'Jessica Jones' props will hit the auction block in December
If you've ever fancied yourself as a private eye with superpowers, you'll soon have the chance to get your hands on a desk that might make you look and feel the part. Props and costumes from the Netflix series Marvel's Jessica Jones, including the eponymous PI's desk, will hit the auction block in December.
Netflix officially cancels 'Jessica Jones' and 'The Punisher'
You knew Netflix's remaining Marvel shows were living on borrowed time after it cancelled Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist within weeks of each other -- and sure enough, the remaining productions are on the way out. Netflix has cancelled Jessica Jones and The Punisher, putting an end to the Marvel partnership that started in 2013. Jessica Jones' third season will still launch on Netflix later in 2019 as a last hurrah, but that's as far as it goes.
Netflix and Disney cancel 'Daredevil' too
Last month Netflix announced two of the "Defenders" series it produces with Marvel and Netflix had come to an end, and now it's pulling the plug on Daredevil too. Season three debuted just a few weeks ago starring Charlie Cox as the blind hero protecting Hell's Kitchen, but that's it -- for now. In a statement, Netflix said "We're thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show's writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we're grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel." As Disney has ramped up development on its Disney+ service, the two sides haven't been able to come up with agreements to continue these series any longer. Still, there's a possibility Disney could turn around and introduce something for its network now. Meanwhile, Netflix is spending money in other areas, although once Disney+ launches in 2019 it will be interesting to see how it responds. Daredevil was the first Marvel/Netflix show to hit the service in 2015, and now only Jessica Jones and The Punisher are left. Hopefully we have a few more hallway fight scenes ahead of us before a (seemingly) inevitable end comes to them too.
Netflix cancels 'Marvel's Iron Fist' after two seasons
It has been nearly five years since Disney and Netflix teamed up to launch a suite of Marvel TV series based on characters in The Defenders, and after two seasons Iron Fist is ending its run. There's no word on whether or not the character will come to Disney's (name still TBA) streaming service when that launches, but Deadline reports what the companies said in a joint statement: "We're thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we've shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on." As it stands, Daredevil season three is set to premiere in a week, while additional seasons are on order for Jessica Jones and The Punisher. According to Deadline, Luke Cage is close to being renewed soon, so maybe we'll still see Jessica Henwick, Finn Jones and others from the series pop up there or in another Defenders team-up show.
'Jessica Jones' gets a third season at Netflix
Netflix was clearly confident Jessica Jones' second season would be a hit, and it appears that belief was well-founded. The streaming giant has renewed Marvel's jaded investigator-slash-superhero show for a third season just a month after the second string of episodes premiered on March 8th. There's no date or casting details, but it could take a while before the saga continues -- remember, the second season arrived more than two years after the series' November 2015 premiere.

In the first trailer, released earlier this month, we saw Jones grappling with her past and trying to get some answers to the many questions she has about her powers and the car crash that killed her entire family. In the second trailer we see how her anger affects, and often complicates, the life she has now.

After a brief teaser late last year, Netflix is finally ready to reveal what Jessica Jones' long-in-the-making second season is all about. The service has posted a full trailer for the Marvel show that focuses on Jessica's past: she wants to know why she's the only one to have emerged alive from the horrific crash that killed her family. It also brings up an attempt to take over her private investigation practice and a mysterious killer terrorizing New York City. In short, Jessica will have her hands full.

To say that the second season of Jessica Jones has been a long time in coming would be an understatement. Netflix premiered the first season of the investigator-turned-superhero show in November 2015, and it committed to a second season at the start of 2016. At last, though, it's nearly here: Netflix has posted a trailer confirming that season 2 will premiere on March 8th, 2018. The preview hints that the new season will dive deeper into Jessica's nebulous past, and that she continues to take no crap -- there's a not-so-subtle dig at Spider-Man, for one thing.
'The Defenders' Comic-Con trailer features punching, heroes
Stop us if you've heard this one before: There's a threat facing New York, and a few of Marvel's punch-happy heroes need to clean it up. Based on the new trailer shown tonight at Comic-Con -- where, Deadline reports, Netflix screened the entire first episode -- the plot of every Netflix Marvel series so far will remain consistent with this eight episode The Defenders mini-series that arrives August 18th.

Five seasons of Netflix-Marvel goodness (or, in the case of Iron Fist, mediocrity) have all built up to this. Building on last month's teaser, Netflix has released the first full-blown trailer for The Defenders. Like The Avengers movies, the project is a culmination of many interlocking 'cinematic universe' ideas. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist -- all four TV shows stand on their own, but share characters, lore and the occasional cameo appearance that bind them together. The Defenders, a team-up of New York's street-level heroes, will prove whether Netflix can deliver such an ambitious, expensive crossover project in the streaming world.

Netflix is determined to start 2016 with a bang. As part of a broader premier announcement, the streaming service has revealed that Jessica Jones is getting a second season at some point in the near future. The move isn't exactly shocking given both Netflix's marketing blitz for the show, its critical praise and the need to flesh out the on-screen Marvel universe (there are plans for a Luke Cage series, for instance). Still, it's big news for fans -- the first season drew acclaim not just for its gritty take on a normally squeaky-clean world, but its ability to tackle serious issues (such as abusive relationships and sexual consent) with intelligence.

What's on your HDTV: 'High Castle,' 'Jessica Jones,' 'SW: Battlefront'
This week two of the biggest releases come from streaming services. Netflix premieres its second Marvel series with Jessica Jones, while Amazon Prime has its adaptation of a Philip K. Dick novel, The Man in the High Castle. Both have looked good in early previews, but until they launch Thursday morning, we're focused on the games. Star Wars: Battlefront is here, along with the final episode of Telltale Games' Game of Thrones series. Finally, movie fans may want to check for The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki on Blu-ray. 'Jessica Jones' trailer continues Marvel's gritty Netflix vibe
Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series was a surprising dark addition to Disney's cinematic superhero universe, but it looks like the new Jessica Jones series is going to push things further into adult territory. The first trailer for the series introduces us to Jones, played by Krysten Ritter (Veronica Mars, Breaking Bad), a former superhero who's now running her own detective agency. She's like your typical tough-talking noir detective -- except she has super-strength and the ability to fly. We also see a brief glimpse of Mike Colter's Luke Cage, who'll be getting his own Netflix series next year. The series co-stars former Doctor Who David Tennant as the baddie, Kilgrave, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Critical response to the first episode from this year's New York Comic-Con was overwhelmingly positive, many reviews also highlighted the series' refreshing depiction of sexuality. All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones hits Netflix on November 20, just in time for Thanksgiving binge watching.

Marvel's 'Jessica Jones' arrives on Netflix November 20th
The latest installment in Marvel's on-going Netflix original series slate is set to arrive this fall. The first season of Jessica Jones will stream in its entirety on November 20th. The new series stars Krysten Ritter (Big Eyes, Veronica Mars) in the lead role with Doctor Who's David Tennant as the villain Kilgrave and Mike Colter (The Good Wife) as Luke Cage. If you'll recall, Cage is set to get his own series in 2016. Need a refresher? The plot centers around Jones as a New York City detective and former super hero who finds herself on cases involving people with "extraordinary abilities."
