I am Forsaken by RedEye Lobine won second place runner-up in the BlizzCon 2010 machinima contest. It is the story of a Gilnean apothecary whose life became devastated by a series of tragedies. Seeking to find a new start in life, he decided to move to nearby Lordaeron. You can imagine how that turned out. RedEye obviously put quite a bit of work into the composition of this piece, and I'm glad to see it did well at the contest. It was a very tough competition this year, with many fantastic videos. It can be tough to tell a good Forsaken story, but obviously the judges felt Lobine pulled it off. Congratulations! Interested in the wide world of machinima? We first posted about RedEyeLobine's Frontline Preview back in March of 2009. Man, how time flies. We knew at the time this video would be pretty awesome, with some impressive graphics, a fun metal soundtrack, and lots of badass action. The great news is that RedEye's completed the movie and released the final version of Frontline. This is a hell of a video and gets me pretty pumped to go dust off my warrior and kick some tail. RedEye hints that there's a storyline which he'll develop in a later movie. But even without the story, the general gist is pretty clear. Basically, there are these two warriors. And there's this tail that requires kicking. The warriors then set about kicking that tail. There's a brief moment where things seem dark, but then reinforcements appear, and the tail-kicking recommences. Also, metal plays in the back ground, which is fairly mandatory when a pair of warriors are busy doing their warrior thing. All in all, Frontline felt like a warrior anthem to me, and was a great video. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! This movie was created by RedEyeLobine for the Baron Soosdon's Starcraft 2 beta key contest. Black Temple is probably the finest raid movie I've ever seen about the Burning Crusade raid instance of the same name. Not only are some favorite fights represented, there are call-outs to some very well-known internet memes. Not to mention, it's sheer 8-bit genius. I'd ditch WoW to play this version in a heartbeat. I got obsessed with watching the warrior's rage bar, though. I don't know. Just, something about my inner power-gamer kept staring at the number. And the big rage climax at the end was not disappointing. I guess now we know who really wasn't prepared, emo-nelf-demon-guy! Interested in the wide world of machinima? Mangletooth is the entry from RedEyeLobine into Blizzard's Rise to Power contest. According to the author, the video was created pretty late in the game as a "last minute thing." The contest had a three minute time limit. If you put these factors together, then RedEyeLobine was dealing with quite a challenge. Nonetheless, I think he did a great job of pulling together a wonderful video with a pretty funny ending. Mangletooth himself is an old, classic World of Warcraft NPC. RedEyeLobine's video answers the question of what would happen when this old, captured, frustrated NPC grows tired of a two-expansion long imprisonment. The video has a few nice little gags along the way, and is pretty enjoyable for something RedEye says he whipped up quickly. When he posted Mangletooth, RedEyeLobine took the time to say that he's still working on completing Frontline and Dude What's My Class? He's been busy during exams, and hopes to get them finished. Given the ongoing quality of his work, I certainly look forward to those two releases. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! It's been awhile since we've been able to enjoy any of the "Belf Rap" genre, so I was actually pretty happy to see a new work up on Myndflame. 5Cap is a quick rap piece by Abandonation (one of the "Druid Boyz"), animated and put to video by Red Eye Lobine. We actually saw the preview piece back in April, but the final music video has been completed.5Cap has the same excellent graphics that we've come to expect from Red Eye. The machinimator really has an eye for detail, and astounding skills in making even Blood Elves feel "gritty" and "real." I would caution against over-exemplifying the main character as an all-powerful hero, but I do have to yield that kind of characterization is part of the hip-hop genre. Still, the undefeated nature of the video's protagonist felt a little unbelievable to me. Abandonation really shows off some lyrical skill here. I liked the words, flow, and tempo of the song. He was clearly able to master the incredibly fast pace, while still carefully pronouncing each word in a comprehensible way. My only criticism of the song is that it's sometimes hard to hear how well Abandonation is mastering the poetry, because his voice gets obfuscated by the music.Ultimately, 5Cap is pretty neat, and I hope this pair continues to grow their projects.
