Netflix has revived The Killing for one final six-episode season, but what if you're not sure about binge watching the first three (already on Netflix, of course) to get ready? A video posted by the service gives you a good peek at some of the characters and vibe of the story so far, all in less than two minutes. The Killing season four comes to Netflix August 1st (at 3AM ET, as usual), so you've still got plenty of time to blast through the existing seasons first. Showrunner Veena Sud called Netflix an "ideal platform" for the show because you can watch it all at once and we agree -- the slow burn of the first couple of seasons isn't nearly as frustrating when it's over in days instead of months or years. She also said moving to the streaming service allowed for longer episodes (55 - 59 minutes without commercials, as opposed to 43 minutes for the other seasons), and notes that this story will pick up where the events of season three left off.

Netflix already pulled whodunnit The Killing from the scrap pile once, working out a deal with AMC to produce a third season for airing and subsequent streaming, and now it's done it again. The Killing will see a fourth and final six-episode season (when is still up in the air), produced by Fox, which Netflix will stream exclusively in the areas where it provides service. This, along with continued hints of more Arrested Development in the works will probably get fans of other canceled/about-to-be canceled series excited, although we'll have to wait and see how many refurb projects Netflix is ready to put next to its original content.

  • Netflix snags global streaming rights for The Killing season 3, after it airs in the US

AMC's detective series The Killing had an inconsistent first couple of seasons, but it is surprisingly returning for a third. Netflix may have assisted that, by sewing up exclusive rights to stream the show worldwide, with the third season coming to US and Canadian subscribers three months after its cable TV finale. The first two seasons are already on the US service and will appear in other regions over the next few months. We've seen Netflix use its analytics to decide to air a brand new show (House of Cards) and bring back one that's been cancelled (Arrested Development), but this time it's picking up a currently airing series that probably plays better in "binge viewing" format than week-by-week. Whatever the case, even with premium channels and streaming services chasing original content, the odds of your favorite niche program getting its six seasons and a movie appear to have never been better.
