According to Deadline, Street Fighter fans should keep an eye out for a new TV series currently in development from Entertainment One. The producers of the new show were previously involved with the web series Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, and now we'll find out what they can do for TV. Capcom's Street Fighter executive producer Yoshinori Ono said: "After a long search, guided by the team behind Assassin's Fist, we are delighted to be partnering with a company with the outstanding TV experience of Mark Gordon and eOne. They have the credentials to help us launch a faithful adaptation of Street Fighter as a major TV series." Stuntman Joey Ansah has come a long way from 2010's Street Fighter Legacy short, and is one of the executive producers on this project. The new show is based on the plot of the Street Fighter II game, as Ryu, Ken, Guile and Chun-Li chase down M. Bison and become involved in the World Warrior fighting tournament. Fortunately, the team's track record suggests they'll be able to give this project the treatment it deserves, so we don't end up with a Street Fighter: The Movie (The Game) situation.

Live-action web series Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist exhausted the entirety of its first routine on May 23, but Street Fighter fans know how these things go: Round two, fight! Polygon reports that Assassin's Fist's production team will be handling Street Fighter: World Warrior, a followup series announced at San Diego Comic-Con that will introduce series stars Guile, Chun-Li and Sagat, as well as M. Bison's Shadaloo organization. Polygon adds that World Warrior is scheduled to arrive in late 2015 or early 2016, but in the mean time, Assassin's Fist will reach the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand territories in DVD, Blu-ray and on-demand formats on October 28. Physical copies will include behind-the-scenes bonuses, such as director's commentary, a blooper reel and deleted scenes, one of which will reportedly feature the bright pink karate gi-donning joke competitor Dan Hibiki. As promised, the surprisingly competent, live-action Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist web series is now available in its entirety for your viewing pleasure. Simply click 'Play' on the above video, and let the Machinima playlist do the rest. Written and directed by Joey Ansah (who also plays the role of Akuma), Assassin's Fist focuses on the early days of Street Fighter mainstays Ryu and Ken. Though perhaps not intentional, this is a clever storytelling decision that allows Ansah to focus on a key piece of the Street Fighter mythos without having to find some convoluted way to include the rest of the series' cast. It also removes the need to film in numerous locations, a feat the crowdfunded web series likely couldn't afford. That said, we wish Zangief had somehow found his way into these videos. To date the Russian wrestler's only live-action appearance has been in the 1994 Hollywood adaptation of Street Fighter, where he was among the most embarrassing sights in an exceedingly cynical attempt at cashing in on the popularity of Capcom's flagship fighter. After a life of wrestling bears in the Siberian wastes the big fella deserves a bit more respect. [Image: Machinima]

  • Street Fighter Legacy is the best three minutes of Street Fighter film ever

As promised, the full version of the Street Fighter Legacy short film has been released. You can watch it after the break or click here to see it in resolutions up to 1080p. We're happy to report that Joey Ansah, Owen Trevor and Streetlight Films have figured out the secret formula for making a good Street Fighter movie: make it really short. There's no time for terrible dialogue, shoehorned character cameos or questionable characterization in this three-minute film. There's just time for one beautifully shot fight sequence between Ryu and Ken ... which makes sense for a movie based on a fighting game.

Bourne Ultimatum actor/stuntman Joey Ansah is trying to do what has only ended in spectacular, hilarious failure before: make a Street Fighter movie. Street Fighter Legacy, a short film co-written, co-directed and choreographed by Ansah, is an attempt to treat Capcom's fighting franchise the right way, with an emphasis on a grown-up story and faithful visuals. Apparently, the project is promising enough to receive Capcom's "blessing," according to Ansah. A few poster images and two (very) brief teaser trailers, which you can see after the break, reveal just how faithful Street Fighter Legacy's look is. Ken's eyebrows are accurate, we'll say that much. [Via PlaySwitch; thanks, Nathan!]
