Last week we reported that Perfect World Entertainment's free-to-play title Jade Dynasty would be receiving a new update known as Jade Dynasty: Legacy. The company announced in a press release today that the update has now gone live, and players can experience all of the joys of the Legacy update on the live servers. With this new update, players can explore the mysteries of Incense Valley as one of two new classes: the pyromancy-practicing Incense Valley Mage and the melee expert Forta. Players will need to band together with their allies in order to conquer the treacherous Crimson Peaks instance, which is touted as being "one of the largest in the game." For the full details, and to get in on the action yourself, just head on over to Jade Dynasty's official site. [Source: Perfect World Entertainment press release]

    12.05.2011

Perfect World Entertainment announced today that it will be releasing a new expansion for its free-to-play MMORPG, Jade Dynasty. The expansion, known as Jade Dynasty: Legacy, is the largest single update to the game since 2010's Vengeance, and it brings quite a few new features to the martial arts title. For starters, heroes will be able to venture into the mysterious Incense Valley in search of -- what else -- powerful, delicious loot. Players will also be able to step into the shoes of two new classes: the pyromaniacal Incense Valley Mage and the completely uninformatively named Forta. These classes will no doubt be very helpful in the new Crimson Peaks Voidland instance, which will play host to a party of 10 to 25 players as they face its dangers in hopes of securing the treasures hidden within. A number of balance passes have been made as well, which will hopefully ensure a more fair and enjoyable experience. For the full details, head on over to the Jade Dynasty official site. Whether you're an old hand in Jade Dynasty or you've been playing for as long as the game has been around, Perfect World Entertainment wants you to start back from the beginning. But not out of malice -- no, it's because the game's new expansion, Path of Glory, is just around the corner. And when one of the centerpieces of the expansion is a completely revamped main storyline, wouldn't you want to give that revamp all of your attention? Maybe not? Well, there are going to be more features in the expansion, too -- features such as gems to socket into equipment for improved stats and a new clan instance to fight for glory. But maybe all you need to see is an impressive trailer for the update -- and look, we've got just that right past the cut here. So jump on past that break and take a look at some of the images associated with the upcoming expansion.

  • Jade Dynasty's Imperial Citadel update goes live

Perfect World Entertainment has announced that Jade Dynasty's Imperial Citadel content update went live today, and the patch brought a healthy chunk of new features with it. For starters, the update introduces a new dungeon known as the Shura Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is a dungeon made up of an "even more twisted version of Shura," a previous game zone. The only way out of the warped dungeon is to go in further. Hooray, paradoxes! For each wave of the gauntlet that players complete, they'll be rewarded with increasingly powerful items. There's also the Imperial Citadel, which has been reworked for Ascended Vitalized players, and gives them the opportunity to test their mettle through a series of "Imperial Tests." These tests will reward success with Chroma Beads, and they can be completed multiple times per day for players who want to roll around in a never-ending pool of beads. On top of this new content, the update also brings with it a couple of new daily quests and an improved item store. Head on past the cut for a shiny new trailer to commemorate the update.

Jade Dynasty is hitting the two-year mark on Wednesday, and the staff at Perfect World Entertainment wants to celebrate in style. And it starts today, with a doubled experience gain turned on from now until June 22nd. But that's only the smallest portion of the various anniversary events and prizes players can expect, which include special in-game giveaways on the game's various servers along with special quest events that can award items found nowhere else in the game. While most of the special events will be running for the length of the doubled experience event, a special site has been set up for a giveaway that goes live as soon as the clock ticks over to June 15th. There's also a cosplay contest for players and a special audiocast slated for some point during the anniversary week. Jade Dynasty players should take a look at all the festivities planned, which should more than satisfy long-term veterans of the game.

  • Jade Dynasty dev diary previews Spring Content Update

    03.15.2011

There's a new content update coming to Jade Dynasty later this month, and Perfect World Entertainment has released an accompanying video dev diary that aims to give interested fans an early look-see. The video is hosted by Jade Dynasty community manager Greenthorne, and he walks us through a brief demo of the game's new Chroma skills. These skills are affinity-specific and grant access to a wide range of powerful abilities. Chroma skills are quite devastating, and as such, aren't easily obtained. Greenthorne hints at a series of trials that players will undergo in order to unlock the skills and also mentions that skill power may be increased by contributing to the destruction of the game's dragon gates via various quests. User interface enhancements are also coming courtesy of the Spring Update. The events list has been renamed JD Revelations and now features information relating to weekly events, dungeon timers, battlegrounds, level requirements, and bosses. The boss tab is particularly interesting given that it tells a player just about everything worth knowing about various Jade Dynasty boss mobs including respawn rate, recommended level, and related loot drops. The tab even provides an auto-routing function for players having a hard time navigating to a particular boss. Check out the new enhancements in the video after the cut.

Perfect World Entertainment is always busy. No, seriously -- these guys and gals do not sleep. They now publish nearly 10 titles and show no sign of stopping. Their newest and largest title, Forsaken World, just hit open beta at the time of this writing, so we thought it might be a good idea to ask a few questions of the developers. We tracked down PWE's Clifton Chu, product manager for Forsaken World, to give us some info on the new game and the company's MMO presence. If you have been excited to play it or any of the other titles in the Perfect World lineup, 2011 is going to be a very good year for you. Not only can you try out every title on its roster, but you can do it at your own pace. No subscription fee also means that you'll have more money to blow in the cash shop. • Exclusive interview: Exploring the Forsaken World

Perfect World Entertainment is no slouch when it comes to big games. After all, they have Perfect World, Ether Saga Online, Jade Dynasty, Battle of the Immortals and more under their belt. It seems as though they have decided to one-up themselves, though, with their recent development on Forsaken World -- so named because it is practically the opposite of Perfect World. Forsaken World promises to be more stylistically blended and to be a little darker, as well. Most of the 3500 (yes, that's 35 hundred) Perfect World International developers have been working on the project over the last three years. Previous PWI games took closer to a year to release -- so that might give you some idea of the scale of the game. We've been handing out some nice chunks of information lately, but when I sat down with Jonathan Belliss, Director of Marketing, I found out there was a lot more to come.

