PlatinumGames co-founder and vice president Hideki Kamiya is leaving the company next month. Kamiya acted as lead director for the Bayonetta series, among many other popular game franchises.
‘Bayonetta 3’ turns witchy weirdness into an art form
Bayonetta 3 is full of classic Bayonetta madness, all of it amped up by one degree. The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been, the enemies are absolutely massive, Bayonetta’s magic is incredibly powerful, her outfits are outstanding, and the fights don’t stop coming.
Square Enix will show off 'Babylon's Fall' from PlatinumGames during E3

PlatinumGames' first original project looks like Ant-Man meets Godzilla
PlatinumGames is about to unleash its full freakish flamboyance on the world. Led by veteran director Hideki Kamiya, PlatinumGames has created stand-out titles on the behalf of major publishers for the past 14 years, churning out hits like Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Astral Chain and Nier: Automata. But now, following a cash infusion from Chinese tech giant Tencent, PlatinumGames is building its first original project, codenamed Project GG. "Unlike any of the games we've made so far, it's going to be a 100 percent PlatinumGames title," Kamiya said in a blog post. "For everything from its setting and characters, to its game design and story, to how it's promoted -- PlatinumGames is in full control."
'The Wonderful 101' remaster smashes Kickstarter goal in hours
If anything demonstrates that gamers love a bit of cult nostalgia, it's the eye-watering success of Kickstarter campaigns pledging to bring former hits back to life. And that's absolutely the case with former Wii U title The Wonderful 101, the remastering of which obliterated its Kickstarter goal in less than an hour.
'Bayonetta' developer is the latest to throw itself at Tencent's feet
Chinese gaming giant Tencent has its fingers in the pie of yet another well-known developer. PlatinumGames chief Kenichi Sato has confirmed that his company took a "capital investment" from Tencent as part of a "basis for partnership." Sato didn't say how large the investment was, but he promised that this would have "no effect" on Platinum's independence or structure.
'Babylon's Fall' trailer reveals a painterly hack-and-slash from PlatinumGames
After first teasing the game at E3 2018, today's State of Play livestream finally offered us a glimpse at Babylon's Fall, the latest collaboration between Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix and Bayonetta developer PlatinumGames.
‘Bayonetta’ & ‘Vanquish’ bundle comes to PS4 and Xbox One in February
Last week, multiple retailers leaked the existence of a Bayonetta and Vanquish bundle for PS4 and Xbox One. Today, we have confirmation that the compilation is on its way and that the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X owners will be able to play the games in 4K at 60 FPS. Collectors will be happy to learn that the physical version will come packed in an embossed SteelBook case.
‘Babylon’s Fall’ is the next Square Enix PlatinumGames collaboration

Xbox's lack of compelling games won't be fixed next year
Microsoft's 2017 started six months early. At E3 2016, Xbox chief Phil Spencer closed out the company's keynote by teasing the "most powerful console ever." At this year's show, he finally revealed the Xbox One X, and in November, the hardware was at retail. In the time it takes to earn a bachelor's degree, Microsoft addressed one of the internet's loudest complaints about the Xbox One: that it wasn't powerful enough compared to the PlayStation 4.
'Bayonetta 3' is a Nintendo Switch exclusive
Get ready for some much-needed hack and slash action on the Switch. Platinum Games Bayonetta series is getting a third instalment exclusively for Nintendo's console. Not only that, but the first two Bayonetta games are also heading to the gaming machine, marking the first time they'll be playable on the go.
Cult action game 'Vanquish' powerslides its way onto PCs
A month after SEGA brought Bayonetta to Steam, the publisher has now seen fit to throw PC owners another Platinum Games-shaped bone. Coming to the platform on May 25th, $20 will net gamers a souped-up version of third person slide-em-up -- Vanquish. The long-awaited port will support unlocked framerates and resolutions, allowing sadistic PC players to make this game look slightly shinier, and feel even faster. As well as support for 4K (and higher) resolutions, Vanquish on PC also offers keyboard and mouse control, along with all the inbuilt Steam functionality you'd expect.
How 'NieR' was brought back from the dead
Taro Yoko, director of NieR: Automata, leans forward in his chair. "The stories I write really aren't very good at all," he says, through a translator. "They're a big pile of shit. So I wouldn't have great expectations for the game if I were you." He's joking, I think.

Then they'll talk about Volkswagen's massive settlement and pending indictments. Plus they'll try to recap Dieselgate without messing up the timeline.
The cancellation of 'Scalebound' is a huge blow for PlatinumGames
Scalebound is no more. Platinum's Xbox exclusive has been canceled by Microsoft, killing the dream of a Devil May Cry–meets–Last Guardian mashup. What a shame. I saw the game behind closed doors on two separate occasions and was left positively smitten with the concept. It centered on Drew, an arrogant, headphone-loving twenty-something lost in a world filled with dragons. With Thuban, an eventual friend and fire-breathing combat partner, he would scour floating islands and decimate mythical enemies large and small. Throughout the game you would control them both, slashing as Drew and throwing out commands to Thuban.
Microsoft cancels Xbox One exclusive 'Scalebound'
If you've been anticipating Platinum Games' Scalebound ever since it was unveiled in 2014, you're about to get some crushing news. In the wake of leaks from Kotaku and Eurogamer, Microsoft Studios has confirmed that the dragon action role-playing game has been cancelled. The company hasn't elaborated on why (you can read its statement below), but Eurogamer's sources describe it as the result of a rough development process that grew particularly tortuous in 2016.
Tricking out your dragon in 'Scalebound'
Scalebound is one of my most anticipated Xbox One games. It's a classic Platinum title, mixing over-the-top, combo-heavy combat with a gargantuan dragon that's willing to help you out in a pinch. Throw in a strange, luscious new world and some enormous, fantastical enemies, and you have a game that oozes both style and substance. Last year at Gamescom, Platinum founder Hideki Kamiya teased that players would be able to customize their dragons over the course of the campaign. Now, he's explained exactly how that will work. And, oh boy, am I excited.
Dragon romp 'Scalebound' offers huge co-op boss battles
Dragons? Check. A spiky-haired hero with attitude rivalling Dante from Devil May Cry? Check. Okay, so we must be talking about Scalebound. The action-RPG was originally slated to come out this fall, however in January developer PlatinumGames announced it had been pushed back to 2017. Today, Microsoft showed off the game's little-talked-about co-op mode, which allows you and a few friends to fight side by side. The trailer starts with the hero discovering an enormous crab-like creature, before watching his companions materialize with their dragons. The group then attacks with some ranged weaponry before switching to their winged companions, finally finishing up with some stylish melee combos. It's pretty epic.
'TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan' kicks some shell on May 24th
If you're a fan of Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo and Michelangelo -- the heroic green Turtles that is, not the artists -- we've got some good news for you. The upcoming Mutants in Manhattan game from Bayonetta developer Platinum has a release date now and a fresh trailer showing off some of the gang's high-octane battles. The action brawler will be available digitally and physically on May 24th -- just before TMNT 2 hits theaters -- and promises a stylised blend of cel-shaded graphics and lightning fast combat.
