to announce an intended location on a specific date, but we're happy to have the information. And so are the hunters, we bet. The alpha version includes base-level hunter AI, dogs, sentry balloons and a mid-level robot guard, The Squire, all as enemies to out-maneuver with guns, bombs, traps and cunning. After playing through the game in this alpha version, another archipelago generates for a brand new, replayable experience. Developer Big Robot calls its release process "live development," with more content added over time and instantly available to those who own the alpha version. Pre-orders are live now on the Humble Store for $20, and all Kickstarter backers should get the game instantly on August 19. The game is in development for PC, Mac and Linux.

  • Papers, Please legally enters Steam, Humble, GOG on August 8

Papers, Please – a Dystopian Document Thriller – launches on August 8 on Steam, GOG and the Humble Store for $10, on both PC and Mac. Pre-orders are live right now. The game has players take on the exciting role of an immigration inspector in the early 1980s at the border of the fictional communist state Arstotzka, which has just ended a six-year war with its neighbor, Kolechia. Players must feel out discrepancies in documents from people asking to cross, some of whom are terrorists, spies and smugglers, and some of whom are kind old grannies wanting to see their families. Papers, Please made its way through Steam Greenlight in May as part of the system's first "mini round" of games. The gameplay offers a twist on classic espionage mechanics, creator Lucas Pope told us in June: "I was inspired originally by my trips through airport immigration in the last few years .... Instead of playing the cool spy protagonist that slips through a checkpoint unsuspected, you can be the hard-ass inspector that casts their skeptical eye at every grandmother trodding through. That sort of role reversal sounded fun to me and I thought others might like it, too." Papers, Please has 20 different endings in Story mode, based on the decisions players make each day as immigration inspector, though a "unique save system" allows for easy replays of any days. One ending unlocks Endless mode, which offers three game types and four rule sets built around an endless stream of travelers, complete with online leaderboards on Steam.

  • Gunpoint aims for a June 3 launch day, sales abound

Before reading the release date for Gunpoint, the 2D stealth puzzle game from Suspicious Developments, take your finger off the trigger. Gunpoint launches on June 3 – that's next Monday – and it's available for pre-order now via Steam and Humble Store, each for 10 percent off or $9. The Special and Exclusive editions are also up for pre-order. The Special Edition is on sale for $15 and includes a DRM-free key for the game, a Steam code, the soundtrack and developer commentary. The Exclusive Edition is $30 via Humble and $27 on Steam, and it includes all of the aforementioned goodies, along with a 40-minute making-of video, a pack of prototype levels, four exclusive songs and access to future "secret betas" of Suspicious Developments games. The standard and Special editions are on sale via Humble for two weeks, while the steam sales are for one week. Keep in mind, all Humble purchases come with a Steam key and the developer gets a larger piece of the pie through that channel. Decide where you want to pull the trigger on Gunpoint – but seriously, keep your finger off that trigger while you're still on the fence. And probably after. And stop playing with guns while you're on a fence.

  • Fotonica lands a $1 sale for six days

Fotonica comes from Italian development house Santa Ragione, which makes sense considering how positively vogue the game is. It's a one-button, first-person runner in duotone with a smooth, blippy soundtrack – and right now it's all just $1. Fotonica is 80 percent off direct from Santa Ragione's site (using that handy Humble Store widget), now and for six more days. Fotonica supports PC, Mac and Linux, and it's available through Desura, Indievania, OnLive and the Mac App Store, though that $1 deal is via Santa Ragione only. The developers would like to see Fotonica on Steam and are making a leap with Greenlight – if it gets voted in, Santa Ragione will create new levels, modes and music for all Fotonica players.

  • Steam is king in service wars, Humble Store a sleeping giant, indies say

Twenty-one randomly selected indie developers walk into a digital room and ponder the question, "Which online distribution system has been the most effective for your games?" If this were the set-up to a joke, the punchline would probably be, "Facebook." But for many indie developers, the question of which platform to publish their games on is a very serious one, with potentially dire consequences. Pared down, platform success is all about accessibility, upload and support, and in terms of those factors, there's a clear, unsurprising favorite: Steam. But maybe not for long. I asked 21 indie developers this question, and while the majority mentioned Steam in the same casual manner that begets an unchallenged king, there were consistent whispers of other platforms doing things well, perhaps even better than Steam, from a backend perspective. One of these platforms was the Humble Store, which received the second-highest number of solid votes and a handful of positive shout-outs. "I owe pretty much my entire survival the last few years to iOS, the Humble Store, and to a lesser extent Android and Steam," Adam Saltsman, the creator of Canabalt, said. But iOS ran into some bad censorship issues, Android had discoverability problems and Steam was "obviously" too closed, he said. If Saltsman could choose just one of those platforms to release his next game on, it would be, "Humble Store," hands-down.

One year after its high-profile launch on XBLA, Fez is available on PC via Steam, the Humble Store and GOG today for $10. For $5 more on Steam, grab the game and its super-cool original soundtrack by Disasterpeace, or grab the soundtrack by itself for $7. Steam: Giving you all the options to spend your money. By April 13, Fez sold 200,000 copies on XBLA and we thought it was positively joyful. Creator Phil Fish suggests hopeful PC players purchase Fez via the Humble Store, since he gets 95 percent of that revenue, compared to 70 percent from Steam and GOG. If Fish insulted your grandmother and you really want to get back at him, go ahead and buy Fez through Steam or GOG and have a wonderful time playing it. That'll show him.