  • Jade Dynasty expands with a Vengeance

    08.11.2010

Sadly, there's no Bruce Willis, but there is a lot of martial arts action (which we feel is a fair compromise). Jade Dynasty, the free-to-play MMORPG from Perfect World Entertainment, is releasing Vengeance on August 25th, and the update looks to bring plenty of additional content to new players and veterans alike. If it's faction choice you want, Vengeance has it in the form of the manipulative Celan or the dangerous Rayan assassins. Also new to Jade Dynasty is the Territory Wars system, featuring alliance vs. alliance warfare that varies from server to server depending on player actions. If PvE is more your style, check out the new daily events and daily quests, as well as ten new world bosses designed to test your martial arts and magical mettle. Finally, the Vengeance expansion introduces a cross-server partying system to ease the pain of finding a group, as well as a unique take on auction houses that rewards players based on their bids. For more details, be sure and visit the official website.

Need a change of pace? Feeling a bit stymied with working on your main character? Well, if you're still wanting to get your game on, but not sure what to do, it's a great time to roll that alt you've been thinking about! If you happen to roll one in Perfect World Entertainment's Jade Dynasty, then you might run into today's contributor, Prantik G., who captured this early-level look at the game for us. He writes in: "Not all starting areas are dull and boring. In Jade Dynasty the starting area for Athans starts with a lush forest, merging into a plain, flowing into a river, rising to mountains, and ending with a mysterious portal to the human realm. This picture is one of the fields of the Divine Realm. To the right is a stony, beaten path leading to one of the Athan cities. The Athans truly enjoy their first moments in Jade Dynasty!" From the starter areas to endgame, we love to see your images of MMOs. If you'd like to help us out with One Shots, then send in your screenshot to us here at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here for everyone to enjoy and give you the nod. %Gallery-85937%

    05.18.2010

Perfect World Entertainment's free-to-play MMO Jade Dynasty hasn't seen an expansion since last November, so fans have been hoping that another is on the way soon. Players received some new dungeons just last month to hold them over, and now PWE are beginning to drop hints as to the next expansion. The newest developer blog post over at PWE gives an overview of two new classes coming with the expansion as well as ten new screenshots detailing some of what's to come in this as-yet-unnamed expansion. We get our first look at the Celan and Rayan, powerful new forces sent by the Athan. We learned about the impending arrival of Territory Wars, in which alliances will fight it out for control of different lands within Jade Dynasty. If that isn't enough, the post ended with a hint of much more to come: "but what good is the ability to conquer the world without some upgrades? How about smoother movements, better physics and destructible environments?" It looks like PWE have much more planned for this expansion, but for the time being, check out the latest information on the developer blog.

Perfect World Entertainment has rolled out previews of new dungeons in two of their games, and fans should be pleased with what they find. Jade Dynasty introduces the Dread Labyrinth, a 5-6 man dungeon for players in the 120-150 level range. Navigate the Flower Cave, Stone Fall Cave and the Demon Village to face the fiery wrath of the creature in the Kirin Cave and earn Taichi Pills and Sky Coins. (What is a Sky Coin? Sky Coins can be used as currency to purchase Unique Pets, Sky Serenity Charms and in the future, awesome Espers.) Ether Saga Online players can take a sneak peek at The Obscurity, the upcoming 4-6 man dungeon, featuring five boss fights including fallen deities and mighty dragons. Both dungeons are coming soon, but for now you can make the wait a little easier with plenty of information and screenshots from both the Dread Labyrinth and The Obscurity.

In a day and age where we all seem to have mobile devices kicking around, podcasts are great for keeping up with news and opinions on your favorite topics while still being on the go. Needless to say, we're a bit fond of podcasts around here, so we're happy to announce the first full episode of Perfect World Entertainment's official podcast, In a Perfect World, is available for download. Covering the full range of Perfect World Entertainment's products, the first show includes discussion on Battle of the Immortals, Perfect World International, Ether Saga Online, and Jade Dynasty. Unsurprisingly, the centerpiece of the Battle of the Immortals segment is an explanation of the game's delay until mid-April. There are also previews of the next few Perfect World International events, discussion of the recently-added player-made mount in Ether Saga Online, and in-game events in Jade Dynasty. Various download and aggregator links for the podcast are available on the official blog entry, along with a small contest to win a Barbarian Tiger statue. If you're a fan of the multitude of free-to-play games the company offers, it should be worth the time spent listening.

As we mentioned on Friday, Jade Dynasty is getting a brand new expansion and we the inside scoop for you. This Thursday is the release of the free update, but you don't have to wait that long to find out the story on the game's new Ascension system, brand new race, and new pet features. We sat down with Jade Dynasty's American product manager, Andrew Brown, and talked with him about the update. Not only did we find out exactly what's in the expansion, but we also got a glimpse into how the game is made and how much control American audiences have over the features in a Chinese MMO.
