Not that getting some hand-crafted 'brew on the Wii was any great feat to begin with, but the kindhearted individuals over at WiiBrew have decided to make things even easier. The newly released Wii Pack Generator is, in its own words, a "web-based utility that allows you to select from the most recent, up to date, and high quality homebrew for your Nintendo Wii and create a custom pack." Everything you select will be beautifully organized into a .zip or .exe file with the correct structure for easy extraction onto your SD card. Any remaining doubts you had about giving this a go just flew out the window (really, we saw it go down), so check the read link to conquer your fears and start really living.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Midna, Rosalina expertly cosplayed by Nintendo convert

Did you know that some people really like Nintendo games? It's true! Some people express their fandom by writing about Target Terror price drops, while others choose to imitate game characters at anime festivals. The Tanooki interviewed one such cosplayer, Andrea Zampella, and found that her Nintendo devotion is a new development! As it turns out, she grew up Segaist. It wasn't until Sonic the Hedgehog games began to show up on the GameCube that Andrea began to appreciate Nintendo consoles. Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games was the catalyst for her complete conversion, marking the end of the Sonic/Mario rivalry. "Plus," she said, "Super Mario Galaxy was the bomb, and so was Rosalina!"Check after the break for a picture of Andrea as Rosalina. More images of both the Rosalina and Midna costumes can be found at The Tanooki, along with the full interview.

The "Nintendo Icon" Amazon Gold Box has gone live, so it's time for those of you who can shop at Amazon.com to get your credit cards at the ready. With nine different deals on the table today, you might just find something that appeals to you.The "Deal of the Day" is Super Smash Bros. Brawl for $25.99, which really leaves you with no excuse not to buy it. The lightning deals are where the excitement is always at, though, and there are eight of them that will cycle throughout the day. Before we get into what's on the list, we must say that the sales are slightly disappointing. Maybe it's just us, but we wish Amazon had included more second-party titles. After all, such games are considered "Nintendo Icons," too. There's one title in particular that we feel is sorely missing -- but we digress. To see Amazon's hints for the eight lightning deals, just click past the break.

The very day that Nintendo released their anti-Twilight Hack update, clever programmer types found the new code and figured out how to beat it. Team Twiizers has made practical use of that information, releasing their own update of the Twilight Hack save file. If you were worried about having to go a whole week without homebrew, you can relax. While they were sprucing the code up with the Wii Menu 3.3 compatibility, Team Twiizers added a few other nice modifications, including better video configuration, region-specific save file icons, and Twilight Hack-specific "Still Alive" parody lyrics hidden inside the LOADER file. That's, uh, totally a feature! Now get out there and brew some homes![Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Still hunting for a Wii? If so, Circuit City's online store has them in around about ... now.Think supplies are going to last long? Hell no! Even though Circuit City is selling the things with an extra Wiimote, nunchuk and two of the titles listed below, we estimate these puppies will be gone soon. We'd usually criticize the practice of forcing customers to buy bundles, but we estimate that at least three or four of the six games being offered are must-haves: Super Mario Galaxy Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Wii Play Carnival Games Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Super Smash Bros. Brawl You're still here!? Go! Go! Go![Via Go Nintendo]

  • Homebrew SNES emulator released for the Wii

Finally, Engadget editor Paul Miller's prayers have been answered -- in the form of a homebrew SNES emulator for the Wii. It's no secret that Paul is eerily obsessed with the SNES, and now he can get access to all his favorites (import or otherwise) with another Wii tweak. The well known emulator SNES9X has been ported to Nintendo's money maker, and it even includes support for the Wiimote (there are plans for future implementation of the Classic controller and two-player game modes). We're assuming this is all part of the much-loved Twilight Princess exploit, though they're a bit short on detail. Hit the read link and start breaking Nintendo's heart ASAP!

