  • Patch 5.4 pulls WoW Insider team members into Azeroth

As WoW Insider's Editor-in-Chief, it should go without saying that I'm very proud of our team on a daily basis. Every single one of them brings something unique to the table, whether it be style or perspective. They're passionate about their work and love what they do. I couldn't possibly hope for a better team. Last night, in the midst of perusing the latest PTR datamining, it was discovered that select members of the WoW Insider team will be immortalized in the upcoming patch 5.4. Rossi's Rosin-Soaked Shoulderplates bear the name of Matthew Rossi, warrior extraordinaire, our resident Grumpy Gus, and co-host of our podcast. Stickley's Grey-Shade Hood is named for Anne Stickney, our lore (and everything else) columnist, also a co-host of our podcast. Anne has been assured that the errant L in her name will be resolved. Olivia's Graceful Gaze is, naturally, the helm of Olivia Grace, our PvP columnist, roundtable host, source of infinite pandaren screenshots, and so much more. Olivia also contributes to ZAM with Talk Azeroth and to Gamebreaker.tv as a Legendary co-host. I want to offer all three of them a hearty (yet nerdy) high-five and extend the same to all other World of Warcraft community members who will be receiving similar tribute.

  • Breakfast Topic: Do cities in Azeroth have nicknames?

Outside of Azeroth I found myself clinging to the armrests of my seat, not fearing death but the possibility that I might vomit in sight of the cute guy (with a nice beard) sitting next to me. I was flying into Chicago for a two hour layover, and the turbulence was notably awful. At one point I thought to myself, "Maybe this is why they call it the 'Windy City?'" Then because I'm a hopeless nerd, I immediately wondered, "Do Azerothian cities have nicknames like the 'Windy City' or the 'Big Apple?'" I had no idea myself, but I knew just the person to ask when I got home: Anne Stickney. "You know, I don't really think so in official lore anyway," she told me. "Although the Undercity could almost be considered that, because that's actually the capital city of Lordaeron." Just one nickname out of dozens of cities in Azeroth? Sounds to me like it's time for us to stage an intervention. What kinds of nicknames can you guys come up with for the major cities in World of Warcraft?

About the Bloggers introduces you to the people behind WoW Insider. You can find articles on more WI staffers in earlier About the Bloggers entries. What do you do for WoW Insider? Oh, man. I write Know Your Lore on Sundays, along with the roleplay column All the World's a Stage. On Mondays, you can catch the Weekly Podcast Roundup. On Thursdays, I write World of WarCrafts, and every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I write up The Daily Quest. In addition, I sometimes fill in on The Queue, pop in on the WoW Insider Show when asked, and I do those little guide graphics on the side of the site, too. In short, I write. A lot. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • WoW.com welcomes our new lore columnist!

After looking through the absolutely staggering number of applications for our new lore columnist position, we were able to narrow it down to just a few very, very good applications. Then we had to go through the painful process of narrowing those down further to find the best one. And find the best one we did. Though it was a tough choice, we're proud to announce that we've hired Anne Stickney as our new lore columnist. You might know Anne as Shade, writer of the popular lore blog Shades of Grey. With her encyclopedic knowledge of the Warcraft universe, her light-hearted style, and her intent of making lore accessible to anyone who cares to read about it, she was the perfect choice. Anne will be providing all kinds of lore-based content to WoW.com, whether it's new Know Your Lore columns alongside Matthew Rossi, keeping our older lore columns up to date, or brand-new speculation based on upcoming content. You'll start seeing these in a few weeks, once she joins our raid and helps us take down the ultimate foe -- paperwork. Also, please remember that we are looking for a resto shaman columnist -- you can find out more information on our applications page.
