  • Rumor: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster to include Mega Man, Frank West, and more

A source shared what they claim to be the full roster for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, containing no fewer than 18 characters who have yet to be announced by Capcom, in addition to a new "War Machine" look for Iron Man. The list includes characters like the Red Arremer, Mega Man (in Battle Network and classic styles), and Frank West/Chuck Greene (probably as alternate versions of the same character) on the Capcom end, and Ultron, Squirrel Girl, and Thanos from Marvel. The most random character on the list is probably Victor Delacroix from 2003's Chaos Legion. Though, of course, all of this new information is unconfirmed, it's worth noting that She-Hulk and Zero, both appearing in the list from our source, were announced after we received it. In addition, some of the characters, like Frank West and Soki, are believable because they were featured in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (like Zero) and thus are probably relatively easy to update for MvC3. The Mega Man character is likely also similar to the Mega Man Legends-style version found in Tatsunoko. It's possible some of the new characters are even based on Tatsunoko movesets -- Delacroix makes more sense if he's taking the place of the sword-wielding Karas or Tekkaman Blade, for example. A couple of new challengers have appeared in the crossover fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. GameSpot revealed that Mega Man X's buddy Zero, last seen fighting in this year's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, will join the Capcom side, while IGN posted a trailer revealing She-Hulk on the Marvel side. Check out both trailers after the break, and watch out for a brief cameo from yet another new character, "Some Really Unfortunate Driver," in She-Hulk's trailer. [Thanks, Zonic505]

  • Capcom counting on 2M sales for MvC 3, accelerating R&D change after Inafune departure

Capcom has high hopes for two major titles lined up for the second half of its fiscal year. The company expects the Japanese release of Monster Hunter Freedom 3 on PSP to move a whopping 3.6 million units which, given the portable series' sales history, isn't unreasonable. Capcom also expects to move 2 million units worldwide with the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in Spring 2011. The publisher also stated that the departure of Managing Corporate Officer Keiji Inafune has accelerated the company's overhaul of its R&D organization. Originally planned for the next fiscal year (starting April 2011), the shift will attempt to adjust for the "unprecedented period of volatile change" occurring in the industry. The company views "social networking service" games as a business opportunity and plans to "swiftly form an organization and formulate strategies to address" changes. The company also did some other executive shuffling to streamline its R&D to "enable Capcom to adapt to markets that are becoming increasingly larger and more complex." %Gallery-91173%

  • Amazon trades canceled Dead Rising 2 Avatar clothes for half off Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Good news: the Avatar outfits offered by Amazon as pre-order bonuses for the Xbox 360 version of Dead Rising 2 won't be delivered after all. Why is that good news? Because who cares about Avatar clothes (even Servbot heads), when the replacement is half off a pre-order of Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Amazon sent out emails to pre-orderers, offering 50% off of pre-orders of the fighter as a conciliatory gesture for the now-canceled Avatar finery. Combined with the $10 credit offered when the codes for the clothing were merely delayed, that's a $20 copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 3! We'd gladly not take any Avatar clothing in exchange for those kinds of savings.

  • Rumor: Mike Haggar in Marvel vs. Capcom 3

When he's not busy being the mayor of Metro City, Mike Haggar is appearing on Capcom employees' computer monitors during Halloween parties. Spotted above, Haggar is seen in what appears to be the Servbot stage of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 behind a costumed Capcom employee. Shoryuken also speculates his elbow is what appears to be cut off in the right side of the image. While Haggar appeared way back when in Saturday Night Slam Masters, the former wrestler turned city mayor has yet to make an appearance in a fighting game proper. Could Marvel vs. Capcom 3 be it? It's certainly possible -- Capcom has since removed the photo from its Halloween party gallery.

The Marvel Games panel was bursting with energy, with fans cheering on their favorite characters. Who would you want to play as? The obscure, but awesomely named and shaped "Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing" -- or fan-favorite Magneto? Let us know.

The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster just keeps on growing. At a New York Comic Con panel, Capcom announced the addition of Bionic Commando's Nathan Spencer (with dreadlocks and bionic arm!) and Ghosts 'N Goblins' Sir Arthur, both from the Capcom half of the fighting mash-up. In addition, Capcom revealed some alternate costumes for Spider-Man. Oh, and there's a story, too: "Victor Von Doom has assembled the greatest villains his world has to offer. Together with the diabolical Albert Wesker, this unholy alliance will join their respective universes in an effort to conquer both. But doing so has come with a terrible price. A great and powerful threat has been awakened .... a threat that will set into motion a battle the likes of which neither world has ever seen ... a battle that threatens the fate of two worlds!" But that's not all! This weekend will hold at least one more MvC3-related surprise. Marvel is having a panel of its own tomorrow morning at 10:45 a.m. EDT, where it will announce two more characters from its side of the game -- in addition to a brand new game. We know that one is a returning character, but one is a newcomer to games. Exciting, no? We're planning on live-blogging the event, so stay tuned!%Gallery-104667%

