The Worlds in Motion summit kicked off this morning with an introduction from Leigh Alexander, the organizer of the event. Leigh is the blogger-in-residence over at CMP's Worlds in Motion, a site we've linked to many times here from Massively. In her work there, she does what she can to highlight the work of pioneers in the Virtual World industry. This morning, she asked the basic question: What does gaming have to do with Virtual Worlds? We normally think of VWs as brand experiences, collaborative business environments, or opportunities for social interaction like Second Life. So what do these virtual spaces, the leadup to the 'Metaverse', have to do with gaming?%Gallery-16369%

  • Fire Emblem opening video is cinematic candy

We may have neglected Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn's release because of some other big releases this month, but we felt we had to show you the game's opening video because it's epic. Although Radiant Dawn came out earlier this month, the opening video seems to have only just hit the internet. If we didn't already own the game, we could see something like this making us rush out to buy it. If you're still on the fence about the new Fire Emblem game, though, never fear, Nintendo Wii Fanboy is here. We'll be reviewing this game in the near future, so stay tuned.

  • Trauma Center Tuesday, brought to you on Wednesday (cause we're rebels like that)

Yesterday marked the last Trauma Center Tuesday before New Blood's release next week, and that means Atlus had more surgical goodies for us. The most notable treat this week was the video of the game's introduction, which we posted above for your viewing pleasure. Aren't we just the best?Normally we wouldn't go all ga-ga over a game's opening (okay, well sometimes we do), but this is one of the best we've seen. The art, the effects, the music, and everything about this introduction makes us weak in the knees. It was like watching the opening to a TV show ... er, if TV show openings were actually good and made us want to cut people open.Atlus, you sly dogs, now you have us looking deeper into our wallets during this video game glut, hoping that we can stretch them enough to pick up your game next week. Does anyone else feel our pain?On a side note, you should check out the ridiculous poem Atlus sent us that's posted after the break. Atlus, stick to making video games and not poetry, okay?

  • Hybrid Theory: Three parts awesome, one part me

Each week, Jason Lotito contributes Hybrid Theory, a new column on hybrid classes in World of Warcraft.I've never written an article about myself. I've never thought about what I should say if I was introducing. Despite being confident in my ideas (some call this arrogance), I'm actually quite humble about my accomplishments. I didn't want to start my column with an introduction. I wanted to show you exactly what it is you were going to get rather than just talk about what I intended you would get. Actions speak louder than words, though in this case, my words were my actions. Frankly, my first article was a smashing success. But now it's time for me to introduce myself to you. To give you an understanding of whom I am, where I come from, and my experiences as a player.

Hi there, TUAW readers; I'm thrilled to be the newest blogger in this well-appointed stable. Over the past 15 years I've been a systems integrator, IT manager, writer, editor and online producer and through it all I never quite escaped the unofficial title of "the Mac guy" -- so clearly I wasn't trying very hard. While this is my second go-round at an AOL subsidiary (I worked on the original Entertainment Weekly launch on the service), it's my first chance to write about my love of all things Mac, and I can't wait to get rolling. I'm looking forward to lots of wonderful feedback!

Hey TUAW, I'm Alex, the newest blogger around these parts. The first Mac I ever handled was one of the later Performa models. It was a beige beast of a computer attached to an ABI Prism DNA Sequencer, and I remember thinking how odd it was that there was only one mouse button. This was at a time in my life when I still thought I could be a scientist. That dream faded, but Macs stayed in my life. Oh, there was a time when I strayed, when I spent a few years wandering in the Wild West of Linux and impossible (for me) binary management, but then OS X came along and I couldn't stay away any longer. These days I spend most of my days in balmy London writing about videogames at Kikizo, IGN, and AOL. Macs and OS X make the job that little more enjoyable. My nomadic lifestyle demands portability, which is probably why I'll be using wonderful 12" PowerBooks until I can't find another, or Apple decides to answer my, and many others', prayers and gives us a new (or even smaller) version. That's me taken care of. Let's get to it.
