Are you impressed by the Kinect's powerful motion-sensing capabilities? Baby, you ain't seen nothing yet -- the guys from Mega64 somehow managed to reach through a fold in time and retrieve the fourth version of the device. Unless -- ah, yes, of course. It's a joke. Pretty sneaky, Mega64.

Oh, Mega64, is there any code you can't crack? First it was the mysterious Kojima teaser last year and now, the comedy troupe ponders on that mysterious new keyboard-like icon in the Rock Band 3 logo. They even find some similarities between Rock Band 3 and F3AR -- er, sorry, FEAR 3. It's some very high-brow deductive reasoning, as indicated in the classy image above. Head past the break to check out the video courtesy of IGN -- "solved 4 good," indeed.

  • Mega64: Version 3 DVD now available

    05.29.2010

For fans of Mega64 such as ourselves, it's almost a little surreal to report that, after beginning production during the Reagan administration, Mega64: Version 3 has finally been released on DVD. For $19, you'll get six new episodes of the show (the first in nearly four years), behind-the-scenes docs on each episode and a bevy of other special features. Among those special features is not, as far as we know, the episode of the Joystiq Podcast guest hosted by Mega64's Rocco Botte, an embarrassing oversight for both parties. But feel free to put the DVD in your computer, download the episode and pretend it is so.

  • Mega64 makes Marvel vs. Capcom 3 trailer

You might think you're pumped for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but Mega64 has been pumped for a whole decade. Just to prove it, the group has released a handmade trailer it created way back in its high school days. Okay, so the guys didn't really make a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 trailer in high school, but the one they made to look that way is pretty funny anyway. Also, seriously, Carmen Sandiego in a fighting game? How come no one has thought of that before? Check it out after the break.

  • Mega64 and Tommy Tallarico present: Gamer Warz 2

    05.03.2010

We really think Tommy Tallarico missed his calling in life by becoming a composer. If the first Gamer Warz and this followup are any indication, the man was meant for comedy. Gamer Warz 2 (watch it after the break) is a collaboration between Tallarico and lulz-factory Mega64 that really gets to the heart of the elitism and console preferences of the gaming community at large in a surprisingly civil and educated way. Don't get it twisted: we certainly love Tallarico's music, but this may be the funniest video we've seen in a long time.

  • Mega64 shows off the Nintendo 3DS's revolutionary tech

We're not quite sure what we like best about the new video from comedy goldmine Mega64 after the break: the proposed lifelike tech behind the upcoming Nintendo 3DS (we've got our fingers crossed!) or that Korn is currently recording a new song for Haze 2. It's probably the Haze 2 thing. Regardless, it's a great spoof on an upcoming gaming handheld we know virtually nothing about, which kinda makes the handheld the easiest thing to make fun of right now. Besides Haze, of course. • Mega64 works up a sweat with motion controls

    by
    David Hinkle

    04.02.2010

Mega64's latest video (past the break) highlights some very real concerns about motion-based gaming, albeit in a very ham-fisted way. Gamers looking to veg out in front of the TV and blow some junk up really aren't the target demographic for motion-controlled games, but will likely get pressured into playing by their friends and family -- "motion enablers," if you will. Sure, crushing a calorie or two is good for the old body, but sweating and being out of breath sucks. Out-of-shape, poor displays of humanity aside, not everyone is so put off by the idea of, like, moving around and junk. Which camp do you fall in with? Pumped for the next wave of motion gaming or are you already taking a nap on the couch? [Via Go Nintendo]

  • Mega64: Indie Man is a source of hope for indie devs

    03.23.2010

There aren't many who stand tall and, against all odds, crusade for truth and righteousness in video gaming. That job is best left in the capable hands of Indie Man, the latest concoction of super-squad Mega64. In an attempt to help struggling indie developers battle against the bigger, well-financed studios, he intervenes when it seems all hope is lost and sabotages the big studios in the name of indie justice. It's darkest just before dawn, and all of that. And, in the spirit of his unending generosity, the Joystiq staff has compiled its own list of scenarios where Indie Man's unique skillset could help benefit the smaller fish in the industry pond. Check 'em out right after the video past the break.

    03.16.2010

Mega64 gets back to its roots in the troupe's latest video, enlisting the aid of John and Jane Q. Public to create another minute and a half of comedy based on The Beatles: Rock Band. You're probably asking yourself how the trio can recreate the full British pop quartet. To answer that, we offer this: through the aid of a surprise guest, of course! Head past the break to see who. We're pretty sure you'll never guess who it is. [Thanks, Brock]

  • Mega64 explains the appeal and letdown of Sonic ... the restaurant

    03.01.2010

If you were to ask us what to expect from most fast food joints, we'd probably tell you to look inside your garbage can and basically expect that -- but, y'know, inside of your stomach. We don't know; it's all the same pre-processed, assembly line garbage to us and we manage to successfully avoid it for the most part. But the Mega64 dudes instead find themselves in an almost perpetual, Groundhog Day-like loop when it comes to one particular establishment: Sonic. Even though each trip usually makes the guys wish they never went in the first place, the thought of returning oddly enough fills them with hope that things will be different each and every time, only to suffer the grim realization again. It's such a departure for Mega64, but we can't help but feel like there's some kind of correlation to a current gaming news item in here -- so we thought we'd post this to see what you all think they're talking about. While we think on it, head past the break and check out the video.