  • Capcom expecting better sales for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 than Street Fighter 4

Some may think of pitting the two worlds of Marvel and Capcom against one another as the ultimate cage match -- but have you considered what the match-up of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 against Street Fighter 4 might look like? Capcom's Christian Svensson recently told EventHubs that he expects the former to outsell the latter, thanks to the recognizable characters lent by Marvel, as well as "a more accessible but still deep fighting system that's fun for casual players and EVO attendees." Svensson added that he expects extremely strong sales for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 thanks to the fact that it "has been by far, our most requested sequel title in my tenure here at Capcom." Obviously, we need to look into recruiting more outspoken members for our Little Nemo: The Dream Master fan club.

The wristband pictured above isn't just a charming, retro-stylized fashion accessory -- it was our ticket into one of the most exclusive events held in Chicago last evening: The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Fight Club. We didn't see a lot of you guys there (tsk, tsk), so we've gathered up our favorite photos taken during the proceedings and placed them in the gallery below. Basically, we'd like to be your wristband into the event. And, since it took place last night, we guess we'd like to be your time machine, too. We tried as best we could to capture the feel of the event in photos -- like the excitement of the frequent, close matches where fortunes were reversed in the final seconds of a bout; or the surreality of seeing people cover themselves in fake shiners and busted lips. There was also general confusion around a decapitated Servbot head, which, we're almost certain, we never saw anybody wear during the evening. Was it some kind of warning? We may never know. %Gallery-103118%

  • Capcom report says Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will launch by end of March

The "Games Software Sales Forecast" included in Capcom's latest financial report includes launch windows for a handful of the company's upcoming titles -- the most intriguing of which is Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. According to the report, the game is set to launch sometime during the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year, meaning Capcom's planning to release it some time between January 1 and March 31, 2011. Capcom's no stranger to releasing its blockbusters during the first few months of the year -- however, this strategy became riskier with the arrival of this year's first-quarter "second Christmas." As such, the report states that Capcom "will further refine our long-term portfolio by deploying major titles in each quarter of the fiscal year." If only every other game company would be so prudent, we might be able to avoid the crushing load of games we have to wade through during the year's occasional busy release months. How about it, gaming industry?

Capcom's TGS announcement of Spider-Man's addition to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a formality. Of course Spider-Man was going to be in there. Nobody's going to put the effort into modeling X-23 and not bother to get to Spider-Man. Yes, Marvel's marquee wall-crawler is back (and we're glad to see him), with most of his moves from previous MvC games intact. Now, Resident Evil's Albert Wesker, that's a neat surprise. He's really fast! And he teleports! And he has a really nice black trench coat! See videos of both new characters after the break, courtesy of GameSpot. Update: Now with our own versions of the trailers from Capcom. [Thanks, Paul!]

Capcom's over-the-top comic book crossover has picked up another combatant at Tokyo Game Show. Ripped from the pages of X-Men, "X-23" enters Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as a nimble counterpart to Wolverine. As our exasperated comic expert points out, "She's a female clone of Wolverine and possesses all of his regenerative and feral abilities. She also has adamantium-coated blades protruding from her hands and feet -- so she probably doesn't spend a ton of money on gloves or galoshes." You can get a snikt peek at X-23 in action (along with Tron Bonne) in the video clips after the break. %Gallery-102431%

This latest Marvel vs Capcom 3 trailer reveals that Mega Man Legends' Tron Bonne is apparently a playable character, as she was in MvC2. Oh, Captain America also destroys a helicopter, Viewtiful Joe rides Amaterasu on a flowery Super-Skrull and, well, a lot of stuff happens. You should watch it.

Capcom released footage of Marvel vs. Capcom 3's newest fighters, Viewtiful Joe and Dormammu, and we're happy to report that they look suitably insane for the high-flying, explosive fighter. Dormammu (a demon) acknowledges Devil May Cry's Dante as a "demon hunter" in the game, which is a nice touch! Head past the break to see the new characters in action, along with a new trailer. Speaking of the new characters and Dante, it occurred to us that with Joe, Dante, Trish (all of whom appeared in the PS2 version of Viewtiful Joe), and Amaterasu, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is turning into a Clover Studio reunion! Without any actual Clover Studio staff, of course. The game just needs Gene from God Hand and it'll be a total Clover tribute.

Two more characters have joined Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Neither Viewtiful Joe nor Dormammu are strangers to alternate universes -- Joe jumped into Movieland to rescue his girlfriend Sylvia, and Dormammu is the ruler of his own Dark Dimension. For these two, suddenly being faced with a universe full of new people throwing hadoukens or whatever at them is not a big deal. Another similarity between the two: Dormammu is primarily a Doctor Strange character (speaking of whom, we'd love to see him make an appearance in this game!) and, well, Viewtiful Joe is a strange character. Look at the size of his head!%Gallery-99712%
