Japan is set to receive a brand new 3DS color and a heap of new bundles. Starting March 22, Japanese 3DS fans can pick up the handheld in "Cobalt Blue" -- not to be confused with the lighter "Aqua Blue" model. March will also see the release of four new 3DS bundles. A Monster Hunter 3G bundle will be released on March 17 in both black and red flavors. White and pink Super Mario 3D Land bundles are slated for March 24. These will include both Super Mario 3D Land and a preinstalled copy of the Virtual Console version of Super Mario Bros. There will also be a bundle celebrating the release of Fire Emblem Awakening on April 19. The bundle will include a special cobalt blue DS (pictured), a copy of the game and a card worth 1000 Nintendo Points. We can only hope the cobalt 3DS makes its way outside of Japan. Then again, we're still waiting on the Ice White 3DS here in North America.

  • DS Daily: Is color enough to justify a second DS?

Would you ever buy a second DS, solely because you like the color? It sounds silly, but time and again this blogger has come close to shelling out for one of those Enamel Blue Lites that appeared exclusively in Japan, only to back down at the last minute. It may sound like a fairly ridiculous reason to purchase a second version of any gaming system, but then gamers aren't always rational people, and DSes are desirable and just about cheap enough to justify impulse purchases.Of course, some of you might well be purchasing a second DS in the very near future, as the cobalt blue DS Lite hits U.S. stores today. If you are, tell us about it!

var digg_url = 'http://www.digg.com/nintendo/New_cobalt_blue_and_black_DS_to_ship_on_February_14th'; For those of you who expressed an interest in that new, yummy cobalt blue and black DS, Buy.com has just opened preorders for the handheld. Perhaps more intriguingly, it also reckons that the console will ship in North America on February 14th, a.k.a Valentine's Day, a.k.a the day when roughly half the population is suckered into buying tat for the most contrived of all non-holidays, while the other half feels depressed at the thought of being alone. If you don't have any loved ones, then, uh, hey, love's over-rated anyway, and you've always got DS Fanboy. No? Not helping?[Thanks, Scott!]

  • DS Daily: Did Circuit City spill too early?

Just the other day, a listing popped up on Circuit City for a blue and black DS Lite, not long after rumors of the imminent release of a blue Lite started to circulate. Since then, the listing has been removed (boo), and we've heard nothing else.So what do you think is up? We doubt it's a complete mistake -- as in, a fabricated page or anything. It seems likely that we will see a black and blue Lite at this point, if we've seen it once. Do you think Circuit City jumped the gun with their page, revealing what was supposed to continue to be a secret?[Thanks, Rob!]

The world (or at least, parts of it) has already seen the Ice Blue and Enamel Navy, but are we about to see another shade? According to Platformers, maybe so. They promise that a trusted source -- who has been in the know on rumors in the past -- has let slip that a Cobalt Blue DS Lite is in the cards, and we'll see it as early as next month.Though the rumor doesn't specify, it hints that the color is slated for the North American market. Part of us wants to believe ... and the rest just wonders why we're not getting one of the existing shades of blue if this rumor turns out to be made of truth.
