This week's edition of Microsoft's rolling Deals With Gold promotion is aimed at variety. From the bleak gloom of post-apocalyptic Moscow to Pixar's sunny vision of a child's bedroom, the sale has something for everyone. On the gloomy side of things, both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are now available for the Xbox One at $16.74 a piece. Those wishing to see the entire dark saga can purchase the likewise discounted $33.16 Metro Redux Bundle which includes both remastered shooters in a single package. Games based on Disney properties form the core of the Xbox 360 discounts. More than a dozen games, ranging from rebuilt platforming classics like Castle of Illusion to movie tie-ins like Cars, are available at half price. The Saints Row 4 Season Pass is also half off, but even more importantly, Saints Row 4 itself has received a 70 percent discount to a price of $10.49. As always, Deals With Gold discounts are only available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. These discounts are valid now through December 8. • UK takes Metro Redux to the top of the charts

Metro Redux - we can't believe they didn't go with Metro Revival - is the new UK No. 1 this week, overthrowing Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition after one week of glory. Meanwhile, Madden NFL 15 debuts 6th, which isn't bad given which version of football it is. The PS4, Xbox One and PC bundle of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light is Deep Silver's first No. 1 of the year, but it's far from the first remaster to lead the way in 2014. Upgraded and enhanced versions of Tomb Raider, Diablo 3 and The Last of Us had already scored five chart-topping weeks between them before Metro Redux came along, and we could see a few other remasters at the top before the year's close. In honor of the remasters, we're going to re-release our idea of music videos below the break for these posts. This week and with Metro in mind, we'll keep it Russian with 2000s duo t.A.T.u, who infamously caused great controversy with their awful capitalization.

  • Next game from Metro series developer 'less linear, more sandbox'

The next game from Metro 2033 developer 4A Games will shift away from a linear progression and offer players a more freeform approach to gameplay, studio CTO Oles Shishkovstov told Eurogamer this week. "For the game we are working on now, our designers have shifted to a more sand-box-style experience - less linear but still hugely story-driven," Shishkovstov said. "I will not go into details, but it requires some work from programmers as well. Also, we are improving graphics in very different aspects, like recently we did a physically-based global ambient occlusion (instead of local, like SSAO). I will not talk about PBR (physically-based rendering) here, because here we are at the stage when artists are still adapting their mentality to it." Shishkovstov did not reveal whether the undisclosed project is a new entry in the studio's Metro series. The visually upgraded franchise compilation Metro Redux shipped this week for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC platforms. [Image: 4A Games]

Been above ground so long I hardly knew the place/Gee it's good to be back home/Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my gas mask/Honey disconnect the phone/I'm back in the U.S.S.R metro/You don't know how lucky you are boy/Back in the U.S.S.R. metro There is nothing quite so unsettling as the Xbox controller left bumper button when you're playing Metro Redux. Sneaking over irradiated pools of stagnant water in 2033 Moscow, the left bumper is what you press to wipe grime off your gas mask. One careful wipe might help you see a fallen scavenger ripe with spare ammunition. Another might have your vision obscured just long enough for a giant, mutated pig bear to run up and eat you. Joystiq Streams is diving into Metro Redux, the newly revamped collection of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light from 4A Games, at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. Metro Redux brings remastered, post-apocalyptic Moscow to North America on August 26, and Europe on August 29. Described as a "true director's cut" of Metro 2033 and its sequel Metro: Last Light, the 2-in-1 package will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The boxed compilation is priced $50, and both games will be available individually to download at $25 a pop. Linux and SteamOS versions are due to release later this year. Amongst all the gameplay tweaks and additions, Metro Redux is headlined by a reworking of Metro 2033 in the 4A Engine iteration used for Last Light. Dev 4A Games has given Last Light a visual touch-up too, while all the game's Season Pass content is included in Redux. • Joystiq Weekly: Amplitude is funded, Wolfenstein review, video previews and more

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Amplitude fans just discovered a new favorite month of the year, as Harmonix's Kickstarter for a Sony-exclusive continuation of the lane-changing rhythm game cleared its goal within the final day of its funding campaign. Regardless of the original Amplitude's quality, the button-tapper's fan base is pretty niche - if games catering to slivers of the broader gaming population can find the funding they need via Kickstarter, it makes us wonder what other dream sequels we could get away with. There are always the down-and-out series begging for continuations like Shenmue 3, but that almost feels too obvious. What if we launched a Kickstarter for a team to continue an established property? We could start a campaign to glue the pieces of Wipeout developer SCE Studio Liverpool back together, then launch another to cover the resurrected studio's costs to make a new F-Zero! What's that you say? F-Zero is owned by Nintendo and is definitely not a property we can just give out to whoever we wish? Well, we can launch another Kickstarter to fund a protective shield until SCE finishes the game, and then Captain Falcon can finally get back on track with his career! On second thought, maybe we shouldn't take swings at the legal beehive. We'll have to think our F-Zero revival strategy over, but until then, we've got the cliff notes from this week's news and content ready for you. Details about the Xbox One's June update, reviews for Transistor and Wolfenstein: The New Order and video previews for Driveclub and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Morder - it's all ready for you after the break!

Metro 2033 and its sequel, Metro Last Light, are coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and SteamOS later this summer, with a year's worth of additional work done by European developer 4A Games. Dubbed a "true director's cut," Metro Redux collects and rebuilds the atmospheric survival games with an emphasis on fidelity, performance, and consistency.