  • Mega64: Heavy Rain makes you cry (a lot)

    02.23.2010

Whether it's through its potent pixel combinations or the fact that the game regularly gives you purple nurples (not really ... we hope), Heavy Rain is bound to make you cry. Don't believe us? Well, would you believe the talented and scholarly chaps at Mega64? Yeah, we thought so! The troupe's latest contribution posits that Heavy Rain is so sad, you won't even crack a smile if you go to Disneyland after playing it. Certainly, one must keep in mind that this is simply one man's experience, but it doesn't necessarily rule out Heavy Rain as a tear-inducing descent into a bottomless well of sadness. Figure out the case of The Crying Amusement Park Attendee for yourself by watching the video past the break.

  • Miyamoto recognized with prestigious BAFTA Fellowship

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced that it'll be awarding Shigeru Miyamoto with the storied BAFTA Fellowship award, which is "the highest accolade the Academy can bestow on an individual for their creative work." Miyamoto will receive the award in a ceremony next month. It's a pretty high honor for his work in film and television, which includes this Mega64 video and this old kids' television series. Oh wait, no -- it's actually part of the British Academy's Video Games Awards, and it is honoring him as the creator of Donkey Kong, Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. That makes much more sense. Nobody should be giving anyone awards for the Super Mario Bros. movie.

  • Mega64 reveals the true origins of Dante's Inferno

    02.19.2010

Mega64's latest lampooning is a bit more historical than the troupe's other videos. Posted just after the jump is a video reenaction of the moment of Dante's Inferno's inception. We'd thought that a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Classic Literature major had planted the idea-seed in an EA executive's mind -- apparently, said gardening was actually performed by Ba'al Zebûb himself. Check out the video after the jump -- though, if you're employed at a place which frowns upon the use of the word "boners," you can consider said video NSFW.

  • Mega64 talks Mass Effect 2 sex censorship

    02.09.2010

We're pretty sure that the new Mass Effect 2-centric video from Mega64 that you'll find after the break is pretty funny. The crew seems to be grilling everyday citizens on censorship, specifically relating to all the xenofornication going down aboard the Normandy. We say "pretty sure" and "seems" because ... well, we can't watch this sort of thing with the sound on because it makes us too uncomfortable. There, we said it out loud. That means we also have no idea if the language in the video is safe for work, since we can't hear it. Let's just play it safe and assume it's not, OK?

Once again, Mega64 has allowed us to look through a window into an alternate universe, where the Game Developer's Conference isn't just a series of panels, roundtables and presentations about recent trends in video game development. Rather, in their world, it's a series of panels, roundtables and presentations about recent trends in video game development, held in the middle of a non-stop all-night Jersey Shore-esque club party. Check out the video after the jump to see the beautiful vision we'll longingly hearken back to after sitting through three hours of "Death and the Duality of Man: How Games Make Us Rethink the Concept of Morality and Mortality." • Anything Bayonetta can do, Mega64 does better

    01.07.2010

We were unbelievers at the beginning of this new Bayonetta ad (after the break), in which Mega64's Rocco Botte insisted that he could emulate -- nay -- top any of the titular action star's moves. But he's definitely shooting bullets with his feet and he promises repeatedly that his hair is a demon, so now whose face has got egg on it? That's right: Ours. ... Hey, he wouldn't lie about his hair being a demon, would he? No, of course not. Who would lie about that? We're probably just being paranoid.

  • Mega64 makes its own mind-blowing Final Fantasy XIII announcement

    12.02.2009

When Square Enix unveiled the English-language release date of Final Fantasy XIII, Joystiq commenter Chedder dared to ask the one question on everyone's mind. "Is it me or has the host of this video been drenched by a douche nozzle before they turned the cameras on?" Mega64 has the answer: yes. Mega64's parody announcement one-ups Square Enix's hyperbolic infomercial trailer with hilarious real-world "interviews." Oh, and if you're like Anemos, you'll probably love the ending. Check it out after the break.

  • Mega64 uses Scribblenauts technology to change the internet forever

Being a blog on the internet, we're big believers in the power of commenters. Whether it's the beloved "First!" or the always refreshing "Slow news day, huh?," each and every person who enters a string of text into a comments field and hits submit has undoubtedly changed the course of history ... forever. Mega64, the comedic troupe with a taste for video games, has finally realized this and, in combination with the item-spawning gameplay of Scribblenauts, has created something that will change the internet forever. We'd go into more detail, but then we'd be taking away from the surprise. So, head past the break and see what's in store for the future of the intertron.

  • Mega64 goes into the ring with Punch-Out!!

    09.08.2009

Admittedly, the connection to video games in the Mega64 video we've embedded after the break is threadbare at best. Sure, it's a take off on Punch-Out!! in theory, but it's basically just a guy yelling at people (not that we have a problem with that). Even though it's a bit of a stretch, we're happy that we get to post it, if only so you can watch as it devolves into madness at the end. Madness.

  • Mega64 shills for GameTap

    by

    07.17.2009

Classic game subscription service GameTap has enlisted Mega64 to create a series of ads, which are currently running on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block. The two ads Mega64 posted on Youtube do an admirable job of explaining what GameTap offers, while also suggesting that either GameTap users are complete jerkwads, or that GameTap turns you into a jerkwad. The lesson isn't that you should avoid GameTap -- it's that you should only play it alone, where all of your friends and loved ones are safe from the dangerous levels of jerk radiation you'll emit. Check out the commercials after the break.
