We knew it was in the works, and just before everyone bolted off to enjoy a little R&R, Syntax-Brillian finally completed the sale of its LCoS operations to Compound Photonics US. In the deal, Syntax-Brillian "licensed its LCoS patents and intellectual property to Compound Photonics US in exchange for a ten-percent stake in Compound Photonics Ltd.," Compound Photonics US' parent company. Furthermore, Compound Photonics US will be handing over an "annual fee" to Syntax-Brillian "meant to offset intellectual property ownership maintenance costs."

Just before folks really get their minds set on waiting for Black Friday, Syntax-Brillian is unveiling a trio of new 1080p Olevia LCDs. Up first is the 65-inch 265TFHD, which features the Silicon Optix Realta HQV video processor, a black aluminum bezel, built-in ATSC / NTSC tuner with Clear QAM support, USB port for firmware upgrades and a decent assortment of ports including two HDMI / component / S-Video / composite jacks and a single VGA input. We're left to assume the 52-inch 252TFHD sports a similar set of amenities, while we're told the 47-inch 247TFHD touts an MTK MDDI video processor but otherwise remains identical to its 65-inch sibling. Price wise, the 265TFHD is set to run you a stiff $6,999, while the 252TFHD and 247TFHD will ring up at $2,499 and $1,999, respectively.[Thanks, Dave]

To compete in todays flat panel television market, you gotta have size, and Syntax-Brillian has found a way around that. Today they announced they will be buying their LCD screens from LG.Philips in sizes from 20" to 47". This means S-B will be able to ensure they can get their Olevia branded televisions on store shelves, and LG Philips LCD knows there will always be someone to buy them, especially with the constant reminders that overcapacity is imminent. This is one of many such partnerships, you'll need a scorecard (if you already don't) to keep track of who actually made the TV sitting in your living room.

CES announcements are flying at us left and right and it takes something out of the ordinary to get our attentions. Well, I got new for you. Syntax-Brillian is showing off a new addition to their Olevia LCDs: the Signature collection. Sure, anyone can slap the "Signature" label on a TV, raise the price and call them high-end; Syntax-Brillian are not anyone.Check out the specs of their 42 and 47-inch LCDs. Video processing by Silicon Optix Realta with just as good audio processing thanks to D2Audio's Intelligent Digital Amplifier. They are, of course, 1080p and have a huge viewing angle of 178 degrees. Two ATSC/NTSC tuners for PIP matched with two HDMI jacks, three component, two S-Video, two composite, VGA, headphone jack, tos-link, and a subwoofer jack. *takes deep breath* Check this out though: they have included a USB port so an owner can download the latest firmware. But it doesn't stop there. The speakers can be mounted on the side vertically, or horizontally across the bottom. But the real pimps remove the speakers and use a good audio system. If these TVs turn out to be as good as they seem, Syntax-Brillian are going to have some winners on their hands.

You'd think that electronics manufacturers would wait for CES to announce new products, but there's a growing pre-announcement trend. This approach sort of reduces the impact of the actual announcement, but who are we to nit-pick?Syntax-Brillian is the latest to jump on the proactive bandwagon with news on their new 20- to 47-inch LCDs. No less than nine new models are due out and you might recognize the Olevia brand in this mix. The new Olevia Signature models are in the larger sizes and sport 1080p resolution, dual ATSC and NTSC tuners, two HDMI inputs and mountable speakers. So what's left to announce?
