A trial version of Game Freak's re-remade monster-battling RPG pair Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire will hit the 3DS eShop next week, Nintendo announced today. Nintendo also teases new Mega Evolutions for Latios and Latias in the video above, giving players an early look at the advanced forms that await its classic Pokemon characters. Other recent Mega Evolution reveals include Audino, Pidgeot, and (unquestionably best of all) MEGA SLOWBRO. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire hit retail and the 3DS eShop on November 21. The demo version launches on October 21. [Video: Nintendo]

Nintendo will offer a demo version of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire prior to the games' launches, according to its official site. The "early visit" to the games' Hoenn region will include "gameplay that you won't experience anywhere else," as well as a familiar Pokemon that is capable of Mega Evolving. Those that play the demo will be able to transfer said creature in addition to reward items to the full version of the game. Nintendo did not specify when the demo would be made available, but did mention that fans will be able to play it as many times as they like (some 3DS demos are limited in the number of times they can be accessed). The demo will also feature "special scenarios that occur if you play every day." Nintendo will reveal instructions on how players can obtain a code in the near future. The latest Pokemon to receive the Mega Evolution treatment is Audino, a 'mon with such precise hearing that it can diagnose illness simply by listening to a patient's body. As a result of this phenomenal ability, the Pokemon Centers of the Unova region keep Audino at hand to assist Nurse Joy. The 'mon apparently took a liking to its unforeseen medical profession as the Mega Evolved Audino almost looks like a tiny, stylized doctor, complete with white lab coat and stethoscope. Though the Pokemon Company is only now debuting Mega Audino, Pokemon fan site Serebii reported on the Mega Evolution two days ago when both Mega Audino and Mega Slowbro accidentally appeared on the official Korean Pokemon website. The Pokemon Company has yet to officially acknowledge the existence of Mega Slowbro, and offered no comment to our inquiries. Despite this, the Korean leak correctly predicted every aspect of Mega Audino, leading us to expect a Mega Slowbro announcement shortly. Mega Audino will make its video game debut in the upcoming Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire 3DS games which are scheduled to launch on November 2. You'll find a trailer highlighting the new Mega Evolution below the break. [Image: Nintendo]

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will arrive on 3DS and 2DS in November, Nintendo announced today. The games are "fresh takes" on Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, which originally launched in 2003 for Game Boy Advance. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were set in the Hoenn region within the series, and featured the monsters Groudon and Kyogre. The box art for the new games, as seen in the announcement trailer, shows off stylized versions of both Pokemon, which may indicate the inclusion of the Mega Evolutions system introduced in Pokemon X and Y. • Mega Evolutions coming to Pokemon trading card game in February

Mega Evolutions, one of the new features in Pokémon X / Y that allows players to take their pocket monsters to new heights in battle, will be making an appearance in the Pokémon trading card game (TCG) next year. Starting February 5, players can pick up 10-card booster packs as part of the Pokémon TCG: XY expansion, which may contain cards that allow them to Mega Evolve one of their Pokémon. In the Pokémon TCG, Mega Evolutions are only compatible with Pokémon-EX cards, which is interesting, because EX cards sort of already did what Mega Evolutions do: they're suped-up, more powerful versions of existing Pokémon, and they're incredibly popular at TCG tournaments. There is a catch to Mega Evolving your Pokémon in the TCG, though. Once you Mega Evolve, your turn ends immediately, so you have to survive into the next round if you want to attack. In other Pokémon TCG news, the Kalos Starter Set, which features the first TCG Fairy-type pokemon - who are resistant to Darkness-type Pokémon - will be available November 8 of this year. Both the Kalos Starter Set and the XY booster packs will include a code card that will help aspiring trainers build up their virtual deck in Pokémon TCG Online.

Nintendo recently showed off the evolved forms of Pokemon X and Y's three starter creatures, Froakie, Chespin and Fennekin. The latest screens and trailer also showcase Pokemon that are evolved from fossils, as well as male and female-specific forms for Pokemon. One of the Pokemon with varying forms is Mewtwo, whose previously announced Mega-evolved form is actually called Mega Mewtwo Y, accessible through the Mega Mewtwonite Y item found in Pokemon Y version. This new Pokemon X and Y trailer shows the other form, Mega Mewtwo X, a fighting/psychic type that is, you guessed it, obtained through the same means in Pokemon X. The games will launch on October 12 for 3DS.

The Pokemon Company offered more information today on the Pokemon X and Y details announced yesterday in CoroCoro. Pokemon capable of mega-evolving, such as Mewtwo, will undergo the change during battle, and only see its effects last for the duration of the battle. Eligible Pokemon must hold a "mega stone" item, each one unique to a particular creature, in order to access its latent abilities. The latest Pokemon X and Y screens and trailer also show glimpses of a new method for boosting a Pokemon's skills. Known as "super training," players can increase an individual Pokemon's base stats by playing mini-games, one being a soccer-like activity. The games will also offer "core training" workouts, allowing Pokemon to slowly improve their stats on their own. Three new Pokemon, Dedenne, Bunnelby and Skiddo, as well as a gym leader, Korrina of Shalour City, were also announced for the games. The mega-evolved version of Blaziken will only be accessed through a special distribution event via Nintendo Network starting at the game's launch for a limited time, which will grant players a free Torchic holding the Blazikenite mega stone. Pokemon X an Y will arrive on October 12 for 3DS. %Gallery-195732% %Gallery-195738%

The next games in the Pokemon series, X and Y, will feature "mega evolutions," according to a translation of a recent CoroCoro Japanese magazine by Serebii. The translation lists a number of evolved Pokemon accessible in the upcoming games, along with their abilities: MegaBlaziken (Speed Boost), MegaAbsol (Magic Bounce), MegaMawile (Huge Power), MegaMewtwo (Insomnia), MegaLucario (Adaptability) and MegaAmpharos (Mold Breaker). Serebii notes that Mawile and its mega form are Steel and Fairy types as well. MegaMewtwo was first revealed for Pokemon X and Y in April, and a video later showed its evolution from Mewtwo itself. We're going to miss calling it Mewtwo With a Handle, honestly.
