Niche-focused publisher MonkeyPaw Games has revealed a slate of six classic PSOne games set to launch digitally via the PlayStation Network through January and February. The studio's Retro Rush campaign will conclude on February 18 with the PSN re-release of Tomba 2: The Evil Swine Return, a cult-favorite platformer originally released in 1999. MonkeyPaw previously oversaw a PSN reissue of the original Tomba back in 2012. Building up to Tomba 2's return, MonkeyPaw will launch a new PSOne import game weekly, starting with tomorrow's release of Double Dragon. No, it's probably not the Double Dragon that you're thinking of – it's a port of a Neo Geo fighter loosely based on the 1994 film adaptation of Double Dragon, not the original 1987 arcade game. MonkeyPaw will finish out January with PSN releases for Toshiba EMI's beat-'em-up Lucifer Ring and Human's firefighting sim The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny. February will see the release of Nichibutsu's arcade revamp Hyper Crazy Climber and Data East's horizontally scrolling shoot-'em-up Wolf Fang before Tomba 2 hits on February 18.

lf you happen to have a Japanese Wii, you may have sort of been able to play the arcade classic Crazy Climber before, but only the not-great Wii remake. Now the original is available ... for 800 Wii Points! Oh, Virtual Console Arcade pricing. And, of course, there's more Phoenix Wright. People who didn't have to wait a year between Ace Attorney games don't know how good they have it. On DSiWare, there's an interesting kanji puzzle game which is absolutely guaranteed never to leave Japan. at Kanji Game (you can see the rest of the title in the list) appears to involve pairs of Japanese characters dropping Tetris-style, with the goal of making new words. Crazy Climber (Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,200 Wii Points) Fantasic Cube (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) at Kanji Game Jukugo Kanjukuken Kanshuu (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Hachi-Wan Diver DS:Naruzou-kun Hasami Shogi (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Aquarium with Clock (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) 3 Minute Tenkatouitsu: Western Japan Sengoku Quiz/Eastern Japan Sengoku Quiz (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points each) Idol Nights (DSiWare, 1-4 players, 800 DSi Points) Pocket Rurubu: Hakone/Shinshu (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points each) What Day is it? At full price, the Wii remake of the fossilized arcade game Crazy Climber was a ridiculous proposition. But at $18.90, it's ... a ridiculous proposition that we're actually considering, which, we suppose, makes us ridiculous. Maybe even crazy. But that's the situation Play-Asia has put us, and no doubt others faced with similar, uncomfortable feelings of casual Crazy Climber interest, into with their weekly deal. For this week only, Nihon Bussan's Crazy Climber Wii is marked down from $60 to $18.90. Of course, you'll need a Freeloader or a Japanese Wii in order to play this, so it's a bit less of an impulse purchase than it would seem.

Play-Asia has just started their "Easter Egg" sale, which is actually a sale on video games (though Play-Asia may sell you an egg if you ask). Most of the things they sell (released more than 30 days ago) are 20% off. The Freeloader isn't included, but lots of import games to play using the Freeloader are. It may be a little harder to find excellent deals on the Wii, as opposed to something like the DS which is bursting with deals, but we've found a few interesting items in our brief browse.Shikigami no Shiro III - $35.92Mario Strikers Charged - $19.92Miburi & Teburi - $39.92Crazy Climber Wii - $31.92Oneechanbara Revolution - $ 47.92NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (US version) - $39.92And, why not, Fishing Rod Advance - $3.19It's definitely worth looking around yourself. Play-Asia's selection is vast.

Nihon Bussan's Crazy Climber, about a guy trying to climb skyscrapers, is an arcade classic. And by 'classic', we don't just mean 'good'-- it's also very old, having been released in 1980. Somehow, it's been lifted out of obscurity and brought back for the Wii!The game actually seems pretty well-suited to motion controls. In the original arcade game, each of two joysticks controlled one side of the climber's body: lift his left arm and leg with the left joystick, and use the right joystick for the right arm and leg. The new Crazy Climber will use the Nunchuk and Wiimote in the same way.Other than that and, obviously, the new graphics (which employ a more dynamic perspective) it looks like Crazy Climber. You climb buildings, avoiding falling plants, open windows, giant apes, and other hazards. What an unexpected and random game to remake.
