Google is expected to release Android 12 sometime this year, which means Developer Previews and betas will most likely be available for download soon. You may not have to wait that long to see what the upcoming mobile has in store for you, though: XDA Developers has posted what could be our first look at Android 12. The publication has come across an “alleged early draft” of a Google document summarizing changes for the OS, though, and it comes with a few screenshots, including one that shows an opaque notification panel with entries that have pronounced rounded corners.

The latest software update for the Nintendo Switch has arrived, and it comes with new ways to upload your screenshots to a phone or a computer. You can now wirelessly transfer both photos and videos of your game to phones or tablets by using the smart device’s camera to scan the QR code your Switch will generate every time you use the feature. The new option lives in the “Manage Screenshots and Videos” section under “Data Management” in Settings.

Square Enix has confirmed that work is underway on the second chapter of its Final Fantasy VII Remake, and also unveiled new screenshots and detailed what we can expect from the first chapter. It seems like "remake" is a bit of a misnomer, as it looks like a highly expanded version of the original. "Though [the new characters] aren't main characters, their numbers ended up growing considerably in the process of creating a rich depiction of Midgar," said director Tetsuya Nomura.

While becoming more and more popular, podcasts are far less share-friendly than videos because of their long-form and audio-only nature. An Adelaide-based company aims to change that with a new iOS app called Bullet. It lets you create 30 second video snippets, complete with captions, suitable for sharing on social media. That way, you can post enticing bits of a podcast that are watchable without sound to share with your friends -- a win for consumers and producers alike.

Instagram is borrowing another feature from Snapchat, although this is one you'll definitely appreciate if you value your privacy. The social site has confirmed to TechCrunch that it's testing a screenshot warning system for Stories. If you're in, you'll get a notice that Story creators can see the screenshots you take. You won't get an alert with each screenshot when you're the creator, but you will see that people took screenshots when looking at your viewer list.

The Witness drops you on a beautiful island full of mind-melting puzzles that subtly feed into one another. It's a relaxing, picturesque locale that you can now photograph with NVIDIA's Ansel in-game camera. Unlike a regular screenshot tool, which simply captures what you're looking at, this software allows you to reposition the camera almost anywhere. That freedom can produce some incredibly artistic shots -- to get an idea of what's possible, just look at these screenshots taken with a similar system inside Uncharted 4 (courtesy of Engadget's own Tim Seppala).

Gaze into the darkness long enough and a reluctant British vampire will gaze back at you. Sure, that's not quite what Nietzsche said, but it's the angle Dontnod is taking with its latest game, Vampyr. Set in London in 1918, Vampyr stars Jonathan Reid, a military doctor who specialized in blood research during World War I. He's also a vampire, though he doesn't enjoy killing; he dedicated his life to healing, after all. The Spanish Flu is ravaging Europe and as Reid stalks London's foggy streets, he must balance his bloodlust with his still-intact moral compass.

  • Google Now on Tap update helps you take Android screenshots

To take a screenshot on an Android phone so far, you've typically had to press an awkward button combo -- or, worse, use a palm gesture. It's getting much easier, though. Google is pushing a Google search app update for Android that lets Marshmallow users take screenshots using Now on Tap. All you do is invoke Now on Tap and hit a share button to send it to your app of choice. This isn't a straightforward replacement for the hardware command, since it doesn't save images right away (you need to choose a destination first) and has a long delay. However, it's both easier to use and gets rid of the usual notifications mess. If you've ever wanted to show off your home screen or a new app without jumping through hoops, you'll want to upgrade as soon as you can.

  • Microsoft Snip annotates screenshots with voice notes and scribbles

Screenshots come in handy when offering feedback and comments on any number of things. To lend a hand with that process, Microsoft has a new app for Windows that's up to the task. The software is called Snip, and in addition to capturing parts of your screen to share among your friends and colleagues, the app also lets you mark up the snaps. With both voice notes and stylus scribbles, Snip gives you two options for getting that point across. When you're done, you can paste the image into another app (they're copied to the clipboard by default), distribute it as a web link or save it to your device as a video (MP4). When you lend your voice to the captures, the app automatically turns them into videos. And yes, they can be embedded on the web should the need arise. If you're looking to give it a go, the app is available in beta form now from the source link below.

Xbox One users who also own a Win 10 phone have long been able to share their gaming screenshots using Microsoft's Smartglass app. Now that ability is coming to both Android and iOS devices. Users will be able to view, share, and save their screenshots. There are some restrictions however. For Android users, the new features will only be available, at least initially, on the Android Xbox One SmartGlass Beta. And for Apple fans, only those users who have already signed up for the iOS Xbox One SmartGlass Beta program through the Apple Store. [Image Credit: commorancy/Flickr]

The long-teased Xbox One March update is finally here, and it's bringing some features that you may have missed if you're familiar with the PlayStation 4. You can now take screenshots of whatever you're doing, whether it's to brag about your score (through messages or Twitter), set a custom background or save it to OneDrive for posterity. It should also be easier to both find and recognize friends. There's now a suggested friends list, and you can share your real name if buddies wouldn't know who you are based on your gamertag alone. Between these and more Xbox-specific updates (such as tile transparency controls and spam reporting), you'll probably want to upgrade your Xbox as soon as you can -- if just so you can rub your victories in your rivals' faces.

