  • U.S. realm downtime for patch 5.4 Tuesday

Tomorrow -- that's Tuesday, September 10th -- U.S. realms will be going offline for maintenance at midnight, Pacific time and are scheduled to come back up by 10 in the morning. This downtime is, of course, for the launch of patch 5.4: so by tomorrow afternoon the Siege of Orgrimmar should be upon us. We think the schedule is on the optimistic side for a patch roll-out, but here at WoW Insider, we'll keep our fingers crossed for servers popping back online quickly so we can all get back to gaming. Not sure what all the fuss is about? Blizzard posted a roundup of patch 5.4 info to catch you up on all the news, but if you need to go more basic than that you can also check our rookie writeup on what WoW patches are.

Realm maintenance has been extended until 2:00 p.m. PST 1:00 p.m. PST today (4 p.m. EST, 3 p.m. CST). It's the week after a major content patch, so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise to anyone. We recommend catching an episode of Community on Hulu while waiting for the realms to come back up. Actually, we don't -- I do. Hopefully, this makes up for the terrible faux pas I made in The Queue today. We'll update this post with any additional information we come across. Otherwise, just hang tight! Update: 1:00 p.m. PST -- Maintenance extended until 2 p.m. PST. Extended Regularly Scheduled Maintenance 10:10 a.m. PST - We will be extending the regularly scheduled maintenance time in order to perform additional database checks. We anticipate all realms will be available at approximately 1:00 p.m. PST. source

  • Launcher and WoW are down, it's not just you

No folks, it's not just you. WoW is undergoing maintenance today, as is usual. Maintenance has been going on since 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST and will last until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. The only difference is, this time around, the launcher isn't even working, which is causing a lot of people to wonder if something is wrong with their internet configurations (thanks, no doubt, due to the lovely maintenance box). But be confident that nothing is probably wrong, especially if you're reading this post. The patching server just seems to be down. Everything will be up again soon. Blizzard's maintenance announcement is as follows: Our regularly scheduled Tuesday maintenance will begin at 03:00 a.m. PST, January, 11 and end at approximately 11:00 a.m. PST. During this time all realms will be down and not accessible for play. Thank you for your patience

Today (well, today if you're reading this on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, which you probably are), there will be some surprise downtime in order to correct a technical issue. There's no indication of a client patch or anything like that, just some good ol' standard downtime from 8 a.m. EST / 5 a.m. PST until 2 p.m. EST / 11 a.m. PST. If things get extended, we'll let you know about it. The full statement by Blizzard is as follows: Blizzard -- Maintenance We will be performing urgent maintenance on all realms to resolve a technical issue. Maintenance will begin at 5:00 AM and conclude at approximately 11:00 AM PST. Thank you for your patience. source Instead of the normal gnome doing her maintenance thing, I've included a video of some of my favorite music out there: Vince Guaraldi's O Tannenbaum, visualized to A Charlie Brown Christmas, of course.

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. While we're all holding our breaths waiting for Dec. 7, don't think things have slowed down, either. The elemental invasion event is in full swing, with a new phase every week. Before you know it, we'll be seeing Patch 4.0.3 and a whole new world (of Warcraft) laid out before us. Get those last-minute achievements done now, folks, it'll be here before you know it. For now, though, we have a few weeks, and Tuesday morning is as good a time as any to stand back and take stock of what's going in the game we all love. We have the usual roundup of hot news and useful guides straight ahead.

  • Servers are coming back up [Updated]

Blizzard has announced that the realms that are not down for the entire day are down for an additional two hours. They expect realms to be up at 4 p.m. EDT (1 p.m. PDT). This means that you will have less time to level up a character for the Server Maintenance Party we're having tonight. But that's OK because all levels are welcome. We'll update this post with any more server maintenance news. Update: Servers are up or on their way -- except the ones that are down until at least midnight of course.

