WRUP: The strange purgatory of Final Fantasy XIV edition

In my mind, we are fighting for Eorzea again.

Lately I've been thinking about Final Fantasy XIV. All right, that's not really unusual, but it hasn't been in my usual capacity of thinking about the game's future. No, I've been thinking that it's been too long since I played the game, that I should log in and level Lancer or Culinarian a bit -- that sort of thing. It's missing a game that's gone, except it's not gone, it's just on pause for the moment.

Needless to say, I'm happy that it's February and I'll be getting a chance to jump into the beta soon. You know I'll be rocking a Highlander lady.

I realize that some of you may have no idea what in the world half of those terms referred to, so to assuage you, here's a new installment of WRUP, complete with the usual Massively weekend plans. And you can even leave your weekend plans in the comments, too! It's a miracle of science.

@PsykopigAU: Now that I am back in the country I will be catching up on my sweet Star Wars: The Old Republic! Oh how I have missed thee!

Eliot Lefebvre, Columnist Extraordinaire and Senior Contributing Editor

@Eliot_Lefebvre: I've been having a lot of fun with The Secret World, far more than I had expected, so I'll still be playing that. (Investigation missions are about as I'd pictured them, but there's a lot of clever and good stuff in there.) I'll also be ducking into Star Wars: The Old Republic and possibly playing around with the new daily achievement system for Guild Wars 2. Oh, and I have about a million single-player games to finish.

Elisabeth Cardy, Guild Wars 2 Columnist and Contributing Editor

@elixabethclaire: This will be a weekend all about games! I picked up Path of Exile, because why on Earth would you not? So I'll be tooling around in that a bit. With the new patch having fixed Fractals disconnects and the way leveling is handled in there, I'll be doing some sweet sweet runs in Guild Wars 2 (and pushing to get my Guardian a little closer to 80).

I'll also be watching the Super Bowl, which totally counts as gaming related. I'll be playing who-should-I-root-for all of Sunday morning.

Jasmine Hruschak, Multimedia Contributor

@irljasmine: I'm spending my last weekend on the road and under the tyrannical reign of Laptop. I've upgraded to internet that doesn't take a hike whenever the mood strikes, so I'll be dabbling in the browser-based MMO world. My Crystal Saga sprite will be slaying monsters in the browser tab right next to my Gmail. I've also turned all of my World of Warcraft settings down as low as possible in a desperate attempt to collect a few valor points this weekend. 5fps is enough for LFR, right? Right?!

Jef Reahard, Managing Editor and Columnist Extraordinaire

@jefreahard: Euro Truck Simulator 2. Outside of that I might finish my Shadowknight epic in EverQuest II and continue messing around with DC Universe Online's new housing stuff.

Justin Olivetti, Columnist Extraordinaire and Senior Contributing Editor

@Sypster: Honestly? I don't know. Lord of the Rings Online is taking up a huge share of my time lately as I'm leveling up a new Minstrel through the 20s. I already did the Star Trek Online 3rd anniversary event, so perhaps I'll scuttle over to Guild Wars 2 and take a looky-loo at the Living Story thingie that's going on.

Mike Foster, Contributing Editor

@MikedotFoster: This is a hectic weekend so gaming will be light, but I'll probably be playing a bit of Firefall, some World of Warcraft and just a touch of Dishonored. It's all about diversity!

Richie Procopio, Multimedia Contributor

@RichieProcopio: This weekend I'll be juggling a veritable cornucopia of games. I won't be resting on my laurels in Guild Wars 2; I'll be earning them. I'm also digging Path of Exile and getting lost in its elaborate skill tree. Finally, I've installed Wizardry Online and I hope it gives me that taste of old school nostalgia that I'm looking for.

Terilynn Shull, Star Trek Online Columnist

@terilynns: I think it's safe to say that I will be in Star Trek Online for pretty much most of the weekend. My new computer has given me a new appreciation for the game (I really never knew it was so beautiful), and not only do I need to run my alts through the new third anniversary mission to get the new ship, I want to run around to areas I haven't been to in awhile just so I can look at them with my fancy-schmancy new graphics card! Seriously, I cried when I fired this thing up. I'm such a nerd. A proud nerd, but a nerd nonetheless.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
