Last week's talkcast was a star-studded affair, with special guests Ged Maheux of Iconfactory and Rob & Josh from Welcome to Macintosh; everyone had a great time recalling the fun and excitement of Macworld Expo. You can download the show from Talkshoe or subscribe in iTunes. Tonight, the show is back at 10 pm ET on Talkshoe; however, considering the big Apple news of the week, we're going to take up most of the show by playing back your audio get-well cards for Steve Jobs -- we got over 60 messages of support for Steve and I hope to play many of them tonight. Of course, we'll also make time for your live comments, questions and suggestions. If the audio playback and Talkshoe don't play well together, we'll move the show to Ustream or find another way to include your contributions. To participate on TalkShoe, you can use the browser-only client, or you can also use the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. For the web UI, just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm Sunday. To call in on regular phone or VOIP lines (take advantange of your free cellphone weekend minutes if you like): dial (724) 444-7444 and enter our talkcast ID, 45077 -- during the call, you can request to talk by keying in *-8. Talk with you then!

Our fearless co-lead Dave Caolo will be aboard the USS Talkcast this evening with me, and we'll be talking turkey -- cooking them, chasing them down, plucking them, and how to get the most stuffing in there. Oh wait, wait? Thanksgiving is over? Oh well then I guess we'll just be talking Mac and iPhone news as usual. On the menu: Black Friday and the deals we may or may not have been suckered into, new releases from Boxee (read the interview yet?) and uTorrent for the Mac, and since we've got to get our requisite iPhone talk in there, we'll hit on the Linux install, and the tough subject of App Store pricing. Join us, won't you? Do so on TalkShoe by using the shiny browser-only client; or you can also use the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client that we all know and love. For the web UI, just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm Sunday. You can also listen in on the Talkshoe page or call in on regular phone or VOIP lines: dial (724) 444-7444 and enter our talkcast ID, 45077 -- during the call, you can request to talk by keying in *-8. Talk with you then! Recording support for the TUAW Talkcast provided by Ecamm Network's CallRecorder for Skype.

Two weeks ago, the talkcast featured me, Robert & Dave tackling caller questions in a freewheeling "Ask TUAW" hour of fun. We didn't answer them all but we certainly tried our best. Subscribe in iTunes, or use a different feed reader. (Note: We were informed that the 'itpc://'-style link to the show was causing a spontaneous iTunes launch for users on Vista with Firefox 3, so we're using a Phobos-style link now. If you've seen unexpected iTunesage when browsing pages with itpc links on them, let us know.) After a week's break due to Talkshoe tech difficulties, we're back. Join us later tonight, Sunday October 5 at 10 pm ET for this week's show. Got dish, rumors or wishlists? Swing by and chime in. You can join the conversation on TalkShoe by using the shiny browser-only client; you can also use the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client that we all know and love. For the web UI, just click the "TalkShoe Web" button on our profile page at 10 pm tonight. You can also listen in on the Talkshoe page or call in on regular phone or VOIP lines: dial (724) 444-7444 and enter our talkcast ID, 45077. For those calling in without Talkshoe IDs, you can "request to talk" by dialing *8.

  • iPhone-optimized versions of LinkedIn, TalkShoe now up

We don't post about every website that comes up with an iPhone/iPod touch-optimized version -- if we did, we wouldn't have time for eating or sleeping -- but every now and then a couple of sites newly built for Mobile Safari rise above the pack. Today's launches for everyone's favorite "internet in your pants" browser include pro-social business networking site LinkedIn and collaborative calling tool TalkShoe.LinkedIn's new iPhone beta version (at m.linkedin.com) allows you to view a list of your recent network updates, see your own profile (lest you forget your vital details) and search through your contact list. No editing options and no click-to-call or click-to-send buttons in this early version, but having the streamlined view is quite nice.Meanwhile, over at TalkShoe (host site for the weekly TUAW live podcast) the team has released an iPhone version of the Talkshoe site at iphone.talkshoe.com. It does a nice job integrating the telephony component of the service with call selection and management. Using the new iPhone UI, you can quickly search for ongoing or upcoming calls, then single-click to call in and chat about your topic of choice. Naturally we have some suggestions. There'll be a TalkShoe call tonight at 8 pm ET featuring our friends Victor Cajiao of the Typical Mac User podcast and Adam Christianson of the Maccast to discuss the new iPhone-optimized site. Should be fun.via Macworld & iPhone Matters

The 4th edition of our new TUAW Talkcast went pretty well last night. We had a good turnout of readers joining in on the fun, and we all had a good time discussing things like imaginary iPhone feature updates, that quirky new Apple Keyboard and how well one can type on a glass display without buttons. We also fielded more questions from show participants such as Windows gaming on a Mac mini and how to truly delete images from iPhoto, and I must say: that question & answer segment is becoming one of my favorite parts of the show.We did have a few issues with audio quality, as I think Gizmo was misbehaving a little, but I tried cleaning up as best I could. There's only so much magic software can work on quirky audio, even in Mac OS X. Since we are still navigating the TalkShoe waters however, we appreciate your patience while trying to iron out the kinks, and we'll gladly accept any advice on how to improve audio quality (though we're aware of the basics, such as using a headset instead of built-in MacBook mics, etc.). We're also kicking around some ideas for a different day and time for the show in an effort to make it easier for more of you to join us. If you would prefer something other than 9:30 pm ET on Thursday nights, be sure to sound off in the comments. For now though, TUAW Talkcast #4 is available for download. It clocks in at just under 37 minutes and 33.7 MB. You can pick up the 'cast from our RSS & iTunes feeds, via direct download here, or via download and streaming over at Talkshoe.

If you want to text chat with us and other participants, you'll need to download and sign in with their java client as well. If you can't be with us tonight though, don't worry - as usual, we'll provide the recording for download and via our TUAW Podcast feed (RSS and iTunes) within a day or so.It should be another good show tonight, so we hope to see you all there!

If you joined us for our first live talkcast last week, you heard an earful about the iPhone experiences of our intrepid crew, and many of you were able to join in with your comments and questions via the magic of the Talkshoe platform. We had so much fun, we're doing it again this week. Join us Thursday evening at 9:30 pm ET for a half-hour or so of conversation about -- hmm, I dunno -- we'll come up with something -- with bloggers David Chartier, Scott McNulty, and Chris Ullrich. To participate, you'll need to sign up at Talkshoe ahead of time and (if you want to be able to join the text chat or ask live questions) download the Java client. If you aren't at your computer, you can still call in with any phone or VoIP client as long as you're registered at Talkshoe. If you can't be with us live, the recorded file should be available in our iTunes feed on Friday.

If you've listened to any of the TUAW podcasts, you already know what your friendly neighborhood bloggers sound like... but we have no idea what you sound like. That's about to change: announcing the first-ever live audio chatcast from TUAW, via the Talkshoe platform, tomorrow, Thursday 8/2, at 9:30 pm ET (0230 GMT). Our topic is "One Month of iPhone" and we'll be taking some of your questions and comments, audio or text, live during the half-hour show; we might even find the time to give away a couple of genuine TUAW souvenirs to some lucky participants.Since this is the first time we've done a live show, and since there are bound to be a few hiccups, we'd like to limit the audience to invited guests only for this outing. How to get invited? Simple -- go register for a Talkshoe.com account, download the client, and come back here to leave a comment letting us know you're coming. We'll send out an email with the show link on Thursday afternoon. You can listen in via the client or over a conventional/VoIP phone call once you have the show info.Looking forward to hearing from all of you soon!