    06.22.2010

It looks like the long wait may be over, as US servers appear to be slowly coming back online from a lengthy extended maintenance. For now the list of servers up is small, and there's been no official confirmation from Blizzard as to whether or not the downtime is over -- however most servers that are up and live are experiencing queues in the thousands and are locked from further character creation at this time. We'll update this post when the servers are officially back up and running -- until then, why not check out the Tuesday Morning Post for reading material you may have missed? Update #1: The official Warcraft Twitter just noted the following: #WoWInfo - We are continuing the process of marking realms live. We will provide an update on our progress at approximately 7:00PM PDT. Also, all servers that are currently live appear to be locked. Update #2, 7:21PDT: The official Warcraft Twitter just noted the following: #WoWInfo - We anticipate all remaining realms will be brought online within the next hour and appreciate your ongoing patience.

Here's the full announcement: Ralvorinn We'll be performing maintenance on our authentication services this evening which may impact the ability to log in for some players. 12.08.2009

Not that this should be unexpected, but maintenance has been extended today by at least one hour. There is no indication as to what's caused the downtime to linger on longer than it has to. We'll keep this post updated and time-stamped with the latest news. You'll only need to look here to know. 6:45 p.m. EST: There is still no ETA on the fix. Downtime will continue for the time being. Another update will be provided in an hour. In addition to the game being down, the forums are down, the Blizzard store appears to be having issues, and the official Warcraft website is loading extremely slow. WoW.com is handling the excess traffic fine, thankfully, so we should be able to continue to provide you with any updates we get. 7:05 p.m. EST: We are getting reports that some realms are up. Your mileage may vary. Older updates are after the break.

  • Maintenance for Tuesday November 10th

    11.09.2009

There will be a round of realm maintenance for everyone tomorrow, Tuesday November 10th from 5:00 a.m. PST / 8:00 a.m. EST until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST. This is more or less the "normal" maintenance time we've all come to know and love. The downtime tomorrow should not be taken as any indication that patch 3.3 is dropping; that event is still a couple weeks away at best. The patch tonight was a "tools patch," that while temporarely screwed things up for the majority of people, wasn't anything that changed things significantly -- at least as far as we all can tell. If anything else develops of this downtime, we'll be sure to let you know.

    11.02.2009

All realms will be undergoing maintenance Tuesday November 3rd from 3:00 a.m. PDT until at least 11:00 a.m. PDT. This is more or less the standard maintenance that we've all come to know and love so much. So hopefully this won't come as a surprise for folks. We need to be diligent here and note that there is absolutely no indication patch 3.3 will drop tomorrow. That event is still at least a few weeks off from all indications coming into WoW.com HQ. Enjoy the downtime if you're not working -- go get some sun, eat a cheeseburger, do something off the game. It'll be leveling up in real life! Fun!

  • Maintenance for Tuesday September 8th

    09.07.2009

We've had some serious maintenance in the last few weeks, and it looks like they've come to an end. The extended maintenance that's been going on has been to fix the much hyped "Additional instances cannot be launched" error, and by all accounts the bug has been fixed. But let's not kid ourselves, there'll be at least a dozen comments claiming differently after this post goes up. But it's all good, because eventually the cross-server instances are going to take care of that problem entirely. The maintenance tomorrow will run from 3:00 a.m. PDT / 6:00 a.m. EDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT / 2:00 p.m. EDT.Since WoW will be down, I recommend checking out Champions Online if you haven't already. It's a nice comic book MMO that has some real potential. One thing I really enjoy about it is that its graphics are not super amazing -- they look like comic book graphics. In that sense, it's a very immersive graphical experience. Kyle Horner of our sister site Massively wrote the WoW player's Guide to Champions Online. Check it out for more information about a nice game you can play during WoW's downtime.

  • Tuesday Morning Post: Remains of the BlizzCon edition

So BlizzCon 2009 is behind us by over a week now, but don't think its presence isn't still felt. This past week alone we had tons of wrap-up analysis and a few freshly transcribed interviews. We've dug a few new nuggets of news and impressions out our coverage too. Here's something for you: The new Battle.net will allow in game cross faction communication. We also discussed the BlizzCon team's first impressions of the new races. And don't forget our footage of the ultimate raidkiller: Hogger.Of course, in all this BlizzCon and Cataclysm tizzy, don't think we've forgotten about Patch 3.2.2 either. We got some pretty juicy news about that as well. Luckily, you'll have plenty of time to read up on it, since we got a pretty huge chunk of maintenance this morning. Let's take a look at some of the biggest stories from the past 7 days:

