  • Motorola's legendary RAZR flip phone is making a comeback (update: nope)

The year was 2004, and Motorola had just announced what was then an insanely thin flip phone, the RAZR V3. It was -- and still is -- a head-turner, and eventually over 130 million units were sold in total. Such were the glorious days of Motorola. Twelve years later, the now Lenovo-owned brand appears to be prepping a relaunch of this legendary model, according to its teaser video of a nostalgic walkthrough at a high school. "Flip back to the Razr days of yesteryear and get ready for the future." Well, our money's on an Android refresh of the RAZR flip phone, and we're already quite stoked about that. The big unveil will take place at Lenovo Tech World on June 9th, and we have a feeling that this new RAZR may overshadow the new Moto X devices that are also expected there. Update 6/5: Alas, it's not to be. Motorola tells The Guardian that it's not re-releasing the RAZR when Tech World kicks off on June 9th. The clip was ultimately a reminder of how Motorola changed the mobile world with its thin flip phone, rather than the hint of a full-scale revival. Your 2004 self is going to be so disappointed.

Waiting to see if Samsung can rekindle its smartphone sales streak with Galaxy S number seven? You won't be waiting long: media invites, as well as a tease-next-to-nothing teaser video, have both surfaced, with the most salient points being that the new Galaxy S will be revealed during the annual mobile flood of Mobile World Congress (in Barcelona, amigo), and that you can expect to sit through an hour of feature rundowns and poetic pontificating on February 21st. (Or, wait on a supercut of the most important parts.)

As we sit in the no man's land between holidays, let us take a moment to quietly contemplate what the actual eff is going on with the eye in this new Orphan Black teaser trailer. Will the Clone Club face some decidedly augmented foes? Is it a metaphor for a heightened sense of paranoia and distrust? Do the folks from Topside — who rose to some prominence this past season — have anything to do with it?

  • Befriend a bear or get killed by it in PS4-exclusive 'Wild'

When Michel Ancel, creator of Rayman, first demoed Wild, the PlayStation 4-exclusive game set in a lush Neolithic world of ancient tribes and animals, it was generally met with raves. After nearly a year, however, gamers actually want to know how it plays. At Sony's Paris Games Week event, Ancel replied in the best way possible: By showing you could ride a freaking bear. In Wild, you can also take control of animals and play as them, summon spirits and walk (or swim) around the vast open world. But before any bear-riding happens, you'll need to get savvy about your environment. As Ancel explained in his charming French accent, "For hours and hours at the beginning of the game, you will be killed by the bears."

One of the greatest challenges for any manned Mars mission isn't surviving the planet itself, but remaining mentally sound on the way there -- you don't want to freak out during a months-long space voyage. And it looks like the producers behind the movie adaptation of The Martian are well aware of this practical reality. They've posted a teaser clip showing how the fictional NASA crew copes with 10 days of isolation training meant to simulate the disconnection they'll likely experience during the journey. As you'll see below, some of them handle it better than others. A few are practically itching to go on the expedition, while others clearly... suffered a bit. Why does Aquaman have control over whales?

  • Samsung teases an August 13th event with a big, curvy Galaxy

That rumor of Samsung holding a phone event in August to beat Apple to the punch? At least some of it is true. The Korean tech giant has announced a second Galaxy Unpacked event that will take place in New York City on August 13th. It's not saying much about what's in store, but the curvy, imposing profile in the teaser image hints at the upsized Galaxy S6 Edge+ that we've seen in leaks -- and of course, the Galaxy Note line is nearly due for its yearly refresh. Whatever shows up, you can be sure that we'll be there to give you a closer look.

A young woman with copper hair, thick-framed glasses and a bright blue trench coat sneaks around the edges of shadowy mansion. She's searching for clues -- something about a nefarious man, a ghost ship and science experiments gone awry. Behind a bookcase, shrouded in darkness, lies a secret surveillance lair lit up with live feeds from all around a small, mysterious town. Suddenly, one of the screens flips to present a tiny, trench-coated silhouette in front of a bank of surveillance equipment, and a hulking figure creeping up from behind. This is the free, playable demo for Jenny LeClue, a dark-humor adventure game inspired by choose-your-own adventure stories with roots in sci-fi, horror and mystery. It's out now for iOS, PC, Mac and Linux, and according to creator Joe Russ, it's going over extremely well with early players, some of whom assuredly backed the game's $105,800 Kickstarter.

  • Here's a sideways glance at Samsung's Galaxy S6

Now we know there's some metal in there, but Samsung's recent video teaser didn't really give us a clear look at its new Galaxy phone. Fortunately, T-Mobile's got you covered, even if it's not quite the whole deal. While promoting a sign-up page for interested parties, the carrier also threw in the above image to whet appetites. So now we're confused: another teaser video suggested a more typically screened device without the curved display of the Galaxy Edge, but maybe Samsung's got two S6 devices. Or maybe it'll only have the one curved side, unlike early reports. Who knows? (Aside from the Samsung execs and, most likely, T-Mobile CEO John Legere.) We've reached peak teaser levels now, so barring an incidental complete leak, you'll have to wait seven more days for all the answers, curved edges and all.

