Given the financial state of Awesomenauts publisher DTP, the fate of the game's promised downloadable content was somewhat nebulous. Thankfully, developer Ronimo has revealed that both the first patch and downloadable character are on the way. As you can see in the teaser image above, it's a lady, which makes her the first female Awesomenaut. We don't know anything officially, though she appears to be wielding some sort of energy ball, has a Medusa hairdo and is clearly riding a hoverboard.Furthermore, Awesomenauts' first update is coming down the pipe. The update will include balance fixes suggested by community members, though Ronimo adds that "so far the consensus appears that the game is already fairly well balanced, which is great." Indeed. Patch notes for the update should be coming next week. Finally, Ronimo states that the launch went smoothly, with over half a million games played since launch, though some users have reported connection errors. The studio is working to resolve the issue, which seems to be related to NAT settings, and advises affected players to reset their routers and consoles as a temporary fix.%Gallery-155265%

  • Awesomenauts review: Feel the magic, hear the roar

The theme song for Awesomenauts' Leon Chameleon goes like this: "Donnez-moi ton argent. Donnez-moi ton fromage. Je donne tu mon amour." My high school French teacher, Madame Rose, would probably take issue with the grammar, but it translates to "Give me your money. Give me your cheese. I give you my love."I mention this to make a point. While Awesomenauts was certainly inspired by the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre, it is by no means merely derivative. It cobbles together a strong identity of its own, accomplished in part by translating a familiar experience into a new format, and in part by cribbing from the memories of the 1980s to create a Saturday morning cartoon that never existed.%Gallery-141159%

The German publisher of Awesomenauts, dtp entertainment, filed for insolvency today, potentially stopping the game's XBLA and PSN launch on May 2. Developer Ronimo Games isn't sure what dtp's financial problems mean for Awesomenauts, but both companies are attempting to work out a resolution that gets the game published, IGN reports."Insolvency" is the European equivalent of bankruptcy and dtp now faces liquidating or reorganizing its assets, IGN writes. We've contacted Ronimo for comment about dtp's insolvency and the status of Awesomenauts.

Awesomenauts will be hitting PSN and XBLA in only one month. Ronimo has announced a May 1 release date for PSN in North America, with the worldwide PSN and XBLA releases to follow on May 2. Awesomenauts takes the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre -- think DOTA, League of Legends, Monday Night Combat -- and infuses it with 2D gameplay and nostalgic, 80s cartoon goodness. The game will be playable at PAX East next week at booth 754. Be aware that you might have to knock a few Joystiq staffers out of the way if you want to play. Check out a new trailer above and keep an eye out for an Awesomnauts preview later today.Update: Ronimo has informed Joystiq that Awesomenauts will be priced at $10.

More and more games these days opt for online multiplayer rather than the more personal and intimate "couch" variety. Ronimo Games, however, knows that people have roommates and siblings, and as such has built split-screen multi into Awesomenauts for up to three people/talented pets.

There's a reason Awesomenauts is called Awesomenauts, and not Goodenoughnauts. The 2D online battle arena game by Ronimo Games (Swords & Soldiers) was one of the surprise delights of Gamescom 2011. The title features a style of gameplay that's becoming familiar with the mainstream rise of games like League of Legends and Dota 2, but is a more arcade-style experience that is reminiscent of Monday Night Combat or Super Smash Bros. Expected to launch on XBLA and PSN, all the game's matches are 3v3 and allow for every combination of couch and online co-op. Players have a home base, with two turrets (towers) to protect in each lane of the several available maps available in the game. Most maps include two lanes and a fog of war "jungle" area where teammates are can pick up extra cash, bonuses and health packs. %Gallery-123964%

Have you seen Awesomenauts? Because it looks, well, sort of awesome. Developer Ronimo Games has released a new trailer for the game, highlighting Sheriff Lonestar, one of Awesomenauts' playable characters. Awesomenauts is a multiplayer online battle arena (or MOBA) title, similar to League of Legends, where each character has special abilities and attempts to break through enemy defenses. The big difference is that Awesomenauts takes the genre to 2D and adds a 1980s Saturday morning cartoon vibe. The game is scheduled to be released sometime this year on PSN and XBLA.

Calling it a "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena" (MOBA) title, Ronimo Games has announced its latest creation, Awesomenauts. Destined for XBLA and PSN release, the game is "inspired by '80s animated series" and, though details are slim, appears to be a Smash Bros. style brawler. Ronimo made its debut last year with the side-scrolling RTS title Swords & Soldiers for WiiWare, PSN and Steam. Awesomenauts will make its playable debut at E3 next month.%Gallery-123964%

Ronimo Games has released a new patch for Swords and Soldiers on the PlayStation Network, bringing PlayStation Move support to the cartoony and entertaining 2D RTS title. Now you can control your little Vikings and Aztecs just by waving your hand -- presuming that your hand is holding one of those Move wands with the glowing ball on top. The company also tells us that the PC version's release on Steam last week went well and, to celebrate, is making the game available for 20% off the usual price -- just $7.99 after the discount.

Not only is the WiiWare title Swords and Soldiers coming to PSN, but Ronimo Games has also commanded it to attack the PC. The 2D real-time strategy combat title will offer up all of the levels and features of the other versions, but will offer mouse control and include Steam Achievements as well. No release date nor pricing has been announced, but we're assured all of that is coming soon. We're going to call this one good news -- Swords and Soldiers was a good addition to the Wii's downloadable lineup, and it'll be nice to let a bigger audience get a good look at this original title. %Gallery-101501%

  • Swords & Soldiers coming to PSN this fall, published by Sony Online Entertainment

Sony Online Entertainment isn't all bad news today. The publisher announced that it's working with developer Ronimo Games to bring the cute side-scrolling RTS, Swords & Soldiers, to PSN. Originally released on WiiWare in June 2009, Swords & Soldiers allows players to control caricatured versions of Viking, Aztec or Chinese armies in both single-player missions and multiplayer battles. The PSN version will, in addition to lovely HD graphics, add online multiplayer. It also offers "up to 20 PlayStation Network trophies," so you'll be able to earn a more tangible reward for your time instead of merely throwing it away on "fun" -- or "Morefun," as the case may be. SOE plans to release Swords & Soldiers "early this Fall." The game's ESRB rating mentions a Windows PC release as well, which was not announced. We're checking with SOE.

Ronimo Games, developer of Wii sleeper de Blob, has announced that its next game -- the side-scrolling FPS Swords & Soldiers -- will hit Europe on May 15. The distinctly designed WiiWare release will cost 1000 points. "B-but what about us?," you ask. We're assuming you're in the US, so we have some good (albeit vague) news: Ronimo has also confirmed that game will hack-'n'-slash its way Stateside soon after the EU release. Here's hoping that "soon" means the following Monday, May 18.[Via GoNintendo]

How many games task players with defending "their freakishly large pepper?" Not enough, that's how many. Won't someone please think of the freakishly large pepper? We knew that Ronimo Games' Swords & Soldiers, the 2D side-scrolling strategy game, was very pretty, and very funny, but it wasn't until this latest trailer and its press release that we knew just how wonderfully weird it is.The press release names, among the strategy game's features, "historical inaccuracy" and "Morefun™," which is described as "Ronimo's patent pending version of fun that makes games interesting and enjoyable to play. Imagine playing a game, that at the same time is actually fun. Powerful stuff."Swords & Soldiers could be out as soon as this month, but we wouldn't bet our freakishly large peppers on it. It's already been delayed once, and that vague "early 2009" at the end of the trailer isn't promising.
