As we all sit around our Basic Campfires, caught rapt by breathless anticipation, let's take a moment and celebrate the upcoming release of Diablo III with a funny machinima. Olibith created the Gigolo Witch Test using the the first custom machinima tool made for the game. While that might not sound like a big deal, that makes this Gigolo Witch Test the first full-blown, tooled machinima for Diablo III. (That's why we featured it on WoW Moviewatch back in the day.) So here's hoping we won't be so sad and lonely for much longer, and we all get to enjoy the silky-smooth launch of Diablo III. Evil has returned! 1.2 million WoW players are getting Diablo 3 for free thanks to the Annual Pass. You can get prepared for the evil with WoW Insider's launch coverage. From the lore of Diablo, to the important blue posts and the basics of Diablo gameplay, we'll get you on the inside track for the return of evil.

Spoiler Warning: There's MoP footage herein. If you're trying to remain unspoiled, don't watch this video. It looks like Olibith has been exploring a certain misty new world. But he's been kind enough to fire off a few postcards to those of us on the mainland, letting us know exactly what's up. Olibith's smooth presentation of Mists of Pandaria, as well his excellent choice in music, does a great job of conveying the landscape. And of course, you get to see the big surprise about the landscape by the end of the video. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Who knew? It turns out that Anonymous is largely made up of gnomes. That's probably not a surprise to any of us who spent real time with gnomish engineering. With all the recent talk of SOPA, PIPA, and Megaupload, the gnome members of the hacktivist community finally decided to take action. Working through Olibith, these gnomes have announced Operation GnoVibrator Fury. They are Anonymous. They are pretty small. They do not forgive. And most of the time, they do not forget. This is a super-short video (see what I did there?), but it's a lot of fun. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Work warning: There's some language in this video, some scary and violent scenes, but it's mostly comedy. Just be prepared. Wow. It's been a long time since we've seen a video like The Hills Have Eggs. Created by Olibith, this movie features an amazing cast of voice actors including Jesse Cox, Shockdingo, Nathalie Berggren, and Genna Bain. The music is by Cirkle, and the sound design is by Caruu. Sound like a big list of talent? It surely is, and the results show in the final product. Nominally a movie about some lost gnomes and the tragic results, The Hills Have Eggs shows off some of the most mind-blowing animation we've seen in a long time. The acting is fantastic, and the dialogue is creative and hilarious. Everything about this video reaffirms it as a professional, amazing movie. While I love all genres of machinima, it's a breath of fresh air to see something like this. I'll admit that I was worrying this kind of skillfully produced, cinematic machinima had been lost from the scene. I'm glad that Olibith has proven me wrong in spades. BSTV is Baron Soosdon's offering regarding his time in the Cataclysm beta. While there, he took copious amounts of footage from both the goblin and worgen starting areas and then coalesced it into this guided tour. With a little assistance from machinima friends like Legs, Cranius, Olibith, and Paus, Baroon Soosdon has created a fun, amusing romp through some of Cataclysm's best features. A catastrophe is coming Kezan, and it will force hundreds of goblins to find shelter and solace in foreign lands. And while this could be misery, the wise and profit-minded goblin will take advantage of Azeroth's wonderful grub and rife opportunity -- or at least, that's the premise of Gree D2 by Olibith, with voice actor Jesse Cox. Olibith issues some special thanks to his friend Sharon Davidson. Gree D2 is one hell of an impressive machinima. For all that it's short, Olibith packed some amazing graphics in a very brief time. The script was hilarious and fantastically executed by Cox. My hat's off to the gentlemen. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • Olibith writes guide to creating machinima

Have you been interested in learning how people like Olibith create the amazing visual pieces that they do? Well, Olibith is now working on a series that will give you a guided tour on operating WoW Model Viewer and creating your own machinima. You can find it over at GameCreds. If you don't know Olibith, he's the guy who did Beware of Baby B. He knows what he's talking about. You'll find this series enlightening on the ways of the mysterious machinimator, especially if you haven't fired up WoW Model Viewer before. It's a fascinating look into how Olibith creates his characters and animates them. I'm looking forward to later entries into the series and am already planning on creating a video using only the techniques Olibith describes. I hope between Olibith's guides and Wowcrendor's Wowdirectors.com, we get to see a new wave of machinimators creating WoW films. It's a unique method of telling fan stories, and it's always been one of my favorite things about the WoW community. Good luck to everyone who takes this opportunity to learn! • WoW Moviewatch: Beware of the Baby B

