Oh snap! This is exactly what Nokia needs right now -- another cheap Android handset to gobble up its wallet-friendly stronghold. What we're looking at here is Orange's oddly named San Francisco, a £99 ($154) pay-as-you-go Eclair handset crafted by ZTE. Much like its humble sibling Racer, Orange's 4.6-ounce offering is loaded with a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset, 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, and MicroSD expansion. Yet for the same price, the San Francisco somehow comes with a larger 3.5-inch 480 x 800 OLED capacitive touchscreen. This sure sounds like a tempting deal, but don't whip out your credit card just yet -- we'll give you a yay or nay once we've seen how the phone fares in real life. For now, check out the official promo video after the break.

Maybe our circadian clock is completely busted, but six months does not "shortly" make. If you'll recall (we're asking a lot here, we know), O2 briefly led us on to believe that a prepaid iPhone 3G was just around the corner, and it has taken a full half year to finally see that come to fruition. As of now, the Apple Store UK is selling its latest handset in 8GB / 16GB flavors for £342.50 ($513) / £391.45 ($587) off contract. The iPhone 3G Pay & Go plan affords buyers 12 months of unlimited browsing and WiFi (in the UK) so long as you add a minimum of £10 after activating the handset. Flippin' finally, right?[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

We couldn't deny that the ASUS-built O2 Xda Zest was a real, live, breathing mobile, but at long last the carrier has made the phone available for purchase. Hailed as the first O2 Xda to be offered on a Pay&Go prepaid plan (as well as a traditional postpaid plan), the Windows Mobile 6.1-based unit can be acquired on November 17th for £249.99 ($392) with the Pay&Go option or as low as free on certain Pay Monthly contracts. As a refresher, this one brings a 2.8-inch display, a free fortnight of the CoPilot Sat Nav software, a 3-megapixel camera, multimedia player, WiFi and HSDPA.

  • O2 briefly shows off prepaid pricing for iPhone 3G

It's a far cry from free, so just how badly do you want to avoid that postpaid contract? O2 had posted pricing for the iPhone 3G when purchased through its Pay & Go prepaid program, showing £300 (about $591) for the 8 gigger and a brutal £360 (about $709) for the 16, though the information was mysteriously pulled just moments later and replaced with a promise that details (the very same details they've already leaked, we presume) would be available "shortly." Though those sticker prices will eat holes through even the mightiest of wallets, buyers will take some comfort in the knowledge that they include six months of WiFi access, after which it'll run £10 (about $20) a month.[Via TUAW]

  • iPhone 3G free* in UK with O2

*8GB iPhone 3G on £45 and £75 monthly tariffs. £99 on O2's £35 tariff and new £30 tariff. All tariffs include unlimited WiFi, Visual Voicemail, and reduced international roaming under an 18-month contract. Heh, not exactly free but still not bad. Certainly better than the situation when the iPhone was originally launched in the UK. O2 is also offering the iPhone 3G under a Pay & Go deal without the 18 month contract. Details of that, however, must still be worked out before the July 11th launch date.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Read -- Pay Monthly Read -- Pay & Go
