If you dig Quentin Tarantino flicks, an eight movie, 10-disc Blu-ray boxed set is on the way that will probably pique your interest. Lionsgate and Miramax are collaborating on the Tarantino XX set, which captures 20 years of the filmmaker's career and includes Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Death Proof and Inglourious Basterds. Additionally, there's special collectible packaging and artwork (shown after the break, along with the press release and full list of specs) and the two extra discs are filled with five hours of all new bonus interviews, retrospectives and the like. It seems unlikely to answer the mystery of what was in Marcellus Wallace's briefcase, but it will be available November 20th with an MSRP of $119.99, although Amazon is currently listing it at $83.97.

Now that Netflix has made its plans to launch in the British Isles official, it's gotten busy signing content deals and the latest affiliation is with Lionsgate's UK arm. The deal makes Netflix the "exclusive subscription streaming service" in the UK and Ireland for the studios first-run movies, with upcoming titles like The Expendables 2, and the Dirty Dancing remake already on deck. The agreement also extends to catalog hits like Reservoir Dogs, 3:10 to Yuma and The Blair Witch Project, which should be available when the service launches early next year. Check the press release after the break for all the details, although there's still plenty of time to decide whether or not its worth your pounds, pence, or bank notes.

Ah yes, just the latest in an ever-growing succession of pitiful movie-to-game adaptations. There are exceptions -- Goldeneye, King Kong, and The Warriors come to mind -- but Reservoir Dogs is not one of them. What's most disappointing about Eidos and Volatile's misstep is that it wasn't developed under the time constraints of a current blockbuster tie-in license, but rather, it was an opportunity to pay homage to Tarantino's influential film. Fourteen years ago we would have expected a Reservoir Dogs game to be terrible, but now? C'mon guys, you gotta do better than this: Eurogamer (50/100) - "Tarantino's movie showed audiences just what could be achieved with no money but stacks of talent, while the game merely demonstrates what can be pulled off with current generation hardware and enough spare cash to snap up the rights to a cult movie." Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK (50/100) - "A bad idea executed only slightly better." [Oct 2006] IGN (30/100) - "At least you have the movie soundtrack to fall back on, but that isn't saying much." Update: Removed IGN (UK) review; replaced with IGN (US) review.[Also available on Xbox]

  • Printing error prompts UK recall of Xbox Reservoir Dogs

When a game gets pulled from shelves nowadays, "printing error" is not the reason that generally comes to mind. Incessant glitches, political furor, or abysmal sales (either by the title or its supported console) are the usual suspects when a game disappears, temporarily or otherwise, but this time Eidos recalled copies of Reservoir Dogs for the Xbox due to a supposed printing error. As GameseIndustry.biz hypothesizes, the problem stems from an 18 certificate logo not being printed on the Xbox disc. While the rating is still (presumably) present on the game's case, impressionable children who overlook the box's visible rating will not be deterred warned by the disc itself. Eidos has yet to confirm why it has recalled the game, nor has it said when the game will go back on sale. Reservoir Dogs was released this Tuesday in Europe. It is expected to be release in the U.S. late October. The game was recently banned (by way of classification refusal) in Australia.

This is an odd pick for the format considering the treatment of the character Mr. Blue, but Reservoir Dogs will be making the jump to Blu-ray at the same time the 15th anniversary edition is released October 24th. Director Quentin Tarantino's 1991 Sundance hit and cult favorite will be released by Lionsgate on standard DVD in the Gas Can Edition with loads of extras including 6.1 DTS-ES and 5.1 Dolby Surround audio tracks plus loads of featurettes, other than the soundtracks and requisite 1080p transfer the details of the Blu-ray release are unknown.
