HP Pavilion Elite m9150f PC handles HD DVD, OTA TV
Not pleased with any of HP's other offerings? Fret not, as we've got yet another one coming your way. The Pavilion Elite m9150f PC comes ready to handle those HD DVD / PVR duties, and it may even withstand a e-mail or two. As with HP's other newly announced media PCs, the m9100 series is set to ship this month and start at $1,159.
Intel cuts prices on quad-core chips
Intel is giving a lot of cheap speed-freaks cause for celebration today, as the company has just announced some deep price cuts to its line of quad-core CPUs (and a few other price snips here and there). The chipmaker has knocked down the price of the 2.93GHz Core 2 Quad QZ6800 with a 1066MHz FSB to $999, the 2.66 GHz Q6700 to $530, and the 2.4GHz Q6600 to $300 (shaving off almost half of its price). With these new drops, the Q6600 has become the cheapest quad-core chip on the market, thus making chumps of the people who bought it a month ago, but those who've been waiting for the cuts will be glad they did. Additionally, Intel has reduced the cost of some of its Core 2 Duo processors, taking around $20 off of the cost of the 2.2GHz E4500 and the 2GHz E4400. Sony's Core 2 Quad (yes, quad) Vaio R Master: answers "who's your daddy?"
Looks like Sony is first from the gate with a consumer PC wrapped around Intel's new Core 2 Quad processor. Damn straight Jack, Sony's Vaio R Master split-tower, flagship desktop now sports Intel's beefiest of consumer procs: the 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600. That, on top of a Blu-ray Disc drive, up to 3GB of DDR2-667 memory and 3TB of SATA disk, and nVidia Quadro FX 1500 graphics makes this one smokin' fast box. Only thing is, a fully spec'd -- and we mean fully -- model VGC-RM900CPS with 24-inch, 1920x1200 LCD will set you back ¥995,800 (about $8,241) when these hit Japan February 10th. Still interested? Intel's Core 2 Quad launched -- right in time for Macworld
Intel just spat out their first Core 2 Quad branded processors right on schedule and just hours before Macworld... hmm. As the name implies, Intel packs in 4 cores per processor. Three new quad-core processors were released today, one for desktops and two for entry-level servers. The 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600 for desktops replaces the E6700 Core 2 Duo at the top-end of their consumer-bound procs and will demand $851 when purchased in bulk. Servers get their bump with the 2.13GHz and 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Xeon 3200 series based on the "Kentsfield" core. The X3220 (2.4GHz) is priced at $851while the X3210 (2.13GHz) hits in quantity for $690.
