WRUP: Hero in the face of Death edition
This week saw some pretty low-scoring releases hit the Wii. Frankly, we already forgot what they were. Oh, nevermind, now we know. Nothing much there. Bleh.Still, we wonder if any of you were looking forward to Ubisoft Barcelona's first foray into the Wii in Emergency Heroes? Wii releases this week: Emergency Heroes edition
This week sees a few new games releasing on the Wii, providing those of you with a burning desire to feed your Wii new retail discs an opportunity to do so. Of note is Ubisoft Barcelona's Emergency Heroes, along with the PSP-to-Wii title, Death Jr: Root of Evil. Emergency Heroes confirmed for NA
It looks like Emergency Heroes will be coming to North America, which should please those of you who've ever had the desire to race in ambulances, police cars, and other rescue vehicles. Yes, the game's about actually rescuing people, too, but who cares about that bit? We'll probably run over more people than we end up saving, since we doubt an ambulance or fire truck can handle curves well. Emergency Heroes to put out fires on Wii this May
Ubisoft has announced plans to race to the Wii scene this May with "an open world rescue driving game" called Emergency Heroes. While details remain sketchy, Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will feature two-player co-op and 16 different police, fire, and EMT vehicles to drive about while protecting the city of San Alto.Strapped into the driver's seat on this Wii-exclusive project are both Ubisoft Barcelona and Ubisoft Reflections, the latter of which has more than a few racing games to its credit. Even so, we remain unsure of how to feel about Emergency Heroes, as while Reflections struck gold in 1999 with Driver, since then the company has become better known for having driven the franchise off a cliff with all of the gusto of a man with a death wish. On Emergency Heroes' graphical style
In some screens, Emergency Heroes looks very anime-like -- especially when you can see the bizarre details of the crazy, futuristic emergency vehicles. It's a somewhat more cartoony take on the F-Zero GX-style of racer. But in screens like the one above, the texture-free, shaded environmental elements and angular vehicles remind us more of Killer 7 than anything else.That doesn't really mean Heroes has anything to do with those games, but come on -- who hasn't wanted to turn off of the track in F-Zero or Wipeout to go put out a fire, or respond to domestic disputes in Killer 7. Introducing Wii racer Emergency Heroes, from Ubisoft Barcelona

As you can see, it's all in German (someone get Colonel Klink on the phone, we need a translation!) and features an expansive city that we hope we'll get to race around on, as well as a look at some of the game's vehicles and characters. So far, it appears the game is only releasing to Europe, based on the PEGI rating and all, but we're betting it'll see a worldwide release eventually.
