The Kickstarter-funded action-RPG Hand of Fate is risking its fortune on Xbox One alongside versions already announced for PC and PlayStation 4; the game is set to arrive January 2015. Currently available on Steam Early Access, Hand of Fate combines elements of an action brawler with a tabletop deck-building game. Players explore dungeons, its structure built via a series of cards, and battle swarms of enemies that appear throughout the caverns in search of loot and an exit. Defiant Development's freshman console effort is also slated to arrive on the Vita, but no release window has been revealed for that version.

Tabletop roguelike deck builder Hand of Fate is now available through Steam Early Access. Players collect equipment, enemy and item cards, then play them out in a 3D RPG setting. Defeating the boss in a particular scenario earns more cards. "Anyone who falls in the cross section of PC gamer and board or card game enthusiast will have more fun playing Hand of Fate than a Game of Thrones fan reading the manuscripts of the two unreleased books," said Morgan Jaffit, director of Defiant Development. The game was quietly funded this past winter through Kickstarter. Hand of Fate is also coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Q4 2014 and Q1 2015, respectively. [Image: Defiant Development]

Tabletop gaming fans, this one's for you. Indie studio Defiant Development revealed that its "tabletop roguelike deck builder" Hand of Fate is coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. Funded by a successful Kickstarter project, Hand of Fate is an action-RPG that blends tabletop gaming elements with a deck-building mechanic, allowing players to customize each play session with randomly drawn cards during gameplay. All in-game elements -- from dungeon floor layouts to equipped weapons -- are determined by cards drawn during gameplay, and players must use varied skill and equipment combinations during combat to survive. A release date for Hand of Fate has not been announced. A release for Windows, Mac, and Linux is also in the works. [Image: Defiant Development]

  • Hands-on with DC Universe Online's Hand of Fate DLC

Ah, DC Universe Online. It's what I like to call a vacation MMO. It's so easy to run that even older machines can tackle it, yet it still looks great even in screenshots. The action-based combat seems odd at first, but within a few minutes, you realize just how much fun it is to pick up cars, fly straight into the sky, and jump off buildings, landing with a massive THUD. It's just fun to play, and on top of that, its character creation is often overlooked. It gives players satisfying control over how a character moves and feels. I've enjoyed making smaller scrapper-types so far, but I played an entirely different character for this press tour. Yes, I said press tour! I joined DCUO Creative Director Jens Anderson for a hands-on with the latest DLC, Hand of Fate. We found ourselves in a PUG -- yes, a PUG -- and took orders from Doctor Fate himself. Read on!

DC Universe Online is getting ready for its fifth DLC pack, Hand of Fate. Along with utility belt attachments, new operations in the open areas of Gotham City and Metropolis, and new side quests, Hand of Fate will be bringing Doctor Fate and Felix Faust to Legends PvP. These inimitable fellows will bring sorcery to the Legends PvP character pool, and change things up with the ability to summon pets and minions. While not quite so offensively aggressive as other characters, these characters focus on a control-based, tactical approach to gameplay. Skip below the cut to get a shiny video introduction to heroic Doctor Fate and nefarious Felix Faust.

Did you know that Sony Online Entertainment is on its fifth DLC pack for DC Universe Online? The firm released a blurb earlier today highlighting the Hand of Fate update that's coming your way in September. Would-be superheroes can look forward to new utility belt attachments, new operations, new side missions, and magic-powered Legends PvP avatars. "We want to provide players with unique hero and villain experiences that immerse them in the most iconic DC Comics locations: Gotham City and Metropolis. What we hope players find in this DLC are emergent game play moments that challenge and reinvigorate them in the open world," explains DCUO creative director Jens Andersen. Hand of Fate will be free for Legendary members and available for purchase via the in-game store and PlayStation marketplace for Premium and Free players. [Source: SOE press release]
