Microsoft is surprisingly invested in making oddball camera apps for the iPhone. First, it launched a selfie-enhancing camera and then followed that up with Pix, a camera that uses AI to make sure you get the best pictures of other people you might be shooting. But now Microsoft has released its goofiest camera app yet: Sprinkles. In yet another example of a big tech company essentially ripping off Snapchat, Sprinkles lets you make your selfies more fabulous with captions and stickers. But it also mixes in Microsoft's face detection software and AI learning for a few semi-unique features, as well.

You can add Ultimate Camera Free EN to the list of interesting iPhone photo apps that add some unique features to iPhone photography, even getting ahead of some of the enhanced features in the new iPhone 5s. Let me list some of the most interesting features: Record video and take stills at the same time Take still photos remotely using a browser if it is on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone Stop Motion and Time Lapse functions A rapid burst mode, timers and an intervalometer EXIF data easily visible Facebook, Dropbox and Twitter integration Slideshows of video or photos I tried the app and found it fast to load, easy to operate, and while Ultimate Camera Free EN is ad supported, the ads were not intrusive. You can kill the ads with a US$1.99 in-app purchase. Smart focus was precise, and can be locked in with a touch on the screen. You can access your photos from a browser on the same Wi-Fi network and download individual photos or a group as a Zip file. Photos are at full resolution, but there are other options for smaller photos and movies. Ultimate Camera is probably not the ultimate camera app, but it is filled with good ideas and the price is right. It's worth keeping in your photo folder to utilize the unique features it has. I found Ultimate Camera a clever app, I saw no crashes (even under iOS 7 GM), and think it is worth a look. Ultimate Camera requires at least iOS 5.1, and is optimized for the iPhone 5.

On top of the NEX-5R announcement, Sony has unveiled new camera apps that will grace the rear screen of the aforementioned WiFi-enabled shooter first when it arrives in October. PlayMemories will feature downloadable software that can be installed on your Sony kit after purchase, offering new functionality for the device. The set of applications will feature the following options at launch: Picture Effect+, Bracket Pro, Multi Frame NR, Smart Remote Control and Direct Upload. The outfit plans add Photo Retouch alongside the Time-lapse and Cinematic Photo apps mentioned in today's presser sometime after the initial offerings roll out. When paired with PlayMemories Online, Mobile or Studio, you can view and transfer captured photos and videos on compatible TVs, smartphones, tablets and PS3 consoles. If more information is what you're after, consult the PR below to gather some more details.