Michael Gray is still feeling a bit under the weather, and I have heard no news on the status of the puppy, so! Today's offering is another of the winners of the Alienware Rise to Power contest! Beware of the Baby B is a charming little three minute story by Olibith, who we've featured before numerous times on WoW Moviewatch. Much like the other Rise to Power winners, it's a pretty jaw-dropping movie in terms of effects and production. Beware of the Baby B is a tale about a baby beholder with a big appetite, and what happens when said appetite gets entirely out of control. The visual effects are, as always with Olibith's work, really well done -- there were only a couple of lines of voice work in the movie, but really that's all it needed. I liked the variation in shots from the eyes of critters, and the eyes of Baby B -- I've never seen a non-combat pet look quite as horrifying as it did here! The loading screen gag in the middle also cracked me up. While I'm used to seeing... spicier stuff from Olibith, this departure from the usual entertaining norm was an awfully sweet, endearing little film, with music taken from the game that suited the whole piece quite nicely. As with the other winners we've highlighted so far, it's immediately obvious why the film won. Congrats to Olibith -- now take that fancy computer and make us some more movies to watch! • WoW Moviewatch: La Terroriste

I'm a Ralph Bakshi fan from way back, but I still don't know how I got a Wizards vibe from a WoW-based sci-fi flick. Still, I got an unmistakably Bakshi-esque feel from Olibith's entry into the BitFilm Festival 2009 Machinima Award, a short film titled La Terroriste. It's a brief movie, and fairly odd. It's one of those movies where I know what's going on, I can understand enough High School French to get the vibe of the language, and I'm still kind of like "whoah." La Terroriste definitely has a surreal vibe. I'd try and explain the plot, but i really think that any transcription of it would lesson the effect.Overall, though, I totally dug the video. It's a lot of fun, and it doesn't drag on longer that its material can support. If you like the video, you can swing by the festival and vote for it. World of Workcraft is also appearing in the same contest. You do have to register, but it doesn't take long to do that. We've featured both World of Workcraft and La Terroriste before, but it's worth another look while the BitFilm Festival is still taking place. Interested in the wide world of machinima? After the good Baron Soosdon worked with Olibith on Never Stay Tuned 4, he continued to chase an interesting idea. Warriors Dance is the result of that idea. According to the Baron's description of Warriors Dance, the dance club Shortchange was created after the liberation of the gnomish people from the traitorous Alliance. However, things get a little different by the end of opening night.Baron Soosdon has created another entertaining, fun location, though this one is wildly different from the paradise he put together for Happy Up Here. I think if the Shortchange were an actual, functioning dance space is Azeroth, you could probably find dozens of Alliance jostling to get in. I continue to be amazed at how well Soosdon pieces his musical choice together with the video he puts on screen. The rhythm, words, and general vibe of the music matches the thriving, vibrant graphics. Ultimately, this video was awesome, and is going to be one I replay frequently. In case the embedded video doesn't work out for you, you can check out a few different streams on the Baron's blog. Note: Not everything in this video is safe for work.Olibith's Never Stay Tuned series is more than just a collection of videos. The original series has come to be an institution, filled with fun, glory, and legend! Olibith has created the finest collection of parody and culture references in the machinima world. He's now back with the last installment Never Stay Tuned 4.The guest list featured in Never Stay Tuned 4 is a wonderful nod to the work Olibith has done. You'll see work by Baron Soosdon, Ian Beckman, the AFK pl@yers, Pinkhair, and Goldskin. Each has brought unique aspect to the work, and the vast collaboration has created something epic. You'll probably recognize the unique styles, but there's an itemized credit at the end. Never Stay Tuned 4 was as hilarious as the first ones in the series. Now, if you didn't like those previous videos, then chances are that the fourth installment won't radically change your mind. There's quite a few jokes and gags in the video that are a little rough or tawdry, and a few spots of nudity and violence, which will also affect your opinion. The entire video is incredibly well done, with absolutely amazing graphic work. Go to the effort to check it out, but take your time do so: the video clocks in over 18 minutes. