The Devil's Gun: Prelude is the first installment of a new, narrative driven series of machinima by Kidsake. Filled with dolorous voiceover and Kidsake's powerful visual style, The Devil's Gun looks like it could be a huge breath of fresh air in recent machinima. Designed to tell a story and do some world building, we don't see videos like this very often. Kidsakes described it as a post-apocalyptic western fantasy based on a Pathfinder game he'd once run; that certainly sounds like legitimate geek cred, there. I can't wait to see where this goes. Work warning: A couple of f-bombs and some hardcore imagery -- nothing perverted; it's somewhere between Slayer and a Chick tract. This video by the erudite Kid Sake could easily be confusing for many folks. It's somewhere between a parody and a love letter. This is what Kid Sake had say about it himself: My homage to the metal videos of the 'Satanic Panic' era (late 70s, early 80s) where the devil and his demons were hiding behind EVERYTHING. After-school specials told us how evil DnD was and churches held record and book burnings regularly. What better way to pay tribute to the likes of Dio, Iron Maiden, etc then using Dave Grohl's love letter band to the metal of that period, Probot. And what better singer to mesh it all together than Jack Black. Ultimately, I am the Warlock is nothing else if not an astounding display of Sake's skill at putting together the imagery and graphics of machinima. The video is smooth and attractive, and it flows incredibly well. Sure, I can see some folks being put off by the imagery, but the skill with which it comes together is remarkable. • WoW Moviewatch: Hiszi, Chapter 1

This movie is a little different from what we normally cover on Moviewatch, although it includes a familiar face. This movie is a PVP and leveling diary created by Kidsake, whose videos like A Westfall Drama and God's Gonna Cut You Down are already fairly popular around here. Hiszi, Chapter 1 isn't very long, clocking in only a little over 3 minutes. While I'm normally not enamored of video diaries, especially of gameplay, Kidsake did a pretty good job of capturing my attention and keeping it. I think it might be the somewhat surreal opening or the awesome background music. Like I said, this video is definitely a little different from what we do around here, but it's worth checking out Interested in the wide world of machinima? After looking at Heroes by Kidsake last week, I wanted to take another pass at A Westfall Drama. The video enjoys a lot of the same mystique, but A Westfall Drama manages to capture a sense of loss, misery, and grief. The music is Goddamn You, Jim by the Felice Brothers. I hadn't been aware of the song until I heard it in this video, and my hat's off to Kidsake for using such original music. The poetry of the lyrics and haunting voice supplements the video very well, matching both the tone and ponderous narration. Kidsake really does amazing work. It's worth the wait between each of his videos, but I can't help but to hope for more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! It's been a long time since we've heard from Kidsake. His music video for God's Gonna Cut You Down received huge acclaim among machinima fans. The use of Johnny Cash as musical background, coupled with unique and interesting visuals, thrilled many of us. Kidsake's back with a new video called Heroes. It's a shout-out to his friends and fellow WoW players, featuring a large series of character vignettes set to Peter Gabriel's cover of Heroes. This surprisingly moody, brooding piece actually reminds me of Kidsake's other videos. He definitely brings a thoughtful, enigmatic feel to his videos. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Since there's been talk about non-rap, non-pop machinima lately, I wanted to take the opportunity to again share God's Gonna Cut You Down. This is actually one of my favorite videos in recent years; the song's cut from a different cloth, and the visuals are amazing. Kidsake really did something amazing with this machinima. He managed to tell a haunting, interesting story without breaking out into obvious narrative. And while I'm obviously a lavish Johnny Cash fan, I think I can say without bias that the music was a perfect choice for the video's themes. Interested in the wide world of machinima? I tend to shy away from featuring too many previews or trailers because you never know if the advertised video will actually ever come to fruition. However, Kidsake has a pretty good reputation, and his previous work is well-loved enough that I thought I'd take a chance. As you can see, the video for PLATE just looks awesome. Kidsake's work has always been beautiful and haunting. God's Gonna Cut You Down is still one of my favorite mood pieces. I'm eagerly looking forward to PLATE, as I'm excited to see what he'll do with it. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch!