I've been thinking a lot about what sort of screenshot to run today, the last day of WoW Insider and thus of Around Azeroth. Should I dig through the archives and pick out one of the few screenshots that got nixed by the editors for being too filthy? Should I take a screenshot of one of my characters doing something noteworthy? In the end, I decided to pretend it was just another day, and run one final screenshot from prolific submitter Gimmlette of Spectacular Death on Llane (US-A). I'm sure we'll be having enough sentimental feelings today without my contribution. It's been a wonderful eight years, folks. And if you're in the Crown tonight, have a drink on me. "So, you spend a day saving Draenor," Gimmlette writes. "It's your town hall. You can leave your muddy boots wherever you like and put your weapons on the table. It's nice that they keep the fire roaring. I also appreciate a good book or two or three and a big mug of stout waiting for me. Someone will be around with a bowl of hot soup and some bread, or maybe a Feast of the Waters and they won't care that I don't share anything with them. As I gaze across my table, as only a ruling landlord can, I see -- wait, what is that looking back at me? Maybe it's just the label, but there's a face on that bottle. I've seen enough weird stuff in this world that I shouldn't be surprised, but if there's anything a dwarf doesn't want, it's her drink staring back at her. Besides, I don't drink wine. That's a night elf thing." Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. We strongly prefer full-sized pictures with no UI or names showing. Include "Azeroth" in the subject line to ensure your submission dodges email spam filters; if you'd like to be credited, also include your name, guild and realm.

  • WildStar launches the Protogames Initiative

WildStar players have fought off the machinations of the Entity, the depravities of their enemy faction, and the vicious wildlife of Nexus. Yet they've never had to face the centerpiece of the newest patch, the Protostar Corporation. Admittedly, taking part in the all-new Protogames isn't quite the same as taking on an ancient evil, but the two new dungeons added with this patch are both meant to test player abilities, with a low-level run through Protogames Academy conveying gameplay concepts while the Ultimate Protogames provide an assortment of new challenges. Not that there aren't plenty of other things for players to experience as well. The patch also contains new housing options, allowing you to edit the terrain of your home, and the character chop shop to let you re-edit facial details and the like. Players can also take on a brand-new Shiphand mission or run the Veteran difficulties of existing Shiphand missions, earning valuable Renown to take to the new Renown vendor. There's plenty to be done with the latest patch, so get in there and enjoy the games.

"As you probably already know, the Queuevians made the guild 'of The Queue' on Nesingwary/Vek'nilash/Nazgrel to keep the memory and community of WoW Insider alive," writes submitter Fussypants. "Saturday we decided to do a guild screenshot on the steps of Stormwind Keep. My favorite shot was this one (and yes, we are saluting you!) On behalf of the entire 'of The Queue' guild, I want to thank you, WoW Insider, for all you have done over 10 years of utter awesomeness! You guys have been the body and soul of the Warcraft community and the home for countless readers and commenters. We thank all the writers, past and present, for the fantabulous (and numerous) words you have written, and we wish you guys the very, very best in all future endeavors! And who knows, WoW Insider may live again! Thank you, WoW Insider, for being the best news site and home for the Warcraft community!" (And, uh, once I get over the sadness of all this, you might see a gnome warrior named Carrefour hanging around that guild. Pay her no mind. She is, after all, only a gnome. And I've always wanted to give the Alliance a try ...) Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. • Patch 6.1: Twitter integration live on the PTR

The functionality for posting on Twitter within World of Warcraft is now up and running on the PTR servers. For those that have been wondering, this is a completely optional feature -- if you don't have Twitter, or don't care for Twitter at all, you don't have to use the service. It's just a fun side perk that was thrown in for World of Warcraft -- one that is curiously, strangely addicting. Using it is fairly simple, all you need is a Twitter account and you're good to go. In the Interface/Social menu, there is an option to begin using the Twitter access. It's not a default feature, so you have to checkmark the box in order to get started. Once you've done that, a button in the UI will open a window that allows you to log in to your Twitter account and authorize World of Warcraft as an application -- it's the same screen that you'll see if you try and log into our comment system using your Twitter account. Click allow access, and you'll be logged in and ready to go! To post to Twitter, type /share into the chat window, and it'll bring up the Twitter interface. Once you've created your tweet, you can submit it and it will post to your Twitter feed in a minute or two.

"Wandering around Stormwind during the wee hours of the weekend mornings means you run into the most ... ah ... interesting people," writes submitter Arugadh of The Brotherhood of Iron on Wyrmrest Accord (US-A). "Or trees, in this case. Self-immolating druids, actually, protesting the non-existent AH markets due to the over-abundance of materials. Or maybe they were just drunk and dancing and not noticing they were on fire. You never can tell with druids." Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com.
