Rollercoaster crafters - rollercrafters, if you will - can mark March 3, 2015 in their diaries, 'cos that's when the sci-fi thrills of Screamride hurtle onto Xboxen stateside. It's priced $40 on Xbox One and $30 on Xbox 360, but sharing your coaster creations online is limited to Xbox One. Finally, Asian and Euro-rollercrafters can expect the game on March 5 and 6. Created by Thrillville and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 studio Frontier Developments, Screamride combines futuristic rollercoaster building with what resembles a dystopian crash test with living dummies. The game features 50 playable levels and 3 gameplay modes: Engineer, ScreamRider, and Demoliton Expert. It's not confirmed but going by the recent preview video, I'd guess ScreamRider's the mode in which you ride coasters and perform physics-defying tricks to make your passengers scream like crazy. As for Demoliton Expert, it's not a giant leap to suspect that's when you're flinging your riders and cars off the rails, with the aim of causing as much destruction and damage as possible. In short: create, destroy, ride and mass murder, the elite four of video games. [Image: Microsoft]

Screamride is aimed at giving players a blank canvas upon which they might construct and ride their ideal rollercoaster, but as this footage shows, the game's most interesting, bombastic moments come when a coaster goes off the rails and smashes through pieces of the background scenery. Screamride is a brand new game from Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and Thrillville studio Frontier Developments, and it's coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 in spring 2015. While details weren't discussed at Microsoft's Gamescom conference, going by the trailer and the studio's history we think we're looking at sci-fi rollercoaster construction sim, complete with cartoonish characters in weird futuristic outfits being flung around at crazy speeds. The goal of the game? To make people scream, apparently.

Pay a visit to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website and you'll find an application recently filed by Microsoft for something called "Screamride," though what that title might refer to remains a mystery. While the application states that the mark is to be used for an "on-line computer game," it's unclear whether that means a PC game, a game destined for one of the Xbox consoles or something else. Gamespot contacted Microsoft for further information, and were met with a boilerplate "no comment." "Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment," stated the company's representatives. Much as we'd like to blow open Microsoft's cover story with vital insight, there just isn't enough information currently available to deduce what exactly "Screamride" might be. We'll keep you updated as new information comes to light. [Image: Wikimedia Commons]
