Motorola's C51 and SBV5400 Connected Cordless Phone Systems
Motorola also announced today a new family of connected cordless phone systems consisting of the C51 and SBV5400. These are expandable systems providing access to landline, Voice-over-IP calling, cellular service, home intercom, live streaming video, shared family phone books, high-speed internet, and "push-to-talk-over-instant messaging" which takes advantage of the voice capabilities of a "supported Instant Messaging program." Moto is making a big deal over the handsets' "Connect To" button which sounds a whole lot like a regular ol' "menu" key which gives access to all the ways your system can communicate. The C51 handset operates in WiFi friendly the 5.8GHz frequency and seems to ship with your choice of a base stations for either landline or digital (presumably VoiP) phone service -- not both, but we're not 100 percent on that, mkay? The SBV5400 is a voice-enabled cable modem which also doubles as a base station for the C51. We'll slap up the pics as soon as we get 'em to hopefully clear things up a bit.