Amazon must need to clear out its GameCube stock of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, as this is the second sale the online retailer has hosted in just two days, not that we're complaining! The last deal lasted only four hours and offered the GameCube release for only $19.99, and, while that sounds much cheaper than the $25.99 Amazon is asking for Twilight Princess now, keep in mind that that $25+ pricing includes free shipping. You can make that kind of change slashing at grass and breaking pots for two minutes![Via CAG]

Okay, so the dude looking slightly lost in the background doesn't quite make this scene as convincing as it could be -- you'll have to imagine him as, we don't know, a tree, or a random Beamos or ... something. Aside from that, however, this could totally be Midna, of Twilight Princess fame. This was snapped at last year's Anime Expo in the Gerudo Desert Long Beach, California, though has only recently surfaced on the internets. We've got huge respect for cosplay when it's as well-executed as this -- just look at the craftsmanship on that headdress! For us, this ranks right up there with the Samus cosplay we posted about many moons ago on DS Fanboy (though doesn't give us the same lulz as the Dr. Kawashima example).Go past the jump to see a full-length shot, as well as another fine Twilight Princess cosplay, this time based on bug-lover/general weirdo Agitha.

It takes almost two minutes to get to the "good stuff" in this video, so, while you wait for that to play, here's a quick summary of what you're watching -- Team Twiizers, the group behind the Twilight Hack that allows users to run their own code on an unmodded Wii, have developed a way to expand on that exploit and install a "Homebrew Channel" onto the Wii Menu. The channel doesn't do much yet, but just seeing that it's possible has us excited about other possible applications in our near future! Of course, that's assuming Nintendo doesn't put out some sort of firmware update that blocks the exploit, killing homebrew progress before anyone has a chance to release a "Pirated Games Channel."[Thanks, Craig!]

The Wii 'Twilight Hack' has been upgraded to version 0.1a3, also known as Hello Grandma! Perhaps responding to complaints from Wii's elderly demographic, purveyors of the Twilight Princess exploit have laid out a process that's as simple as popping out that little card from your digital camera and copying some files right next to the folder of 'Senior Night' at the bowling lanes. Insert into your Wii (see image above) and *POOF* ... you'll be playing a second-rate version of Tetris in no time! For those still uncertain about just how easy Wii hackery has become, peep the video walkthrough after the break.[Via Wii Fanboy]

Alright, things are starting to get really good with these hacks. Just after seeing a GameCube / Wii Tetris, Linux build, SNES emulator, and the first homebrew MP3 player for Nintendo's money-maker, we're getting a totally radical, native Genesis / Megadrive emulator for the console. Coder-extraordinaire Eke-Eke has created not only the first of its kind for the Wii (and GameCube), but it's also the first ever that's capable of playing Virtua Racing, a milestone in Genesis emulation. This latest feat utilizes the same backdoor Twilight Princess hack, which is proving to be the best thing that happened to Wii development since... well... ever. Hit the read link and check it out yourself.[Thanks, Craig]

Hacking your Wii to play Pong is one thing, but the recently-revealed Twilight Princess exploit allows all sorts of unsigned code to run natively on the Wii. Homebrew developers are already starting to take advantage, releasing a bunch of interesting and/or useful unauthorized programs for Nintendo's little white box. Among them: Linux for Wii - Coming next: Linux on your toaster MP3 player - Just in case you don't like the crappy one included in the Photo Channel. SNES emulator - Who needs the Virtual Console when you can just steal ROMs of your fave SNES games? Wii Tetris - So much cooler than Pong. No, you shut up! Still no public announcement from Nintendo in reaction to the exploit, though given their recent aggressive pursuit of game pirates, you can expect a PSP-style battle of the firmwares to start any day now.[Thanks to reader Craig for many of these links]

You remember the "Twilight Hack," right? Well, Pong isn't the only thing folks are using this to run, as one man shows us his homebrew version of Tetris running on the system. Originally created as a homebrew project for the GameCube many years ago, this version of Tetris is lacking the bells and whistles most have taken for granted over the last decade or so. Still, it's impressive to see homebrew running on the Wii.[Via QJ]

