The new "Game Genie" cheat device is shipping today, July 17. Of this year. No, Galoob hasn't returned – the new Game Genie is a USB cheat device for PS3 produced by Hyperkin. It allows users to transfer game saves to a PC, edit them using pre-programmed edits from a database, and then return the saves to PS3 – for the usual benefits of extra money, ammo, experience, etc. "Popular games that will have modifications at release are Uncharted 3, Batman: Arkham City, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," the company notes.Of course, since the days of ubiquitous cheat devices, there have been some significant changes in the game landscape. During E3, a Hyperkin representative told Joystiq that none of the premade cheats would be usable in multiplayer, and that Hyperkin would routinely remove any that were, in order to avoid cheaters using the Game Genie for online play. But for your own single-player games? Go nuts!

  • Duck Hunt's workplace violates most HR guidelines

On first blush, the workplace behind the scenes of the "increasingly frustrating action" game Duck Hunt doesn't seem so bad -- the boss is smart and organized, the space is very modern and clear of cubicle clutter, and all the worker ducks get free drugs and junk food! We have to pay for our meatball subs and cocaine here at Joystiq. But then you start to realize, thanks to this hard-hitting expose from the folks at College Humor, that the pressure can get to you after a while, especially when the players you're meant to be entertaining start bending the rules. Watch the full short (which is NSFW thanks to language) after the break. [via GoNintendo]

  • Homebrew app Ocarina makes cheating that much easier

You've got to love the Homebrew community. They're constantly trying to cut corners and this latest app, Ocarina, is no different. Instead of spending time inputting button commands in-game, you can simply inject them, Game Genie or Action Replay-style, into the game. For example, in Twilight Princess, the Ocarina app allows the user to climb ladders super fast, have infinite bombs and use a variety of items underwater. Among other things, Link can also use the Spinner in a really imaginative way. [Thanks, RupeeClock!] The homebrew community has been hard at work creating wonderful experiences for you to enjoy with your Wii. Did you know about homebrew game Masteroids? Or how about the shmup OpenTyrian? Outside of games, people have been using the Balance Board to come up with some really neat stuff. Keep up with the homebrew scene by staying current with our Homebrew category!

  • The leaning tower of Sega

Thanks to Joystiq reader CrankSling for sending in this bit of retro goodness -- a Sega Genesis converted into a precarious teetering tower of plastic and silicon by a series of ill-advised add-ons. We can't imagine what would possess someone to actually construct this mostrosity except a deep desire to make a Genesis look like a vacuum cleaner. Anyone out there have a more ridiculously decked out system? Send in a picture and achieve internet immortality (for, like, 15 seconds).