  • Samsung teases that the 'Next Galaxy' is borderless and metal

    02.21.2015

Samsung's teasers for the Galaxy S6 (or whatever it might be named) are getting decidedly less cryptic. The company's latest hype video for the new smartphone promises that "borders will disappear" and "metals will flow" -- if there was any doubt that the next Galaxy is ditching the S5's utilitarian plastic design, it's gone. There are further hints of a curved (and reflection-free) display, too. There's a good chance that the phone won't quite live up to this teaser's breathless prose, but one thing's increasingly certain: Samsung doesn't want its upcoming flagship device to suffer the ignominious fate of its predecessor.

Curved or straight? Samsung's Galaxy S6 or whatever-its-called could be both, as the latest teaser shows a straight edged phone, when another from last week flaunted some curves. It boasted about the model being "crafted from the beautiful things I see around me," possibly a reference to the use of metal in the body rather than plastic. Who knows? It's smartphone PR after all, not Chekhov. Curved or straight, we expect that it'll be Exynos-powered, nearly bloatware-free and possibly packing a smaller battery. We'll find out next week at Mobile World Conference 2015, so try not to lose any sleep.

  • Samsung event teaser hints that 'what's next' is a curvy Galaxy

    02.02.2015

Samsung's pre-announcement clues are sometimes cryptic at best, but it's not being especially subtle this time around. Hours after Tinhte first revealed that something was up, Samsung has posted a "what's next" teaser for a March 1st Galaxy Unpacked event in Barcelona whose centerpiece is the shadowy profile of a curvy-looking device. While it's not perfectly clear what this image represents, it bears an uncanny resemblance to the right-hand side of the Galaxy Note Edge, where the smartphone's signature curved display tapers off. Seeing as how Samsung isn't about to re-unveil a phone, our money's on the teaser alluding to a Galaxy S6 with an Edge-like screen, whether it's optional (as SamMobile rumored earlier) or standard issue. Whatever shows up, it's pretty obvious that March 1st is going to be a very busy day in the Android world -- we'll be sure to attend those events and let you know what Samsung, HTC and others have to offer.

What does it take to make a new MMO that can gain traction in this day and age? In a new video dev diary, the Echo of Soul team says that it's spent over four years and 110 developers to pursue a goal of "uniting MMORPGs and mobile games" while making it appealing for both an Eastern and a Western audience. The video goes on to talk up Echo of Soul's Asian launch; it claims the game is "constantly ranked among the top 10 Korean games" since then. Aeria Games Chief Manager Nara Kang concurred that the reception has been strong: "Players feel that EoS is the best MMORPG in a very long time." You can watch the full dev diary after the break!

Blade & Soul will soon have a new 24-person raid boss to fight, and if a teased poster is any indication, the big bad doesn't look happy at being at the bottom of a pile-on. However, it does look competent, as evidenced by all of the dead bodies at its feet. MMO Culture reports that the raid will be tailored to include the upcoming Warlock class, although there are no other details or specifics to absorb at the moment. Until we know more, content yourself to gaze into the eyes of madness after the break and know that this beast holds the key to all of your loot dreams... at least if you're in Korea. The rest of us are still impatiently awaiting the game in the West.

Guild Wars 2 is gearing up for the finale of its Living World Season 2 story arc. "With Glint's egg still missing, Tyria's heroes must rally their allies and prepare the pact fleet as they begin to launch an assault against Mordremoth," ArenaNet says in its latest press blurb. Players will ultimately face "a decisive moment" during the finale, which is probably why ANet dubbed the update "Point of No Return." Be sure and catch the teaser clip just beyond the break.

"At launch, Echo of Soul will include everything an MMO player could want," says Global Development Project Manager Junhyung Jung. "With 68 areas and over 1,600 quests, EOS offers far more initial content than other games." Them's fightin' words, Mr. Jung. But also playin' words, too. The above quote comes from a new Echo of Soul video dev diary, in which Jung makes a case for why this title should have broad appeal. He runs down the features list, including PvE content, PvP battles, and solo and team challenges. The level cap is also mentioned as where the game "truly begins." For those fans, we present Echo of Soul's story trailer, which gives an overview of the conflict and struggles that players will be facing in this game. EA revealed this weekend at The Game Awards that it will publish the next game from Josef Fares, the writer and director of Starbreeze Studios' Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Fares founded a new independent studio, Hazelight, which happens to include four other designers that worked on Brothers as well. Per the studio's website, the as-yet-unannounced game's team includes Claes Engdal (Art Director), Emil Claeson (Lead Animator), Anders Olsson (Lead Programmer) and Filip Coulianos (Lead Level Designer), each having served similar roles on Brothers. What's more, Executive VP of EA Studios Patrick Soderlund said the publisher "shared some space at our DICE studio in Stockholm so [Hazelight] could get to work right away" on the game. No platforms or release dates are known about the studio's upcoming game, though you can head past the break to check out Hazelight's teaser from this past weekend's awards ceremony. Love Korean MMOs? Well, there's about to be a new one for western audiences in 2015: Echo of Soul. Aeria Games announced today that plans are in the works to take this free-to-play fantasy MMO and bring it to North America and Europe early next year. The hook for Echo of Soul is a "unique soul-collecting system" that results in a rich layer of skill customization for players. The MMO has a solid heritage behind it, as it was created by "key members" of Lineage II's dev team. Beta sign-ups are now live on the official site, and you can watch Echo of Soul's teaser trailer after the jump. [Source: Aeria Games press release]
