There's certainly plenty of reasons not to turn a pair of iPods into some portable speakers -- difficulty, inevitably poor sound quality, pains of regret -- but we're guessing that the sight of the creation above will prompt at least a few folks to start scavenging for parts. Apparently taking some lessons learned from previous Altoids tin speaker mods, Jordan Horwich crafted these for a total cost of $100, which includes the cost of some front and back iPod panels and some rather extravagant shipping rates. As you might expect, the entire project is a tad tricky, and involves a good bit of soldering, plus some Dremel work to make everything fit just right. Hit up the link below for the complete details and parts list.

Earlier this week, we wrote about a beautiful iPhone case mod that involved wrapping the whole thing in a ceramic coating called TiAIN. A lot of you wrote to say how much you liked it. Well, you're in luck, because now you can buy one.Just send in your iPhone plus $299US, and you'll get Black back, no branding TiAlN Black (or gold) glossy logo TiAlN Black (or gold) back bezel Antenna Cover Customization isn't limited to the iPhone. They're also doing the iPod touch ($129) and 3G iPod nano ($99). The process takes 2-3 days, and shipping is free. It looks pretty cool; let us know if you dress up your iPhone or iPod.Thanks, Jason!

We already thought that 4G iPod Bluetooth mod was pretty sweet, but Fstedie has managed to top himself, cramming a BT adapter into a 5G video iPod without altering the stock appearance, apart from that clear third-party faceplate. The basics of the hack are pretty similar -- replace the hard drive with a CF card, wire up a Bluetooth adapter -- but the cramped internals of the 5G case makes it much more difficult to pull off, apparently. If you're feeling brave, instructions are soon to come just beyond the read link.

Cue mournful music. In a post apocalyptic world, all iPods will be rendered useless. Except for this one. Imagine the excitement of being the only person on the planet able to listen to music, all the while being notified of exposure to harmful doses of radiation. Cool!Seriously, this is one nice mod. Flickr user JavaMoose took a vintage (and still operational) Geiger counter he had lying around (don't we all have these?), gutted it, modded the case and mounted his iPod inside. Next, he altered the original wand to accommodate iPod's wired remote. Very clever. You can check out his step-by-step Flickr set here. Well done.[Via Engadget]
