Side-scrolling mech shooter Gigantic Army will launch February 5 on PC for $5.99. Developed by three-man Japanese indie studio and Satazius creator Astro Port, the side-scroller is described as an homage to mech shooters of the 16-bit era, such as Cybernator and Mech Warrior. Gigantic Army has players taking control of a manned combat robot known as "GMR-34 SALADIN," customizing a set of explosive, projectile and plasma weapons across six stages. The game includes four difficulty modes and 12 "mid and end level" bosses. The developer is working to bring the game to Linux, and is currently vying for a spot on Steam via Greenlight. The game is published by Nyu Media, which announced its localization plans for Gigantic Army in addition to other Japanese indie games like the crowdfunded Yatagarasu: Attack on Cataclysm in October 2013.

Indie game localization studio and publisher Nyu Media announced a lineup of translated Japanese games that are slated to premiere throughout this winter and next spring for PC platforms, following up on its recent Kickstarter success. Nyu Media will release a trio of titles from Satazius developer Astro Port, including the Cybernator-inspired mech combat game Gigantic Army and the shoot-'em-ups Armed Seven and Supercharged Robot Vulkaiser. The studio will additionally produce a Steam version of Souvenir Circ's beat-'em-up Croixleur, which will feature expanded content not found in the original release. Nyu Media rounds out its release lineup with Yatagarasu: Attack on Cataclysm, a crowdfunded 2D fighter developed by former King of Fighters series staffers. Release dates for Nyu Media's latest projects have not been announced.

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm, the enhanced version of indie PC fighter Yatagarasu, has bested its Indiegogo fundraising goal of $68,000 by almost an additional $30,000 as of press time. As a result, Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will launch on PC "around February 2014" with GGPO netcode for online battles, a new song and new moves/voice acting for the game's eight returning characters. By having met its original goal of $68,000 in the first place, the game will also feature two new characters, an official English localization with "dynamic commentary" from well-known fighting game community personalities such as James Chen and UltraDavid, story rewrites and an arcade release for the Japanese version of the game, among other things. There's still about 30 hours left to contribute to the campaign and receive one of a multitude of reward tiers, otherwise prepare to deal a $15 combo to your wallet when the game is released next year.

Indie publishing partner and localization studio Nyu Media seeks funding for Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm, a 2D fighting game developed by a team of former SNK staffers. Originally released to western audiences back in April, Yatagarasu promises "a fighting game that everyone can enjoy by creating a simple structure and straightforward gameplay without the clutter of lots of unnecessary features." The enhanced crowdfunded version will boast a dynamic commentary system, and will offer at least 10 playable characters at launch. Yatagarasu's funding goal is set at $68,000, though Indiegogo's flexible funding system ensures that the developers will receive all pledges, regardless of whether the team meets its goal. Pledges will fund additional characters, dual-language commentary, and an English localization, among other features.

Or should we say "Nyu" partnership: Capcom has inked a deal with Nyu Media, an intermediary localization company that specializes in Japanese indie titles, to bring (guess what) Japanese indie games to North American and European PCs through the usual stable of digital distribution platforms. The first indie title to be released under Capcom's watchful eye will be Satazius, a "retro chic arcade shooter" from Japanese development studio ASTRO PORT. The shmup will launch on December 20 via Steam, Direct-2-Drive, GamersGate, and "other major digital distribution services" for $5.99 USD. A quick peek at Nyu Media's site reveals a few more titles currently slated for "early 2012:" Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, Ether Vapor Remaster, Fighting Fairy (working title), eXceed 2nd - Vampire REX and eXceed 3rd - Jade Penetrate Black Package. Wow. We look forward to a little Japanese absurdity shaking up the western indie-gaming scene.
