Welcome once again to Video IRL, where several of our editors talk about what they've been watching in their spare time. This month brings a mixed bag: While one of us dived into season one of Starz' series American Gods, another is obsessed with a quirky UK game show that will make the jump to America soon. Meanwhile we've given anime another chance, and last but not least, there's even some robot-enabled larceny.

Video reveals of Street Fighter's Akuma and Marvel Comics' Taskmaster as playable characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have popped up exclusively on IGN. Fans of the series will no doubt have spotted Akuma in a British retailer listing for February's big fighting game, and Taskmaster made an appearance in panels from what was rumored to be a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tie-in comic book. Rather than being unlocked out of the gate, players must earn 2000 PP for Akuma and 8000 PP for Taskmaster -- Eurogamer describes earning 2000 PP as "roughly equivalent to a single playthrough of Arcade Mode," adding that Capcom believes "most players" will unlock all secret characters "within a couple of hours." It is believed that two more characters will be revealed before MvC3 arrives on February 15 -- for now, you can see videos of Taskmaster and Akuma just after the break.

  • Rumor: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comic art reveals Galactus and Taskmaster [update]

Neither Capcom nor Marvel has yet to announce an official comic tie-in for forthcoming fighting game collaboration Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but a posting on ComicArtFans.com indicates that just such a product is on the way. The images seemingly reveal both Galactus and Taskmaster (aka "that guy who looks like Skeletor") as appearing in the game -- we already had Taskmaster on our leaked list last month, and it's possible that Galactus (the planet eater) is a boss character. The image gallery has since been removed, but Shoryuken has all the pertinent images hosted on its website. Also, we know we're supposed to suspend disbelief with the whole superhero thing, but the idea of Chris Redfield challenging the Hulk with a shotgun seems even more comical than his tree-trunk biceps. Update: The post above has been altered to reflect the anonymity of the images origins. Though it has been reported that comic artist Kevin Sharpe created the images, it is not clear that he did any of the work referred to above. [Image credit: Unknown]

  • Rumor: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster to include Mega Man, Frank West, and more

A source shared what they claim to be the full roster for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, containing no fewer than 18 characters who have yet to be announced by Capcom, in addition to a new "War Machine" look for Iron Man. The list includes characters like the Red Arremer, Mega Man (in Battle Network and classic styles), and Frank West/Chuck Greene (probably as alternate versions of the same character) on the Capcom end, and Ultron, Squirrel Girl, and Thanos from Marvel. The most random character on the list is probably Victor Delacroix from 2003's Chaos Legion. Though, of course, all of this new information is unconfirmed, it's worth noting that She-Hulk and Zero, both appearing in the list from our source, were announced after we received it. In addition, some of the characters, like Frank West and Soki, are believable because they were featured in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (like Zero) and thus are probably relatively easy to update for MvC3. The Mega Man character is likely also similar to the Mega Man Legends-style version found in Tatsunoko. It's possible some of the new characters are even based on Tatsunoko movesets -- Delacroix makes more sense if he's taking the place of the sword-wielding Karas or Tekkaman Blade, for example.