  • Wii Twilight hack could enable homebrew booting from SD cards

Make no mistake, Nintendo's Wii has been hacked to pieces, but there's nothing like an all new method that keeps the soldering iron residing in the utility drawer to get us all hot and bothered. Unfortunately, what you can see in the video waiting after the jump is only a proof of concept at the moment, but it does show that Twilight Princess can be exploited and homebrew code can be booted directly from an SD card. Also of note, certain versions of the game -- most notably, RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA -- have reportedly been found to not play nice with the aforementioned hack, but hey, it's a start. var digg_url = 'http://www.digg.com/nintendo/Twilight_Hack_teases_homebrew'; "Team Twiizers" have just released a hacked save file for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that allows unsigned code to run. It requires nothing more than an SD card and a copy of Twilight Princess -- no hardware modding needed. Check out the video above, which features not only a demonstration of the hack at work, but also some neat chiptunes from Thomas Detert. This is just a proof of concept at the moment, but at the end of the video, the group promises an ELF loader, which would allow the Wii to run Linux. This isn't the first time someone has hacked the Wii, but it is the first time the tools have been made available. We look forward to the inevitable rush of neat Wii homebrew applications, if this hack is actually developed to a useful stage.[Via NeoGAF]

The Wii might not taste as delicious as a hot cake (results pending), but it certainly sells as good as one. After less than fifteen months since its release, the Wii has sold over 20 million units worldwide. Through rigorous scientific calculations, Nintendo Wii Fanboy has decided to officially quantify that total as "a lot." Most of these units were sold in the past nine months, causing Nintendo's profits to nearly double in that time.Nintendo has also reported that 6 million of those Wii units were sold in Europe. The top selling software in the continent includes Wii Play (selling 2.3 million copies), Super Mario Galaxy (selling 1.3 million), Mario Party 8 (selling 1 million), and Twilight Princess (selling 1.3 million). Not too shabby, Nintendo.[Via press release]

We've all got them: those classic games that we just never got around to completing, or, in some cases, playing. For his part, this blogger has only ever completed two -- TWO!! -- Zelda games (Link to the Past and Twilight Princess), and only made it through one-third of Super Mario Bros. 3. I have played other Zelda and Mario titles of course, sometimes for scores of hours each, but just never quite found the time to finish them. As for Super Mario Galaxy, that was left to collect dust a month ago, with only 21 stars obtained, and 99 still missing.I am not proud of these facts. But I am coming clean now, and it feels good! So put any concerns about your precious gamer cred to one side, and tell us: which gaming classics have you either failed to complete, or not even tried? It'll be our secret. By which we mean, the entire internet's secret.

Oh. It's ... Sheik. Everybody back to work! We're sorry, but you'll have to forgive our lack of surprise. You see, we already discovered that Zelda's tomboy alter ego would be appearing in Brawl.Nevertheless, we did learn some new tidbits from today's dojo update. For example, we now know that swapping between Zelda to Sheik is dead easy -- it's allocated to the down special move -- and that there are benefits to using both. Apparently, the two are completely unique characters, and comparing Sheik's moveset with Zelda's proves this to be true. Finally, if you're wondering where Sakurai and his team took the design for a Twilight Princess-era Sheik from (you'll recall that she doesn't appear in the game), it's taken from a bit of concept art that was drafted up during development. So now you know: at one point, Nintendo was kinda thinking about including Sheik in Twilight Princess, but never got around to doing so. %Gallery-10206%%Gallery-6869%

Most Zelda fans can brag about beating Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Yet, how many of us can boast that we've beaten those four games in 48 straight hours? Probably none.Cameron Banga and his friends will soon have that right, though. They've made it their mission to not only trek through the four 3D Zelda games, but beat them in a 48 hour deadline (which expires tomorrow at 5PM CST). They are also showing their exploits to the world by webcasting the event here. So, are these guys gods among men or just in need of a new hobby? It's up to you to decide.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
