Welcome to Growing Up Geek, an ongoing feature where we take a look back at our youth and tell stories of growing up to be the nerds that we are. Today, we have a special guest: tech journalist and co-founder of Netbooknews, Nicole Scott. Snow Day set it all off. Seventh grade, and already I knew. In Canada everything shuts down when the snow is deep, especially school. But I was determined to go. They had a better computer than we had at home. I was going to get my allotted half hour, no matter what. I made my poor parents drive me to school anyway, and after all that, we were promptly sent away. And so my disastrous love affair with technology began.
One Shots: Mechanopeep is just fun to say
A World of Warcraft pet is taking center stage on today's One Shots, thanks to Massively reader Nicole: This is my Dwarf Priest Marguarita with her Mechanopeep which looks just like the Red Mechanostrider mount. This pet can be yours for 40 Champions Seals from the Gnomeregan Quartermaster at the Argent Tournament in Icecrown. Its on of my favorite pets in the game. Now it's your turn! Sony Ericsson rumor mill churns out "Nicole" and "Shinobu"
The Sony Ericsson rumor mill has been churning things out at a wild rate in the last days and weeks, leading some (that some includes us) to speculate that a product launch (or two!) may be just around the corner. The latest fodder for our eyes to feast upon -- from left to right in the picture -- is the candybar codenamed "Nicole" and the slider called "Shinobu." The Shinobu is rumored to pack such niceties as HSDPA, 2.4 inch QVGA screen, 2 megapixel cam, and what appears to be a forward-facing camera into a svelte half-inch thick package. Nicole is touted to be the first handset under the Sony Ericsson / Sagem partnership and brings a 2 inch QCIF screen, 2 megapixel camera, and 3G (no word on flavor) also packed in a half-inch thin handset. Both pics smack of fan renders, so we will just have to cross our fingers and hope that Sony Ericsson spills the beans on these two in the near term.[Via Just Another Mobile Phone Blog, thanks Michael]
