Whatever plans a company may have to keep its crown jewels a secret, the FCC's always here to spill the beans. LG's the latest to have its future intentions scuppered after documents revealed that the company is working on the V500, a 9.8-inch (or thereabouts) tablet. The news is a bit of a surprise, given that the Korean giant had previously stated an intention to concentrate on smartphones over tablet devices. Unfortunately, the only specs we found in our trawl were related to the dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE -- but given what hardware LG managed to cram into the G2, we're hopeful that there will be a similarly impressive engine under this hood.

It's been a hot minute since a flatbed scanner was able to impress, but Epson's USB 2.0 Perfection V500 manages to do exactly that. Sporting a 6400dpi optical resolution and 48-bit color depth, the V500 steps it way up by also throwing in the firm's ReadyScan LED technology, "which delivers fast scans and no warm-up time." Furthermore, you can expect nonexistent wait times when flipping between reflective and film scanning, less power usage, and a LED that automatically "adjusts the color of the light source based on the type of original being scanned, using white light for positive film and blue light for negative film." Not too shabby at all for $249.99, and for those needing an Automatic Document Feeder, the optional add-on will soon be available for $199.99.

Christmas Eve just wouldn't be complete without yet another Chinese PMP surfacing, and this time we're looking at AOC's uber-sleek, ultrathin V500. Just marginally thicker than Apple's latest nano, this unit features a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD, an oh-so-shiny silver enclosure, USB 2.0 connectivity, and handles its fair share of media playing duties. On the audio side, it plays nice with MP3, WMA, and WAV, while you can enjoy those resized versions of Jack Frost and Yule Log (or any Keira Knightley film, obviously) in MPEG4 or AVI formats on the video front. Additionally, it doubles as a JPEG viewer, but doesn't rock any fancy gaming options like many of its competitors. Nevertheless, the V500 should be hitting the Chinese streets soon for an undisclosed price, with versions ranging from 128MB to 2GB in capacity.[Via Engadget Chinese]

Engadget Chinese just spotted another keeper for our growing gallery of cellphone fakes: a knock-off Motorola RAZR called the V500 that's just slightly smaller than the real deal - and costs 1/3 as much.