  • Maintenance for Thursday August 6th

    08.06.2009

According to the in-game announcement, there will be two hours of maintenance tomorrow August 6th on all realms. The maintenance announcement has changed throughout the evening, but seems to have settled on this downtime. The downtime will happen from 5:00 a.m. PDT / 8:00 a.m. EDT and last until 7:00 a.m. PDT / 10:00 a.m. EDT. This of course assumes that there'll be no extended super-fracken-duper maintenance put on top of that. And we know just how much Blizzard loves to increase their maintenance periods. If there is you'll hear it here. While the maintenance is going on, you can check out WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.2 and read up on all the things you missed, or think you missed. There is also the beginnings of a list of bug fixes; a list that's sure to grow over the coming days.

    07.20.2009

According to the in-game announcement there will be downtime for tomorrow, Tuesday July 21st. Tuesday also marks one month before BlizzCon 2009, where we're expecting to hear lots of major announcements from Blizzard. Something cataclysmic, hopefully. The downtime will be happening from 5:00 a.m. PDT / 8:00 a.m. EDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT / 1:00 p.m. EDT. Unlike previous weeks, there are no additional "special" battlegroups that are being taken offline for an extended period. If there are unexpected going ons with this maintenance, you'll see additional information posted here. And for those of you wondering, we're not expecting Patch 3.2 to drop just yet.Pic for this article is unrelated, but I wanted an excuse all day to use it – and now seemed like the right opportunity.

  • Maintenance for select realms tomorrow

    07.08.2009

Maintenance came and went today, and many people were initially pleasantly surprised to see their realm up early. However this quickly became a thing of disappointment as they found the instance servers were laggier than normal, and the realms themselves were rather unstable. While there were a series of quick restarts to correct many of the problems, several issues still existed. And of course another maintenance period has gone by without any fix to the dreaded "Additional instances cannot be launched, please try again later," error. Those words are nearly burned into my monitor now.Tomorrow morning from 5:00 a.m. PDT / 8:00 a.m. EDT until 8:00 a.m. PDT / 11:00 a.m. EDT the following realms after the break will be down for additional maintenance and hardware upgrades. These short downtimes usually mean that nothing too special is happening, but in case there's a cataclysmic event we'll be sure to let you know. (See what I did thar?)The list of affected realms after the break!

Once again, we have maintenance off the port bow. You'd almost think this is a weekly scheduled thing, eh? This week, though, is one of those special extended maintenance weeks, with servers down from 3 AM to 11 AM Pacific. No, despite the extended maintenance, we aren't expecting patch 3.2 yet. In addition, other servers will be down an extra 2 hours starting at 1 AM Pacific time. We have the full list of said servers after the break, and it's actually a somewhat long one.

Maintenance, you say? Unheard of! After all, what is wrong with a Paladin standing upright while riding her horse? Or what's wrong with constant errors telling intrepid adventurers additional instances cannot be launched?Well, okay. Something might be wrong with those things. Hopefully tomorrow's maintenance will bring fixes to them. But more importantly based on all account it'll be bringing patch 3.1.3 with it as well.Maintenance will last from 3:00 a.m. PDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT. Unless, of course, you on one of the few dozen realms listed after the break. For those special realms, maintenance will last from 12:01 a.m. PDT until 12:01 p.m. PDT. Why is it starting at the :01? Because Blizzard wants you to have an extra minute to complete raids tonight. That's how much they care. And you know what? So do I... (Click it... I dare you.)The full list of realms under the extended maintenance after the break.

    04.27.2009

Patch 3.1.1a, which we previously covered last week, will be coming during tomorrow's extended maintenance. This is according to a small update Crygil gave this evening. While we don't have the full patch notes yet, Patch 3.1.1a will just correct small issues that cannot be hot-fixed into the game. Notably, the tooltip to the Paladin's Exorcism ability will be updated to reflect that it cannot be used on players.Realms will be down from 3:00 a.m. PDT / 6:00 a.m. EDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT / 2:00 p.m. EDT. We'll let you know when they're up, and if there will be any additional extended maintenance.
