This week sees the first wave of Game Boy Advance games make their way onto the Wii U Virtual Console, starting with Metroid: Fusion, Advance Wars, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. If that doesn't satiate your retro hunger, there's still the likes of Golden Sun and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 to come later this month - check out April's full list of GBA re-releases here. On the more fresh-faced front, the Wii U port of 3DS and Vita 2.5D platformer Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is out now in North America, complete with enhanced visuals and an improved map system. Sorry Europe, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks longer. Things then take a turn for the surreal with Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. The free download pits you against wheeler dealer Rusty Slugger as you haggle over the genuine, real-life eShop prices of baseball minigames - when Nintendo goes weird, it goes properly weird. Finally, sales news for plumbers masquerading as doctors: If you own or buy the recent re-release of Dr. Mario on the Wii U Virtual Console, you can get $5 off Dr. Luigi if you grab it before 9AM PT/midday ET on April 10. The latest assets for Super Monkey Ball 3D focus on two simian-centric mini-games: Racing, and ... boxing? Monkey boxing? Wow. We're all about the ethical treatment of animals -- especially adorable ones with higher brain functions -- but who do we talk to about making that a real thing?

Did you hear? It's got a built-in pedometer! The 3DS measures your steps as you walk -- right there in your pocket! Even better: You can pull the thing out whenever and snap all kinds of pics -- the thing's got three cameras! And get this: It also pipes out music, browses the internet and even plays games. True, you've already got a pile of old DS games (and now defunct DS devices) that you could be playing on your new pedometer, but more than 30 three-DEE titles are expected to be released during the 3DS "launch window" (which begins March 27 and promptly closes on June 7 with the start of E3). We've listed 24 of the apparent launch-window releases after the break (though Nintendo's being coy about exact dates), including Nintendo's own Nintendogs + cats and Pilotwings Resort, plus a hearty helping of third-party support; with notable newcomers, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (previously unannounced outside of Japan) and Crush 3D, a possible port of the 2007 PSP platforming puzzler from Sega. Don't look at the date ambiguity in dismay -- see it as an opportunity! Beginning in late March, you can walk to and from GameStop in anticipation of a new batch of games each Tuesday for ten whole weeks, and the 3DS will count your steps -- each and every one of them! And just imagine how many Street Passes you're going to rack up?

Super Monkey Ball 3D won't arrive in time for the 3DS launch in Japan on February 26, but it will only miss that Monkey Target narrowly. Sega announced today that the three-dimensional ape tumbler will be released in Japan on March 3. You can see a few new screens, including the GonGon portrait above, on Famitsu. Also on Famitsu are new screenshots of Tobidasu! Puzzle Bobble 3D, which feature some really nice 2D art, and a few new screens of Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. We've posted the box art after the break, so you can get a nice look at the crazy backwards design.

Playing Super Monkey Ball in 3D might sound like an intriguing concept to those who have seen the 3DS in action. Unfortunately, without a 3DS in your hands, a Super Monkey Ball 3D trailer is just ... more Monkey Ball. That's not a bad thing necessarily, it's just, you know, less 3D.

Sega outlined part of its plans for Nintendo's new handheld during last night's press conference. During the next fiscal year (which runs until March 31, 2012), Sega plans to release six titles for the 3DS, only two of which have been detailed: Super Monkey Ball and ... something Sonic-flavored. While the identity of the latter is still relatively up in the air, the spherical simian platformer has already gotten a bit of screen time. Sega Europe revealed a few key features of Super Monkey Ball 3D (working title), such as offering the player a choice between using the 3DS' touch pad or tilt controls to maneuver their monkey. The game will also have four-player wireless modes, such as Monkey Race and Monkey Fight, which we thought had been outlawed in most civilized territories of the world.
