Logitech G400 optical gaming mouse available for pre-order, wants to replace your aging MX518
It's been almost a decade since Logitech introduced the now revered and oft-imitated MX518 optical gaming mouse, and this mainstay peripheral is finally getting a well-deserved upgrade as the new G400. Externally, the design isn't much different; it's merely sporting a stealthier grey hue and a cable that's "thinner and twenty-five percent lighter." All of the tweaks Logitech has made to help improve your fragging life are internal. The optical sensor is twice as sensitive with a maximum 3,600 DPI resolution (selectable down to 400) that maintains a tracking speed of 140 inches per second, and the mouse reports 1,000 times per second over USB (up from 250). This little guy will even work with the macros on G-series keyboards. If your clicker-finger is starting to itch for one, $50 will snag you a pre-order from Logitech in the US where it's due out on June 19th, while the rest of the planet will have to rock their 518s into July.
Video: dmedia M0 gets the hands-on treatment
This little devil here's been bouncing around in some form or another for nearly a year, and now it looks like dmedia's M0 might actually see the light of day sometime soon. The video shows the 4.3-inch touchscreen device running Windows CE and sporting the specs that we'd been clued into many months ago, including: Samsung 533-800MHz CPU, 800 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, and a 5-megapixel camera. dmedia renames G400 MID, hopes to showcase M0 at Computex
While dmedia has definitely shown signs of life here lately, we've been decidedly left in the lurch with regard to its elusive MID. Initially spotted last November as the WiMAX-packin' G400, said unit skipped out on promised booth appearances at both CES and Mobile World Congress 2009. Being that we're the forgiving bunch, we're still maintaining some level of hope that the recently renamed M0 will indeed make itself seen at Computex this June. Outside of the identity swap, most everything else looks the same; specifications include a 4.3-inch touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution), a 5 megapixel webcam, a Fujitsu-sourced WiMAX module, built-in GPS module and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Details beyond that are few and far betwixt, but hopefully we'll know more as warmer months approach.[Via Pocketables]
gScreen creating rugged dual-screen laptop for animated frogs and Navy frogmen
After spending some time with Lenovo's dual-screen wonder, the W700ds, we were left with somewhat mixed feelings. Having two screens is nice, but at 11 pounds it's not something you really want to take anywhere -- certainly not onto the battlefield. That's just where the gScreen TITAN M-1 is supposedly headed, a ruggedized version of the decidedly rendery 15-inch dual-screen G400 notebook pictured above, intended to meet the military's MIL-STD-810F conditions for operating in generally extreme conditions. Internally it'll be rocking an Intel QX9300 CPU (also found in Lenovo's W700-series), 4GB of memory, and 500GB of storage. This model and other non-rugged versions ranging from 13.3- to 17-inches are said to be releasing throughout the year, but we'll believe it when we see a photograph that wasn't whipped up in 3ds Max.
dmedia G400 with WiMAX: MID or PND?
Apparently the dmedia G400 MID was announced at the WiMAX Expo in Taipei back in June, but this is the first we've seen of it, and solid information is still a little hard to come by. The device will boast a 800 x 400 touchscreen, WiMAX, HSDPA / WCDMA, and GPS radios, a microSD slot, and will come in both 3.8-inch and 4.3-inch configurations. From what we could glean, the system with run atop a SiRFprima CPU, though we haven't seen a lot (say, any) of MIDs using those chips. So, is this actually just a glorified PND? It's hard to say, but we hear the units will hit retail sometime in the beginning of 2009, though we don't know how much they'll cost or where they'll be available. [Via Pocketables]
Lenovo IdeaPad G Series gets official... in Malaysia
Well hey, there's Lenovo's rumored IdeaPad G Series on the company's Malaysian website as of this afternoon. It's not a netbook after all, but a cheap, nice-looking laptop. Specs for the G400 are slightly less great than what we've heard, but they're not bad: 1.86GHz T2390 Core 2 Duo with X3100 integrated graphics driving a 14.1-inch display, 160GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM, a dual-layer burner, and b/g WiFi -- no n, apparently. Pricing is listed at just RM1,999 ($631), so if this thing ever makes it to the States it'll probably make that Eee 1000 decision just a little harder, no?[Thanks, Nick]
NDrive's G400 PND knows when you're one sip over the line
Who do you trust more to tell you when you've had too much to drink -- your family, friends, or lovers, or a cold, emotionless piece of technology? We all know the answer -- you want the NDrive G400. We're not sure if this will actually keep idiots from driving drunk, though it will at least give a realistic impression of just how much you've knocked back -- which might be enough of a deterrent for some people. Other then the built-in breathalyzer, we assume this GPS nav does all the usual things PNDs do, but let's be honest, no one is buying it for the turn-by-turn directions. Samsung's F480 Armani (without the Armani), Dual Touch Chic G400 flip and F400 B&O slider
If mobile-review is right, then Samsung is about to unleash more than a dozen new phones at Mobile World Congress. Rather than overwhelm you with the lot, we've whittled down the selection to a few of our faves. First up, the F480 (pictured left) which casts aside its Armani rags for full-on Samsung branding. The 11.5-mm slim handset with 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 touchscreen features Samsung's latest Croix OS with tactile feedback. It's now sporting 3G connectivity, FM-radio, and the ever so popular 5 megapixel camera (with LED flash). Release is expected in April or May for between €350 and €400. Next up is Sammy's "Dual Touch Chic" G400 flip. Both the internal (2.2-inches, QVGA) and external displays are touch-sensitive surrounded by an all-metal shell. Expect a 5 megapixel camera, FM-radio, and 100MB with microSD expansion when it launches in by May for about €300. Last up is the latest B&O hookup, albeit in a more consumer acceptable slider format. Like the i450 before it, the F400 is a dual-slider: slide the front face up to reveal a keypad, down to slip the phone into music mode with exposed B&O speakers. Otherwise, it's a 3G phone with 2.2-inch QVGA display, RDS-enabled FM radio, and microSD card when it pops in late March with a €370-€390 price tag.