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! More Hallow's End spirit to end your week, in the form of a little horror flick called The Little White Poney Inn from Olibith. It's a silent horror film that was originally made in French for Le Grand Prix MMO Machinima in 2007, which won the grand prize. (Anyone surprised? This guy eats awards for breakfast.) This version contains English subtitles over the French dialog cards (subtitles for the subtitles?) and a dialed-down "old film effect" compared to the version he entered into the contest. For this year's version of the same contest, Olibith won a finalist spot for The Noob Song.) If you like to be spooked, you'll have fun with this film and I have to admit that the ending made me laugh. Oh, and someone please go give the guy a chair so he can get back to work! This is a hard post to make. I've grown so fond of the commentary and insults that it's difficult for me to tell you that today is my last day at WoW Insider. I've received an opportunity to work in machinima that will allow me to help machinimators in a whole new way. However, my replacement, Natalie Mootz, is an excellent blogger and I'm sure she'll make you proud! I'll miss you guys.Instead of being overly sappy, I thought I'd do a top five list of my favorite machinimas and scandals: Here Without You - This love story is three and a half years old, but has stood the test of time. First of May - This extremely not-safe-for-work video caused a riot on Valentine's Day! Thaenor Chronicles: Chapter One - The only movie where I've been accused of ruining a PR campaign. Tunasushi - The time I accidentally blogged a movie with questionable subliminal images. How to Paladin: Insanity Remix - I honestly have no words to even describe this video ... 9 Crimes - A bonus video that was blogged before I got to WoW Insider, but touched me nonetheless. (Warning: This is a double whammy. It's an Olibith film, which means it may offend you, and it also has English subtitles, so you'll have to watch carefully.)The WeGame machinima contest closed days ago, but on Friday, September 4th 5th, we'll finally know the results of the contest. In the meantime, the highlighting of some of the best videos will continue! Interestingly enough, with Olibith receiving the help of machinimator Phil Rice, this is the first combination World of Warcraft and Mass Effect machinima that I've seen.Le Terroriste is exactly what you'd expect from Olibith, which is to say that there's some off-color humor that some may not like. The year is 2139 and the crew of the Normandy spaceship is on a mission that will soon be struck by tragedy. If you're a gnome, well ... I'm sorry! When I wrote about the Warcraftmovies Synergy contest for machinima three days ago, I had no idea just how close of a fight it would be. The results are in and it was literally a battle to the death. Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair beat Martin Falch by a whopping three votes, with final scores of 299 to 296. Over the next few days, we'll be looking at the winners and giving requested feedback to some of the ones that didn't place.Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair's machinima followed along with the Busted script, but there were multiple little touches that really made the film. In addition to weaving his 3d magic throughout, Pinkhair also used a third party program, Crazytalk, to animate the lips of one of the characters. Caruu mastered the sound, while he, Drewbie, Olibith, and Selserene voice acted. There are also tributes to the great Shepiwot, Drewbie's character from The Grind, the Robber Baron of Warsong Gulch, and the cast of Snacky's Journal. Even I played a part in it by ruining their PR campaign -- or so they say! Try to keep in mind that neither script was good, so the contenders didn't have a lot to work with in the way of variation. Now that it's over, I hope that Warcraftmovies will use a different method for their contest next time![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! What you are about to see will amaze you. In what is shaping up to be the most intense Player vs. Player battle that WoW machinima has ever seen, two contestants are facing off for your vote. The Warcraftmovies Synergy contest entrants were given the choice of two (absolutely horrible) scripts, which they had to follow to the letter, but were allowed to add their own special touches to. The result is an epic fight to the death.Though there are indeed six entries, most votes are going to our main two contenders. In one corner, we have Martin Falch, responsible for the incredible feature-length film, Tales of the Past 3, which just crossed one million downloads in seven months! He chose to work with the script, The Best Kept Secret of the Horde. In the other corner we have the dream team of Baron Soosdon and Pinkhair, with help from Selserene, Olibith, Caruu, and Drewbie. Their chosen script was Busted. Only one contestant will go home with the $1500 USD Warcraftmovies contract.Voting ends on Thursday, July 31st and the winners will be announced the following day. Check out the videos and help decide on who will win in this tight race!

Few World of Warcraft machinimas stand the test of time. Here Without You is a great example at over three years old, yet still manages to touch us today. The Demise may have just been recently released, but the story is incredibly emotional and will hopefully resonate for years to come. It revolves around a girl who is alone in the world, until she discovers a "portal" to love, happiness, and ultimately, loss. It brought a tear to this blogger's eyes.I blogged about Olibith's Worldwide Invitational machinima contest-sweeping video, The Bountiful Chest, yesterday. Today, I want to show you the video that should have won. While there's nothing wrong with the winning entry, this one just seems far superior in terms of subject matter and effort. Surgee put a tremendous amount of work into The Demise, yet promised himself that if he didn't win, he would give up. I, for one, think that he should continue![Thanks, #machinima on Quakenet IRC!]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...
